    Hello chief, love your videos! How would the chief officer life compare to that of the second officer? Is it much more difficult?

    • @sun57vin
      @sun57vin 27 днів тому

      The responsibilities of a Chief Officer is a lot higher than that of a Second Officer, which does make it more difficult and more so on tankers. Any Second Officer looking forward to being promoted should be mentally and physically prepared to take on a lot more responsibilities such as cargo work, deck maintenance and crew management. Getting the grasp of a Chief Officer's job when in the position of a Second Officer, will offer the confidence needed when promoted.

    Good day sir, I have to say that your videos are really amazing 😌. Currently I am persuing DNS from SIMTI so sir can you please make the videos regarding the bridge equipments used onboard so that we get a better idea that how that particular equipment works onboard, what's the purpose of that, what are the limitations,etc. And about the cargo also, in this video you have discussed about Annex1, Annex2 and about MARPOL please discuss some more points on that topic. And thank you sir for making such content. 🙂😌

    This follow up upload further amplifies the sheer 'load' on a Chief Mate of a chemical tanker. The numerous tank cleaning operations during the short runs between ports is so typical on such tankers and previous experience is what prepares you both mentally and physically to accept the pressure. Added to all this activity was the vetting inspections lined up. That internal view of a tank served well to depict the size and the fittings within. Palm oil being loaded from road tankers does happen in some of the smaller ports and in the bargain port stays do become 'welcoming' long. Not being allowed to go ashore in Golfito seems to be unfair by the Authorities but I did observe that at a later stage the crew were allowed to go. Such breaks are indeed needed for tanker staff. You too need to step out during slow loading. All in all, a whole month on board being squeezed into 40 minutes has been executed excellently and I sincerely hope it reaches as many seafarers as possible. Last but not least, the signing off in Houston was something you deserved !! 🙂

    • @NITINCHAWLA
      @NITINCHAWLA 25 днів тому

      Good day sir, agreed on the load aspect of a chief mates life! Tank cleaning on the last vessel was every voyage and almost everyday due to The nature of the vessels trade, short voyages and numerous parcels. The tank tour was rather impromptu! Im sure u have tons of experience at your end with parcels and cargoes! Like palm oil! Golfito was bitter sweet as we did 4 days there and got shore leave just 1.5 days worth. Thank you as always!

    Sir.... I have worked om a chemical tanker as a cadet and 2 contract as third but ive never seen a chief officer as cool as you. The fact that you managed to capture this video despite the hectic schedules and work pressures on you is appreciable.Chief officer life in chemical tanker is the worst life on board but will be fun if you embrace the challenges.But fortunately or unfortunately i switched to bulk carriers considering my limitations of handling more pressures and work environment.I do enjoy my life in here and ppl including master see me highly cos i was an ex tanker man. Though i enjoy my relaxed life in here i still miss that challenging cargo operations and tank cleaning operations which i used to enjoy.Anyways im happy with my decision. I do hope every cadets get a wonderful Superiors like you on tankers so that they can be prepared for the hardest scenarios in best possible way.

    This is a nice 'follow up' to your previous upload - 30 Days at Sea. You may have your own reasons to title it the way you did, but had it been "Life of a Chief Mate on a Chemical Tanker", that would have been apt too 🙂. You have covered the many aspects experienced on chemical tankers rather well - the short runs between ports, the unexpected 'blessings' that come when the vessel gets some time in the anchorage, the tank cleaning operations en route, cargo parcels waiting for loading, SIRE inspections, navigational watches, the paperwork, the Sunday biryani and so forth. That you say you have had many postings on chemical tankers since you were a cadet, it would bring in some amount of a 'comfort level' when in the Management position but the message is clear - life is tough for a Chief Mate on a chemical tanker ! Couldn't help noticing the rather basic layout of your cabin 🙂but understandable considering the size of the vessel. The differences between a vessel built in Japan and that in South Korea is quite evident especially when the Korean ones sport better interiors. Good use of the Go Pro and possibly an iPhone to document your life at sea. I sincerely wish more seafarers discover your channel and realise your presentations are a lot superior than the many floating around ! Keep them coming 🙂.

    • @NITINCHAWLA

      Haha im so glad again that you enjoyed the video! The naming is on point from your end! No doubt about it! It is actually life of a chief mate on a chemical tanker more than anything else! Ofcourse being on chemical has definitely helped over the years and it all adds up to my current experience in rank. Korean ships are so much better built wrt to their accommodations but Japanese ships have better build quality in my humble opinion! Haha the cabin is tiny no doubt! Thank you again for being here!

    • @sun57vin
      @sun57vin Місяць тому

      @@NITINCHAWLA I would agree to the 'quality' part when it comes to ships built in Japan. After all they dominated the shipbuilding industry for ages until South Korea overtook them. Soon, we'll be saying the quality of the South Korean builds are superior to the Chinese ones 🙂.

    Joining the vessel in Houston would have kept you travelling for almost 22 hours I guess (I am speaking from my own experiences in joining vessels in U.S. ports after flying out from Bombay). Worst is being driven straight from the airport to the vessel and then taking over when completely jet lagged ! Those 22 minutes depicted the rigors of life of a Chief Mate on a pure chemical tanker !! It was nicely documented and almost on a time lapse mode. It would be an eye opener for anyone with limited knowledge of a 28 COT chemical tanker. Added to that was the tank cleaning ops and the CDI inspection too. Crossing the Panama Canal is always a welcome experience and its only us seafarers who have this privilege. I figured the 'Ginga Liger' is Japanese built and of 25k DWT. Quite a spacious CCR for a vessel of that size. Looking forward to more uploads.

      Hi sir, good to Hear from you, im sure you have a ton of experience when it comes to joining vessels from the US. I agree about how hectic those straight take overs can be specially when jet lag hits. As always i appreciate seeing your comments here and im glad you enjoy the videos. Ginga liger indeed is a jap built vessel, she did have a rather large ccr/ ships office for her size. More to come soon!

These are the fun times one has to sacrifice when opting for a career at sea. This would be an 'advanced primer' for those who are new to chemical tankers and quite informative for cadets in general. Everything has been well 'documented' verbally as the tour has covered various regions of the vessel. Japanese built ships have their 'trade marks' and the most visible one is the absence of the 'integrated bridge system' which South Korean yards offer for all their buildings. There are also those bare steel bulkheads in the alleyways and the decks inside the accommodation are painted ones unlike the laminated bulkheads and the linoleum covered decks of the Korean built vessels. I can about imagine the level of tank cleaning and tank preparation required after the discharge of hazardous chemicals and to accept palm oil as the next cargo. As always, your narrations, explanations and depictions have quality that puts your videos in the forefront and surpasses many of the other 'ship tours' seen in UA-cam. Looking forward to more uploads from you.

    • @NITINCHAWLA
      @NITINCHAWLA 5 місяців тому

      Haha so right about the Japanese vessel trademarks! Ive worked on Korean builds with IBS as you rightly mentioned, very sophisticated equipment on most of them. Tank cleaning on these ships can be pretty taxing, ironically this was my second last vessel. These videos are heavily back dated, the new ship series is in the edit stage atm, trying a different style of creative work in the new series, hoping you enjoy it when it releases. Appreciate your support, next life at sea vide shall be within the next month!
