Episode 311 "Peter Criss & The Imposter On The Phil Donahue Show"
This week Tom & Zeus break down Peter Criss' surreal appearance on the Phil Donahue Show when he confronts an imposter and so much more.
In 1991, Star magazine, a tabloid, published a cover story where they claimed that Peter Criss was a homeless bum. The cover story actually said "KISS star now a homeless bum." The story was false and caused Peter a great deal of stress and it became a huge uproar for KISS fans,
The late great talk show host Phil Donahue invited Peter, the imposter and host of others to his show for what became an unbelievable episode.
The guys break down the episode SIOL style and discuss the outrageous event.
The guys then rank this KISS TV appearance against the previous KISS TV appearances they have reviewed so far.
So make sure you tune in or Peter will call you a F*@K!

Episode 297 "Gene Simmons Vault Disc 1"
The imposter looked more like Ace. This whole ordeal was like a scene out of an episode of the Twilight Zone
My Track Listing would be 1.Shandi 2.I 3.Creatures of the Night 4.I Love it Loud 5.Lick it Up 6.All Hells Breaking Loose 7.Heavens On Fire 8.Tears are Falling 9.Uh All Night 10.Crazy Crazy Nights 11.Hide your Heart 12.Forever The whole 80’s albums are represented, I never understood either why Unmasked and The Elder didn’t have a track representation. I also don’t agree on having songs from Killers and Smashes on this 20th century masters album, apart of the selling point for both the Killers and Smashes comps are the new songs on them and those songs were specifically available on those
This is almost like the early 90s "Fake Buckwheat" situation. An old black guy with untreated mental illness who bagged groceries claimed he was Buckwheat from The Little Rascals and "20/20" ran with the story without 5 minutes of research. One phone call to Our Gang scholar Leonard Maltin or Spanky McFarland (still alive in 1990) would've cleared it up immediately. I'm sure at least one producer at 20/20 was fired after that embarrassment.
Looking back, crazy to think this was only 5 years before the reunion. Eric was starting to get really sick at about this time, and the guys were already either working on or were about to record God Gave Rock and Roll To You. A lot happening in Kissworld in early ‘91.
Thanks for this episode. Lydia Criss in her book talked about the Donohue show appearance. Hope one day you touch on Peter's ill fated band in the 80's Balls of Fire and the Criss band in the 90s.
Remember this happening ANY self respecting KT knew it wasn’t Pete! Tip of the hat to Tom and Rosanne for wanting to help before they went off the deep end. But if you thought it was Pete you are no KT!!!
Question of the week: I couldn't go!!! I cannot handle Paul's vocals. His voice is shot!!! I would still love KISS if they would've ended it at the Farewell Tour but, they wouldn't go away!!! I couldn't take it listening to Paul sounding like Peter Brady singing "When It's Time To Change"!!!!
I predict Paul will join Gene on stage a couple times, the netflex Doc will hit towards end of the year , with end of the road doc by end of April..I also predict Shout it Loud Cast will still KICK 100% ASS!!!
I listen every week, and then I forget to comment. My brain's been so frazzled since I got booted by my horsey. I predict Gene will give a temperance lecture and condemn Ace and Peter for using chemicals. It's a long shot, I know, but Gene's been itching to speak about this for awhile now, and the truth must come out.
I predict I won’t spend any more cash on them with the exceptions being Gene’s tour or deep classic era live sound / video.
i predict gene simmons has been saying same interview for over 40 years so heres his new stories for 2025 . rock and brew was first resterant to put a slice pickle on a burger at his suggestion . consumer reports said the kiss coffin was a better cooler then a yeti and the gene simmons band will play the theme from the old show my three sons as a encore !!!
Bruce Kulick releases a book ……The Gloves are Off
Great review guys ,,,First time ARC commenter,,,so "Hear" me out here,,,,If you play the beginning of Memphis Hip Shake,,,and then play the beginning Bass line of Torpedo Girl and it could insirted into that song,,,also i kept wondering who the vocals remind me of,,,and then it hit me,,,it sounds like the first band in the opening song (Don't Throw Stones) in the infamous movie "RoadHouse",,,,,Keep up these great reviews
Team Chunk could be from The Goonies!!
Please permit me to go on a bit long here but I am soon to be 72 years old so don’t know how much time I have left! Lol! I got into KISS from the very beginning at 21 years of age! I attended, besides others, the 2000 Reunion Tour! It was awesome! The chemistry was there and everyone was in top form. That should have been the end of KISS! But they continued on with 2 impostors in the original makeup! A total disgrace! Then they go on this extended “End of the Road” Tour. Total cash grab! Paul’s voice is shot and uses backing vocal tracks! The “fans” in attendance were so young that they think it’s Ace and Peter on stage! I had an online argument with Michael from “Three Sides of the Coin” who claims to be such a KISS fan. He said he didn’t care that they were using backing tracks it’s the “show” that counted! WHAT the fuck! That’s when I was out on this version of KISS! Total true fan ripoff! What do you guys think about the guys wearing the original makeup and Paul using backing vocal tracks? By the way, I like KISS Alive 2 much better than KISS Alive! Better production, better sounding instruments! Just awesome! Thanks for letting me vent! By the way, after the argument with Michael, I saw him for the fraud fan he is and that podcast is dead to me now!
I would have bet my mortgage (and still might) that the Uh! in Larger Than Life was Paul
I remember seeing Alive II for the first time when my cousin visiting from the city brought it with him. I was hooked just by looking at it. I don’t remember the music except Shock Me. I was so young I couldn’t read yet so I thought the song said Shot Me and it was the guy puking blood sang the song. I guess KISS was the first word I could spell. 🤘
Saw them perform the whole album live in 2013 with the exception of Born To Be Wild. They played an outtake track instead.
1:30:52 My sisters boyfriend does that to her when they are shopping. He used to do it to his father until his father got feed up and started acting too... Would have loved to see that.
I will always love Bob's🎸 especially on Paul's solo album. But Ace⚡⚡⚡⚡, he is the one who had aura! RIP Bob Kulick🌹. Zeus is right. I see Eddie Trunk as the moral instigator behind the unnecessary make-up🎭 debates. Ace should not allow Eddie to use him against Tommy and Eric, in fact against Paul and Gene. Tom, Paul is "vindictive" to Eddie Trunk because psycho-therapists use to give advice: Avoid people who are "poisonous" for you. Paul is self-defensive. But Eddie seems to be obsessed with Paul. This episode was sad. But entertaining.
Thank you guys for an awesome 2024. Can't wait to hear what you are going to do in 2025
for the record, it did not go #1 in the US but did go #1 in the UK and spent 234 non-consecutive weeks on the BBoard chart.
Great episode with the new software. I would like to start a GO FUND ME and hire the greatest intercontinental champion of all time the Honky Tonk Man to do a little shake, rattle and roll and smash a few Kisstards with his guitar. Happy Holidays!
tom zeus thank you for another year of what you do so good !!! you always make me laugh you put out a great book and you do great interviews love dorm damage and when your guests on other pods looking foward to hearing that paul stanley clip like 500 times next year. peace out girlscout
Stop doing that to me
Joey your right....Zeus and Tom fans can be critical just not in the same way you can be....curious what Tom and Zeus want ? Probably the same thing as the rest of us want. You bot aren't the genius Kiss gurus...we all just want more and no pajamas
Merry KISSmas to all!!!.....GREAT SHOW
Pop house want fans to be their unpaid research firm.
I could be wrong, but i think it's 16x platinum, not 32...16 takes into account that it's a double album...no need to multiply by 2...
Even though 7800 is not as good beginning to end as their debut, this album was a must-play in the summer of 85 for this 16 year old as all of a sudden we noticed that the girls (sisters of guys like us or older) were all drooling over Bon Jovi and would want to share the headphones of the Walkman. That In and Out of Love video brings back such amazing memories, so easy to laugh at now, but in those days, all of us would watch that on VHS and dream about being the one wearing the long coat with the sailor hat and the perfect hair, not to shake the hands of those guys in the Wimbledon McEnroe shorts but to squirt our water pistol at the beauties walking by on the boardwalk...such an awesome choice and episode guys.....happy holidays to you and your loved ones!
just listen to everything you guys do your the best . YEET
This is how we fans felt when they released the Destroyer album
6 songs in the hall of of fame and all written by your fav Paul Stanley. Love the show but your disdain for Paul is kind of comical. You seam to give Gene a pass on most everything lol but it's cool. Nobody knows the inner working of that band and things aren't probably as the seam. Paul makes it easy to be the scapegoat
"You're now eating some pasta , that has been inducted into the Shout It Out Loud Cast HALL OF FAME!" - future quote from Paul...
7800 to New Jersey is one of the best 3 album runs in rock. If they would cut the stupid intro on Tokyo Road it would’ve been the hit that broke them
Great episode guys !!! You have a better Hall than that weak ass Hall which is called , Mistake by the Lake , I have your book ,love your book ,just bought my brother one for Christmas I'm sure he'll love it, as I do , I'm a die hard Kiss fan now I'm a die hard shout it out loud podcaster.. Merry Kissmas fellas ..hope Santa stops at the shed and takes care of Ace and Vinnie ..
One of Paul’s solo tracks did end up being used for a montage in South Park. They used “Live to Win” when the boys are in “training” to defeat the basement dweller who keeps killing them in World of Warcraft, complete with Cartman crapping in a bed pan so he didn’t have to leave his computer for even a few minutes. It’s hilarious.
I can’t get this image out of my head. It’s a frosty New England dawn on a wooden back road. A Delorean comes speeding down but quickly slows to a halt. The darkened window rolls down as the sounds of You Matter To Me blast into the cold air to reveal ZEUS as he tosses a hot, steamy bag of…….. Egg McMuffins and hash browns arcing over to a lonely kid at the bus top. “Eat up Chunky! Get funky like a monkey! (in a Dusty Rhodes voice) as the car revs and speeds back into the icy fog.
good to see FISH got in the hall of fame ! what are the chances for peppy castro robert parish nut sack and tony twist in the future ? also you need a arc on 200 stab wounds
About last week's comment. I knew that one would backfire. Turns out we were at Devereux's house. I didn't know him. It was odd that I was invited to his watch party. He was happy to see that we were all looking disappointed by the last show. Apparently the guy has had some beef with Kiss since the 70s.
Fantastic the spirt of SIOLC is alive and kicking love ya boys….Raise Your Glasses of Ouzo
Maybe they were in denial that it was their last show?!
You dudes always make my day/night better!. My favorite Christmas song is a celine dion song that dont realize was written by dee snider. “The magic of Christmas “(god bless us everyone). Its not a twisted song. Its actually a beautiful tune.
I guess I'm happy that you guys sound like you've put the final show fiasco behind you, but after listening to the three of you, especially David, describe the anticipation and excitement you felt for that final evening, only to sit around at midnight, wondering what the hell happened as you were witness to just another KISS show, makes my blood boil. I can even understand why fragile Paul would not want to share the final stage with Peter and Ace as their presence would probably have the crowd erupt in cheers and leave him standing in the background. Yet, how fucking difficult would it have been to bring out 4 chairs for them to sit on, maybe the ones from the Phantom movie are still available, and have them watch along with the audience the big screen showing a 15-20, even 30 minute medley of KISS concert footage from the 70s on while the names of all KISS personnel, dead or alive, scroll through so that everyone can see how many people helped this band reach the heights they did throughout six decades. A final bow, a heartfelt thank you, even a tear from Gene, and I can guarantee that the DVD would be bought as a collector's item by every KISS fan across the globe. Instead, they chose to ignore their own legacy. Thanks for the show fellas.
I got more emotional when I handed in my car lease this week than Paul Stanley did at his last concert.
This dude in my city had a viewing party for the last concert. His name sounded French, like Devver-oh or something. As the 10 of us watched, visibly getting more and more disappointed, Devver-oh gently tapped his finger tips together and said, "Good, good. Everything is going perfectly."
Exciter is my favorite song off of Lick it up
I saw the Allman Brothers last show in Oct 2014. Tney played a 3 set 28 song show that lasted 3 and a half hours ending at 1:30 in the morning. Before the last song the surviving 3 guys each Addressed the crowd thanking us and Gregg Allman told the story of his first gig with the band and the first song they ever played together “Trouble no more” and how it would be the last song they played together and they closed it with Trouble No more. Tne place went crazy and it was nice to see the band and the crowd enjoying and relishing the moment. That’s how a band should say goodbye. Love the show boys
So The rumor is That the DVD , CD Deluxe Box set of the final Kiss show will be Available as part of the Avatar Launch. Gene is offering an Avatar Experience so For $2000 Gene will come to your house with a Giant screen ( for the Avatar ) and a 24 variety pack of money bag soda. As a bonus the first 100 people that order will receive an Autographed copy of Kiss New Years goodbye in Dubai! Why would Gene do this for the fans?.... Cuz F!@#% Em that's why!..... Great Episode but you shouldn't keep your feelings bottled up like that.
sean hannity is a creep his head is like a watermelon with eyes humpty dumpty in a suit gene got out all his patent bs he says all the time except he discovered van halen but hannity would have said who is this woman helen that you speak of ? great show guys zeus love your line gene in his planet of the apes wig
