how I feel about scrambling Crib Goch | Snow hike in the Peak District
Переглядів 25914 днів тому
Come join me for a snow hike in the Peak District and chat about winter ending, scrambling crib goch, and getting fit for hiking 🥾❄️ If you're planning on hiking in the snow you should check out this video about what to pack: ua-cam.com/video/sEO3eI2f2qc/v-deo.html Since filming this we've planned a trip to Eryri (Snowdonia) early Feb, so if we get the weather for it we'll be trying to scramble...
What I pack for a day hike in winter

It’s -1° outside so what better time to show you what I take in my hiking bag when its cold? If you want to learn how to find good hiking trails you should check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/o_qUXsKLp3s/v-deo.html I thought I'd go through what I pack for a day hike in the colder months because there are some fun extras in there that you don't normally see in what's in my hiking bag videos! ...
How to leave no trace when hiking & camping (it’s not just about littering)
Переглядів 579Місяць тому
Happy new year pals, I hope you added 'go hiking' and 'get outside more' to your 2025 new years resolutions!! I'm here to talk you through the 7 principles of 'leave no trace', a set of ethics and guidelines to encourage people hiking, paddle boarding, backpacking, camping, and doing other generally outdoorsy things, to look after the nature they love to explore. Some of it is general hiking et...
Wouldn't use Alltrails. Too much random user trails that are dangerous. I'd use HiiKER. All verified routes and actual maps.
I never have any issues with it but I always read the reviews + check the recent photos etc! Definitely wouldn’t take a route without checking them first
@fareweld yeah that's good advice for AT. Still, the lack of good mapping is a deal breaker. OS maps are key for UK hiking.
Damn I've done this so many times ahah, I had no idea
It's so fun right?! Who knew there was a word for clambering up a mountain
I didn't know this had a name! I love this!x
Honestly there are so many words in the hiking/climbing world I can't even keep track myself! Hiking, walking, bouldering, climbing, trekking, scrambling.. the list goes on 🥲
So nicely elaborated my friend! Helpful episode!
Thank you pal!
As someone who just got into hiking the beginning of this year (living in Québec), I'm trying to get used to AllTrails before moving to something else. I heavily rely on most recent reviews and pictures. I still find it difficult to know what my level is, which sometimes gets me frustrated 😅
It definitely takes some getting used to, but the reviews/photos are so useful! Honestly I take each trail as it comes difficulty wise, as long as it’s not super technical they can usually be made easier with lots of breaks! Hope you find some good trails 🤞
Please let me know how you find your hiking trails! Also, I somehow randomly became an AllTrails ambassador the day after making this video and have an affiliate link to share (how crazy is that?!). You can get 30% off your AllTrails subscription AND support the channel via this link: alltrails.pxf.io/c/5880165/2026814/22353?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.alltrails.com%2Fplus%3Fk%3Dfareweld30 P.S shout out to my eczema for being the main character of this video 🙃
Your content is exactly the kind of inspiration I love to see! Subscribed 🙂
That is so nice to hear, thank you so much!! 😊
Helpful info thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, thanks much
You're welcome, thanks for watching :)
Since filming this we've planned a trip to Eryri (Snowdonia) early Feb, so if we get the weather for it we'll be scrambling Crib Goch's knife edge in winter! Wish us luck and give me advice, please and thank you 😳
One piece of advice....don't call it Knife Ridge. It's just called Crib Goch, and you'll openeing yourself up to a catalogue of comments if you start calling it knife ridge with capital letters
@@MyOutdoorsUK Hahaha oh no! Think it was a bit of a slip of the tongue/fingers because I meant crib goch’s knife edge - ridge is already in the name itself 😂
EL MENTIONED!!! you could totally tackle crib, the ridge it's self has no incline really, just got to be careful with your feet! You can smash it!
ahhh this is reassuring thank you!! the only issue is we’re planning on going early feb but will definitely be bailing if the weather’s bad 😮💨
The MTB run was so real, this is literally James on EVERY single trail🥲😂
Honestly did they even go on the hike if they didn't bring up mtb???
This was magical
thank you so much!!!
I've just recently started hiking to get to climbing locations, and now that we are getting one of the coldest winters to date this video definitely helped me out. Will definitely use a bunch of your tips here.
I'm so glad you found it helpful! You'll have to start vlogging your climbs
Hello my new friend! Found you on Ervenslens comment section! Love your channel. Left a sub. Take care!
@@TrailStrider909 Hey, thank you so much!!
@ Anytime full support my friend! 🤗🤗🤗
Absolutely gorgeous winter atmosphere my friend! Music is brilliant!
Thank you! Can never beat skyrim music for a snowy hike
@@fareweld so true, I used to be an adventure like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee. 😂
time to join the college of winterhold
@@popinson914 i’m more of a thieves guild kinda guy 😮💨
TAMPONS! Did I win? I bet I won.
To be fair probably a good thing to bring for first aid purposes even if you don’t use them yourself!
@@fareweld See. Told you I won. 😎
Love hiking but have only ever tackled a trek in DM's with a tiny rucksack 😬 Definitely time to invest in some more bits - am taking notes!
Oh wow, that’s an extra feat in itself!!! I suppose docs that are well broken in are probably surprisingly good to be fair, but some good waterproof hiking boots will change the game 😮💨 p.s love your photography stuff dude, thanks so much for watching! 🫶
Also would totally recommend Quechua spices from decathlon, they're chained and stretch over your shoes like the ones you have!! They don't fall off either hehe:) x
Ah perfect!! Tysm, I’ll definitely be grabbing some soon 🫶
I always take a small gas stove for making coffee and sometimes food. Yes it's not essential on a day hike, and some say just take a flask as your already carrying water. But to me it just adds to the sense of adventure
Oooh yes I love this. I just got myself a camping stove recently and felt like I couldn’t justify bringing it out with me as it wouldn’t be worth the bag space, but you can’t beat a brew with a view! Definitely bringing one next time. ☕️
Yessss!! Love it!
Thank you!! (Also more amber0utside youtube content pls)
Just for anyone who cycles this is completely transferable kit, some of the clothing would need to be cycling specific but otherwise it's exactly what i take when out on the bike for longer trips into remote areas.
That is so interesting, I hadn't even thought about this stuff being useful for other outdoor hobbies!! I'm gonna have to try bikepacking one day
@ happy to advise if you need it, i've done it a few times!
I’ll definitely take you up on this when I get the courage
Please let me know if my winter hiking gear list is over the top or if you'd add more! I need to justify bringing everything but the kitchen sink with me
Better to be prepared always!
Thank you ❤️
Super advice and a good view on leave no trace. Duly subscribed, thank you
Thank you so much!
Gotta love the peak district
@@CabbageConquerer always feel so lucky to live nearish to the peaks <3
Beautiful. Nature makes you humble.
so true!! reminds you not to sweat the small stuff
😮
!!!!
Where is this? 😮
its thorpe cloud hill, near the dovedale stepping stones in the peak district!!
@ thank you
you're allowed to take one small rock home as a treat though
Hmmmm as long as its not the coolest looking one
Toilet paper. Jesus, people, take your toilet paper with you, or use moss, or a stone. No one want to see that shit on trail. Nice video 👍
Oh my god what makes people think leaving toilet paper is okay 😭
@@fareweld No idea. Probably selfishness
@@JonnoDoesStuff Infuriating
I love this advice. I think it boils down to be prepared/informed and be respectful of all living things. Some gates in the Peak District had signs on saying "Be nice, say Hi!" Such a simple but lovely thing.
I agree! Based on the amount of litter I see when hiking it's unfortunately not common sense to everyone (or they just choose to ignore it), so hopefully raising awareness will have a good impact. 'Be nice, say hi' is a great motto 😊
Truly a peak District
💀
pls drop your hiking recommendations 🧐
helvellyn is the best scramble
Nice
thank you!
based and mosspilled & i love your jacket so much !!!
omg MOSSPILLED!!!! thank u so much <3
Had no clue what LNT was but this video gave me an insight and also very much inspired me to go out and explore, something i will try start doing this year
I'm so happy to hear that you've been inspired!! My goal of being helpful to 1 person has been achieved. Thank you for watching!
@fareweld cannot wait for what you got in store for the future
So this is a huge pivot for my channel. After getting burnt out with content creation I decided to stop posting to social media and do some soul searching. Two and a half years later, I realised I need to make stuff that I actually feel passionate about, and for me, that's getting outside into nature and encouraging others to do the same! Hiking, paddle boarding, exploring and just being outside in general has had a huge effect on my life, and I'm super excited to start sharing it with you! 💚
Good decision, you need to have a passion for what you do to keep motivated. If people enjoy watching then that is a bonus.
@@Martin_JPG Thanks Martin, so true!
😁 also already do and i love massive rock structures
favourite rock formation? 👀
i already do and i love it ❤
