    My instructor taught not to lift foot, if you did he would sweep the leg that is in the floor. Doing cartwheels not fun.

    • @troydorseystriking
      @troydorseystriking 19 годин тому

      That’s only if you lift the foot too high. A proper leg check should be lifted just enough to check the kick. If you lift your foot too high, it can make you vulnerable to sweeps and other counterattacks.

    This is great, and im trying to undo my muscle memory a bit to incorporate this (not to say my classic check is that great. Im old & slow and oftentimes just eat the leg kick anyway). One negative for me: im pretty bad at reading a low kick vs a body kick. So to use this knee check, id probably need to k-block most body kicks. Also, the classic check can be more easily adapted into an "oh shit" defense of a teep (since im not great at reading those either).

    • @troydorseystriking

      For sure, the cool thing is that as you practice the reinforced check you’ll see that it can be as fast as any other. But I totally get it… i’ve done the classic check so much that it tends to be my “ohh crap” reaction sometimes

    • @troydorseystriking
      @troydorseystriking 2 дні тому

      And maybe I misunderstood you. If you mean the person who is doing the reinforced check can catch the ankle and sweep the other person’s support leg, ABSOLUTELY 👍🏻 that is a great sweep setup

  • @escapetheratrace4798
    @escapetheratrace4798 2 дні тому

    What's stopping them from just coming down with the shin on top of your thigh? What is stopping them from kicking higher to the body, you are giving them and opening under the elbow... Also you wont be off balance when you check a kick if your supporting foot is positioned properly, toes sideways not forward.

    • @troydorseystriking
      @troydorseystriking 2 дні тому

      Great questions. Just like with any technique you are trying to counter you look for a pattern. For the person to kick down on your thigh is a different kick angle which means a different pattern which means a different counter/defense. The opening under the elbow is always there, even with the classic check. If you raise the classic check up too high, the person can kick underneath your leg to the opposite leg. If you’re worried about the person kicking to the body again that’s a different kick angle which means a different pattern which means a different counter/defense. You’re definitely right that you have better balance when you make sure that you’re supporting foot is positioned properly however we were commenting on common mistakes made when using the classic check because of the speed in which you have to act to pull it off. Thanks for the questions and for watching 🥊🥊🥊

    Hip and leg kicks are a great way to break their momentum if timed well, you do it to the lead leg as they step forward- it takes a second for them to get back into a rhythm. I used to fuck around with a well- timed inner thigh kick followed by a spinning backfist during sparring, would probably never use it in a real match. Only downside is that it's a little risky, if they turn you'll nail them in the sac, lol

  • @justsayin3600
    @justsayin3600 9 днів тому

    1st. When fighting with legs, that's the minimum defense distance. You can't get punched if you can't get touched. If you're not ready to engage, manage distance and contact. Since you're practicing, he should have switched his angle, or blocked it with his left forearm, deflecting it to his left, and kicked your left leg from under you. Practice. Practice. PRACTICE. AFTER 10K reps you'll master movement.

      Hey Zachary, thanks for your comment! It’s important to note that not every kick needs to be powerful to be effective. Landing strikes, even light ones, can have a significant psychological effect on your opponent. It disrupts their rhythm and confidence, especially if they are trying to block but can’t stop you from scoring. In this particular technique, we’re using a sidekick and when it lands on the ribs, it can be extremely painful, even if it’s not delivered with maximum power. It’s all about strategy and keeping your opponent guessing. Keep training hard!

By traditional Muay Thai, I mean the classic style of Muay Thai that emphasizes powerful strikes with all parts of the body (fists, elbows, knees, and shins), clinch work, and a strong, balanced stance. It's the style commonly practiced and taught in Thailand. I am sure you already know this which is why you’re asking which one.
