I am back to comment again. All I can say is WOW!!!! What a mini city. When I was there it was a different world for sure. Very impressive the tax dollars the trusted elected officials spent...not just here but around the world. I never learned "KICK BACK" in high school, if I had I might have opted out on a career in the military and went into politics. But back then I trusted the government. RIGHT??? Gotta trust the Government. So all this money dumped here on soldiers that didn't sign up for creature comforts. Now not one American is stationed there. Wow and why was it built and who cashed checks??? I hear a lot of stupid people say..." if I had it to do all over, I would do it the same way." Well NOT ME... I would have gone into politics. Shit that is where the money is at....literally paid by the tax payers to steal as much money as you can thus your drive to remain in office. Yeah, if I had to do it all over again....I would have gone into politics.

  • @easyguitarlessonsgrandpaal9126

Looks so different. Left CRC back in '05. Time flies. A122 SIG. We had the barracks up on the hill, above the a small Motorpool near the katusa shack. Every year, I was there, we got flooded. Once, we couldnt even leave the barracks the water levels were so high. @1:19 There was a ENG or Admin company to the right of Speed Limit sign. They used to care for/had a St Bernard. This is some memory lane stuff here... Mitchell's. We had a lame duck NCO, who did sets there. Apparently, he was the best DJ on post at the time. Also, I won't forget having my ankle completely go out after rolling my ankle in a pothole just outside the gates ahead.

I Corp was clearly not a fun place in 1955. The village was only a stop in the dusty road. KATUSA were stationed on base however none worked in the Post Office ( 10th APU, APO 358 ) The Black Market was a source of income for a number of people, sure remember those days at the Post Office.

What a change from 1955 / 56 . At the time I was there it was 1 st Corp Hq. Was stationed there and worked at 10th APU / APO 358. At the time the post Office was across from the PX and Movie Theater . Lived in a Quonset Hut. Had two House Boys, If I recall we chipped in about $ 5.00 per month. They each made about $ 100.00 ea per month. No inside plumbing ( P. Tube ) outside the door. At the time it was known as 1st Corps Hq with 3 Star General . Long tour 18 or 19 months. Clearly was not a fun place to be, the Village had no buildings. Huts and shops, gutter in front of the houses was pretty much their sewer system. Young children were often barefoot even in the winter. No EM Club, Only NCO where everyone went. Slots and .25 Lowenbrau Beer. Trucked in the " Moose " in trucks to dance with, different life in 1955. Cigarettes $ 2.50 in the PX, limit 2 cartons. Sold to House Boy for $ 5.00 each, he had a connection with a KATUSA friend who let him take them out. (Threw Over Fence near back gate ) I'm sure he made a big profit in the Village. Many ordered thru the Sears Catalog and made good Money on the Black Market , CID would come in to see who was receiving Sears packages.Yep, it all came through the package area of the P O , Why not, PFC's made about $ 100.00 per month. Our mail at APO 358 arrived by boat ( Inchon ) and was sent to the Main Rail Station in Seoul, Air Mail arrived at KIMPO ( Main Airport in Seoul. Our APU had our own trucks to PU at Rail Station and for Airmail H 13's to fly us to KIMPO.

When I left, the main post office shared the same parking lot with a very small PX & movie theater, it's was across the street from the church in the video. The theater couldn't get first run movies, so they played movies from DVDs and projected them onto the front screen. Movies & popcorn were free. Winters were cold....I really enjoyed the Spring & Fall season at Camp Red Cloud.

Holy crap! I was there in 1968/70, and it was nothing like your video. I was with the 2/71 Artillery . Base camp was Redcloud and worked on hill 468. We lived in Quonset huts, hot in summer and freezing in the winter, nothing but tin between you and the elements. Looking back, it wasn’t all that bad, but living through it sucked. 50 years have passed and the place is a thriving metropolis compared to the remote outpost it was. Thank you for posting, enjoyed your video.

House boys got the heat going after a cold night in the winter, we paid them $ 10.00 from all of us. We did have a nice PX and Theater across from the Post Office. No EM club, we did get to go to the club where all levels of EM went. Lowenbrau beer was .25 cents.

Wow.....I was stationed there from December 1979 to Dec. 1980. My second assignment when I entered the military. Lived in the barracks near the back gate. Obviously the units / blgs have a newer look; but I recognize the layout of the base very well. Especially when you rode up by the movie theater, helicopter landing area, mountains in the background and the back gate area. Had a radio site up on that mountain; worked up there and on base when I was stationed there. Seeing this meant a lot.
