Coloured Pencil Landscape with Donkey using Caran D'Ache Pencils - Video No. 150
Hi Everyone.
Apologies that I haven't posted a video for a while but we have had our big kids and grandkids staying and family takes priority.
Today's video is using Caran D'Ache coloured pencils again but this time it is a Landscape with a Donkey. I don't really enjoy doing coloured pencil landscapes but I'm trying to persevere to improve. I love doing portraits with this medium or even still life but I've always shied away from landscapes so I thought it was about time I changed. Not overly pleased with the landscape part of the finished article, but I like the donkey and it shows that I enjoyed doing him more than the background. In my next video I will be doing the same picture but using my old favourite watercolour. Hope you will check out that video and compare the two.
See you next time and Happy Painting until then.

Coloured Pencil Baby Portrait - Caran D'Ache Coloured Pencils - Video No. 149
Переглядів 67Місяць тому
Hi Everyone, Welcome or welcome back to my channel. Sorry there is no commentary on today's video but I am using the same pencils (Caran D'Ache :iminance 6901) as in last week's video. This is the third baby portrait using coloured pencils. I am sure I will do more in the future as it is my favourite subject. I felt that I made the skin shadows a bit dark in this week's sketch and it makes him ...

Hi Everyone, In this video I try out some top of the range coloured pencils by Caran D'Ache. They are absolutely gorgeous BUT very pricey. If you are a beginner then I would recommend trying a budget priced pencil make first and then if you decide coloured pencils are for you and you have gained some experience then try out a small pack of these lovely pencils, you can always save up and go big...

I wanted to show in this video that you don't need to spend a fortune on coloured pencils to make reasonable drawings. This pack is a pack of 12 pencils and these particular ones were the short pencils. You can get a pack like this for under £4 thus making coloured pencil art available to everyone. Try out these good quality budget coloured pencils first and if you get hooked then think about i...

    Great video and teaching style. I just subscribed and am shocked there aren't WAY more subscribers! I have a question. As a relative beginner and on a budget due to a restraint from many medical bills, could I get away with the Faber Castell basics vs. splurging for the Polychromos? I still want to blend and layer. Thanks. GREAT work.

    • @cariesauzepaintings7117
      @cariesauzepaintings7117 4 місяці тому

      @cliffberry1900 Thank you for your kind comments. Yes I would say that you could use these instead of the Polychromos. They do blend really well. I would say the main disadvantages are that you can't get such a complete colour range as the professional pencils and I'm not sure you can buy the pencils individually if you use one or two on a constant basis. I also don't know their lightfast quality. But if you're just starting out or on a budget then these are ideal and then you can always save up for the professional pencils in the future or buy a few Polychromos individually to supplement your colour palette. Regards and Happy painting. Carie. X

      I don't know if it smudges. I don't think it would if you've added water to your pencil drawing but probably would if not. You can always spray with "fixative" which stops smudging on pencil and pastel drawings, but don't do it until it's finished as it does change the texture. You won't be able to erase anything afterwards. The other thought is to keep a piece of tissue in between the pages. Hope that helps. Regards. Carie. X

    • @cariesauzepaintings7117
      @cariesauzepaintings7117 5 місяців тому

      Hi @jacqicoote_art, yes I use Bockingford for sketches and when I teach classes. I bought a large supply when it was made by Daler-Rowney but they have been taken over by Canson. Saunders Waterford (St Cuthbert's Mill) also make Bockingford paper. I'm actually not sure if Bockingford is cellulose or RAG paper or more probably a mixture of the two. As it's a reasonably priced paper I doubt it's 100% cotton RAG. Arches is a beautiful 100% cotton RAG paper and Fabriano also make a 100% range called "Artistico". If you look at the written description in my video No.126 I mention a lot of different ranges of watercolour papers. Hope that's ok some help, but not sure I've fully answered your question. Regards Carie. X

      Thanks, Carie! I hope your sight remains stable, too. I started keto after having a bad seizure (never had one before) almost 2 years ago. I have no memory of it but emerged with a black eye and a huge purple goose egg on my forehead. Referred to a neurologist who said that if I remained seizure-free for two years, it was far less likely to happen again. That was when I consulted Dr. Google on “how to avoid seizures” and learned about keto. Keto solves so many health issues. I had some sweets during the festive weeks, too. I find "Prismacolor" pencils to be very waxy in texture and I'm not keen on them but many people rave about them. Faber-Castell pencils are definitely my favourite over Derwent as well. And the "Classic" range are really good value. Hope this helps. Happy Painting. Carie.

    • @cariesauzepaintings7117
      @cariesauzepaintings7117 Рік тому

      Hi Xenderman, Actually that's the first time I've drawn/painted a steam engine. I think one tip I would like to pass on is for making the steam look realistic. Use white watercolour paint (which I never usually add to watercolours!) or a white water soluble gel pen to add the steam on top of the finished engine and add a bit of water to loosen it up and the whiter bit should be be in the center of the smoke/steam with the edges fading out. Practice this first on a piece of scrap paper. Paint a black square and let dry and then try adding white smoke with a white wash and practice adding more or less water. I think the smoke from the train in my sketch is the most important detail, not just from the smoke stack but also around the wheels. Good luck and have fun painting. Carie. X

I'm actually trying to put together a watercolour course, so far I've only talked about paper and that was a few weeks ago as I've just been really busy but the next video is about brushes and the one after that paints and after that I will go into techniques. Happy Painting. Carie. X

    A bit late to say it now Carie but the pencils should have been returned as not up to scratch but the video was enjoyable and turned out pretty well despite your misgivings. I hope you have now , one year later, come to terms with the muted colour selection. Best wishes to you

      Thank you for your comments. I had actually had this tin of pencils for several years and not tried them out so returning them not a possibility but I still think these pencils have potential for winter scenes and enjoy using them for that. Regards Carie.

    I Am Totally New At Colouring, I Don't Have A Big Budget Are They Easy To Blend? Thank You take Caee

    • @cariesauzepaintings7117
      @cariesauzepaintings7117 Рік тому

      Hi Debbie, I find them easy to blend and out of all the budget priced pencils these are the best I have found so far. A lot of the cheaper pencils have very pale colours and no matter how many layers they just do not increase in depth of colour , whereas the Faber Castell pencils are very vibrant. I also use their professional sets which have a much wider range of colours and the wood is better quality but the difference in price is huge and I think as a starter pencil these "Classic" pencils are great and you may never want to change. This is entirely my own experience and impartial opinion as I do not have any affiliation to Faber Castell. Good luck on you colouring journey. There are lots of lovely videos on You Tube to give you ideas with coloured pencils. Kirsty Partridge is particularly good and does amazing coloured pencil drawings. Thank you . Regards. Carie. x

      Thank you rudycarlson8245. From a photo of Her Majesty that I found on a copyright free site as I didn't want to infringe upon anyone's copyrighted photo. Always a difficult challenge when trying ro find a source photo of someone famous. My dad was a professional photographer and photographed the Queen when she came to his town several times to open buildings etc. But I didn't have time to sort through all his photos. Regards Carie.

    It is a beautiful tribute to her Majesty! I used to listen every Christmas to her Christmas speech I look forward to it every Christmas when I heard she wasn’t doing well I hope and I prayed that she would pull through but the next day when my mom told me that she had unfortunately passed away I was very stunned seem like she was a figure that would be here forever she was queen my entire life and I came along in 1986

      Thank you Brian. The main thing is to enjoy "playing" with art. If you draw every day and don't worry about the "failures" you will improve and you may even discover that the "failures" aren't that at all when you look back on them. Just enjoy the process of making art and don't worry about the end result. Happy Painting! Carie. X
