    I wonder if that would work for a canoe.

      I don't think so because a canoe rides best upside down on the crossbars instead of on it's side like a kayak. But you can put a rug on the back of the vehicle and scoot it up onto your crossbars from the back.

    Great and explanatory video, you made it look super easy and simple. How long is your kayak, and how long is your car? I'm curious because I'm considering about buying touring kayak (505cm) and my car is just a bit shy of that length (496cm) from start to end.....so not sure if I should look for a smaller kayak or a bigger car :)

    • @Dr_Footbrake
      @Dr_Footbrake 6 місяців тому

      My kayak is 545cm with the rudder on and my car is 435cm. I stick all the length out the rear and tie a hi vis vest to the end of it.

    I'm a 60 kg retiree, so not particularlty strong. I just carry my 17 ft sea kayak to the water on my shoulter, or lift it overhead onto my roof racks. I don't need any carts or assistance, because my kayaks are glass laminate, not rotomoulded PE & as they were made in the 70s, not grossly over built. For some reason I find unfathomable, kayaks have continued to get heavier & more rediculously expensive over the last half century or so & yet people still buy the darn burdonsom things. Why strap these millstones around your necks........

    I'm 67 years old. Born and raised in Tennessee and fished with my grandfather and father on the Nolichucky River most of my growing up years. I can tell you right now, you are misinformed and spewing out false information to the public about your minimal knowledge of trotlines. You better go back and research more. This is mostly bulls**t. Until all these "white water" and other groups wanting to make money off people, there was never an issue. A real trotline is tied at each end, anchored to the bottom, and monitored all the time by the setter. The people who don't know much about trotlines, set them carelessly and do not remove them after the fishing trip. If a person is law abiding and respects fish and game, they retrieve the lines before going home. I have encountered many "white water" fools searching diligently for any fisherman's lines and cutting them, just so they can say "hey, look at me. I cut the lines of those assholes". It's the river rafting outfits that give trotline fishing a bad rap. So screw your evaluation. I was trotline fishing with my grandfather in a Model T Ford long before you and your safety sissies came along. And also, for your information, most trotline fishermen fish at night. There's no damn idiots floating the river at that time. And furthermore, trotlines aren't meant to be set in shallow water like your little stream there. Catfish are deep. They move slowly searching for food on the bottom.

  • @WWDTruth
    @WWDTruth Рік тому

    Trotlines don't need to stretch across. They can easily go down the bank and catch fish, too. I do think they should be used, just more responsibly. Fisherfolk know where tubers and kayakers frequent, and vice versa. We can all enjoy the river at the right times for the right reasons. God bless.

    If they are visible during daylight hours from April 1 to October they are in violation. They can only be used from dusk till dawn. Cut the lines and keep safe

    I have done multi-day canoe trips with friends on the rivers of southern Georgia and northern Florida in late March/early April. Another trotline style I've seen on those trips is just a dropper-line tied to a branch extending above the water. At that time of year, they are obviously untended since they typically have collected sticks and moss. Sometimes they have a bit of survey ribbon or a beer-can shiner to help highlight them, sometimes not. If they are close to where we are paddling in the river channel, I cut the line above the water and collect the hook so we (and others) won't get snagged.

      We are trying to get a law passed. Don’t make it worse by bad mouthing local fishermen. Your obviously not from the region. Limb lines provide food for families. Fisherman should take them up at first light.
