Advanced Kickboxing Counters for High-Risk Power Rewards
My instructor taught not to lift foot, if you did he would sweep the leg that is in the floor. Doing cartwheels not fun.
That’s only if you lift the foot too high. A proper leg check should be lifted just enough to check the kick. If you lift your foot too high, it can make you vulnerable to sweeps and other counterattacks.
It’s kind of like how Jose Aldo and Charles Oliveira check kicks, they bring the foot back to the glutes to counter both low kicks & calf kicks
Very Similar 🥊🥊🥊
I step back 5 feet while I’m drawing my weapon in fear for my life. Rest in peace brother.
Haha, you win brotha 🥊
Should it work in 2 legs
Hey brotha can you explain what you mean?
@@troydorseystriking kick catch in video is only for left leg or i can use it in right leg to
It will only work on the opposite leg if your stance is switched since you should only check with your front leg.
The massochists check 😭
Haha 🥊
This is great, and im trying to undo my muscle memory a bit to incorporate this (not to say my classic check is that great. Im old & slow and oftentimes just eat the leg kick anyway). One negative for me: im pretty bad at reading a low kick vs a body kick. So to use this knee check, id probably need to k-block most body kicks. Also, the classic check can be more easily adapted into an "oh shit" defense of a teep (since im not great at reading those either).
For sure, the cool thing is that as you practice the reinforced check you’ll see that it can be as fast as any other. But I totally get it… i’ve done the classic check so much that it tends to be my “ohh crap” reaction sometimes
Great. Where can you train me? 😅
Haha, I’ll do my best right here :) but if you’re serious stay tuned to this channel because we are dropping some in person training event info here in the next couple of months
sweep city keep doing that , a ramp to ankle for sweep
I’m sorry brother, I don’t mean to be rude, but that doesn’t make any sense. Even the classic check exposes your support leg ankle.
And maybe I misunderstood you. If you mean the person who is doing the reinforced check can catch the ankle and sweep the other person’s support leg, ABSOLUTELY 👍🏻 that is a great sweep setup
What's stopping them from just coming down with the shin on top of your thigh? What is stopping them from kicking higher to the body, you are giving them and opening under the elbow... Also you wont be off balance when you check a kick if your supporting foot is positioned properly, toes sideways not forward.
Great questions. Just like with any technique you are trying to counter you look for a pattern. For the person to kick down on your thigh is a different kick angle which means a different pattern which means a different counter/defense. The opening under the elbow is always there, even with the classic check. If you raise the classic check up too high, the person can kick underneath your leg to the opposite leg. If you’re worried about the person kicking to the body again that’s a different kick angle which means a different pattern which means a different counter/defense. You’re definitely right that you have better balance when you make sure that you’re supporting foot is positioned properly however we were commenting on common mistakes made when using the classic check because of the speed in which you have to act to pull it off. Thanks for the questions and for watching 🥊🥊🥊
I love the reinforced check. Makes so much more sense. Thanks!
Awesome 🥊 thank you for watching and commenting 💪
@@troydorseystriking I went full in, i also subscribed and liked your video.Well deserved. I never did Muay Thai, would be nice to see more useful techniques. Simple yet very effective, even outside a typical Muay Thai setting.
Yes sir, you got it 🥊🥊🥊
My favorite teep placement. Works really well with inverted teep too
For sure 🥊 thanks for watching 👊🏻
Sometimes it’s like catching a fastball, you sit there for a split second amazed that it worked and you negated all that force 😅❤
So true, definitely one of my favorite ways 🥊🥊🥊
Hip and leg kicks are a great way to break their momentum if timed well, you do it to the lead leg as they step forward- it takes a second for them to get back into a rhythm. I used to fuck around with a well- timed inner thigh kick followed by a spinning backfist during sparring, would probably never use it in a real match. Only downside is that it's a little risky, if they turn you'll nail them in the sac, lol
I agree, hip kicks can really mess up the other guys rhythm and momentum. Can be pretty frustrating. Thanks for watching 🥊🥊🥊
Catching kicks in general is a great way to punish an indiscriminate kicker, forcing your opponent to be more selective about when and where they kick!
I completely agree 🥊
1st. When fighting with legs, that's the minimum defense distance. You can't get punched if you can't get touched. If you're not ready to engage, manage distance and contact. Since you're practicing, he should have switched his angle, or blocked it with his left forearm, deflecting it to his left, and kicked your left leg from under you. Practice. Practice. PRACTICE. AFTER 10K reps you'll master movement.
It’s a tutorial on how to do it. Thanks for watching 🥊
Our coach taugth us that roundhouse but for leg kicks, later i was practicing it at the heavy bag and she was like: what are you doing?
Coaches can be funny with stuff like that… at the end of the day if you trust your coach always fall back on what they say 🥊
Well yeah, I’ll bet it’s easy with those sweet ass gloves!
Haha, for sure 🥊🥊🥊
Youre stalling too much on the feint. That decreases the full potential and power of the actual kick. Also telegraphing a bit too much with the feint. Opens a big window to get countered.
It's impressive that you got all of that from a 6-second short! You should definitely shoot some of your own videos and post them.
Are you southpaw or doing switch kick?
This specific one from this video is a switch kick. Great question 🥊
Beautiful sweet science motto
Glad you enjoyed the video 🥊👊
Thank you for going over set up! Its one thing to learn a kick, but you gotta have a setup for it!
You got it! Setups are everything. Glad you enjoyed the video 🥊
Cool video
🥊🥊🥊
Hey I have a question
Question away…
Do you still go to troy dorsey studio
Yes sir. Troy Dorsey, Ty Garrett and I are the ones who create and post these videos 🥊
@@troydorseystriking but that’s not what the studio looks like
We film at several studios and will be at the one your talking about in the next few months to film some boxing 🥊
Scary dont want to see this guy down an alley way
Good news, he is a pretty nice guy 👍🏻 haha. Thanks for watching and commenting 🥊
Those Wolverine gloves are SICK 🤘
Haha, thanks brotha, they are some of my favorites 🥊🥊🥊
They are cool but Hayabusa over prices them imo the actual glove is $120 but since it's marvel. The marvel branded gloves cost $250 ($130 just for some cool decals)
You’re not lying, expensive logos
Sounds like a very weak side kick
Hey Zachary, thanks for your comment! It’s important to note that not every kick needs to be powerful to be effective. Landing strikes, even light ones, can have a significant psychological effect on your opponent. It disrupts their rhythm and confidence, especially if they are trying to block but can’t stop you from scoring. In this particular technique, we’re using a sidekick and when it lands on the ribs, it can be extremely painful, even if it’s not delivered with maximum power. It’s all about strategy and keeping your opponent guessing. Keep training hard!
@@troydorseystriking Scoring. Gotcha.
🥊🥊🥊
@@Gumblethebearnot just scoring, positioning and disrupting poise as well. We often throw teeps after feinting or missing roundhouse kicks in Muay Thai as well, not because of scoring alone, but because knocking our opponent out of position and off balance is always a prudent thing to do.
Well said brotha 🥊
Wow this is actually some great content, thanks ytb recommendations !
We appreciate that! Thanks for watching 🥊
..excellent unorthodox hitting, using the tilting and recovery movement with inclination..!!
🥊🥊🥊
Slick trick in a street fight
Thanks for the comment! While this technique is slick and can definitely be effective in various scenarios, always remember that street fights are unpredictable and anything can happen. I know you know this. Always prioritize safety whenever possible. I appreciate you watching 🥊
@@troydorseystriking thank you sir, thats good wisdom for anyone to hear. Never fight if you dont have to
🥊🥊🥊
i knew nothing about slipping, it was a friendly left hand only spar and tried against a more experienced parthner, it somewhat worked but agreed, if it was full on he would have absolutely destroyed me
For sure, glad it was just practice and not full speed. This set up is for the advanced for sure. Thank you for watching and commenting 🥊
Awesome content thank you! I think you genuinely just improved my round kick power significantly in such a short explanation. Subscribed
So Cool, thank you for watching and for sharing that with me! That means a lot 🥊
So smart, my daughter’s coach teaches them to kick like this, for American Kickboxing. I used to always think why not the much more popular roundhouse, like everyone else in Hawaii does. This is why!
It’s great to hear that your daughter’s coach incorporates these techniques. The Dutch low kick can be highly effective in American Kickboxing, providing a different dynamic than the traditional roundhouse kick. It’s all about versatility and finding what works best in different situations. Tell your daughter to keep up the great training 🥊
Subscribed!
Thank you 🥊 excited to have you a part of the team
Nice,I train with high level fighters and will try
Thanks, Eug! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. As you may already know the Dutch kickboxing style is known for its aggressive and high-paced combinations. Trying something new against experienced opponents can be challenging, but it’s also one of the best ways to learn and improve. Let us know how it goes when you try out the Dutch style techniques! Keep up the great work.
That round house kick is scary to use. I'm Afraid of losing balance or slipping on sweat while throwing it😅
Haha, for sure, you’re not kidding. Even with lots of practice that sweat on the mat can still get you 😅
i think you tried to upload this video as short ! for information try to make it 1 min maximum to get short and good luck
You can upload “long” videos “short” style. I did that on purpose since it is a compilation of shorts 👍🏻
Garbage...
It's not better cause no ones doing it,and you need to train a lot more before U teach, practice,ur about a third of the way there
Hey Eug, I appreciate your thoughts. As an 8 time world champion across Pro Boxing, Pro Kickboxing and even karate. I’ve found that the Dutch style offers significant strategic advantages. It’s not about popularity; it’s about effectiveness. Continuous training is key, and I’m dedicated to constantly improving and sharing what works at the highest levels of competition. Thanks for your input!
Same stance that bum had when Poatan knocked him out... 🤔
Thanks for your comment. As an 8-time world champion, I’ve seen firsthand how every stance and style, including the Dutch 50/50, has its place and strengths in the ring. It’s about mastering and adapting techniques to suit individual fighters and situations. The Dutch style has proven itself time and again, and it’s about how well you use it that matters. Appreciate the conversation!
This is Steve fox stance from Tekken
Nice! Steve Fox's stance from Tekken does look similar. It's always fun to see how they incorporate real-world fighting techniques. Thanks for watching and for the comment!
Which boxing? Which thai style? There are many... not all are the same...
Hi Stephanie, great question! You’re right there are so many “Muay Femur, Muay Mat, Muay Khao, Muay Sok, Muay Tae & more”. I am talking about Western boxing and traditional Muay Thai. By traditional Muay Thai, I mean the classic style of Muay Thai that emphasizes powerful strikes with all parts of the body (fists, elbows, knees, and shins), clinch work, and a strong, balanced stance. It's the style commonly practiced and taught in Thailand. I am sure you already know this which is why you’re asking which one. The reality is that Dutch Kickboxing is a blend of both Boxing and Muay Thai. Thanks for watching and commenting 🥊
My favorite fighter is Gegard Mousasi, I train kickboxing and I like his Dutch style.
That’s awesome! Gegard Mousasi is a beast, and his Dutch kickboxing style is definitely something to admire. Keep training hard! 💪🥊 and thanks for watching and commenting
Dutch defense sounds like a chess move lol
Hey Arseniy, haha, it does sound like a strategic chess move! The Dutch defense is what you get when you combine Boxing punching power & foot speed with Muay Thai kicking power & clinching creating a highly effective fighting style. Thanks for watching and commenting! Have you ever tried Dutch Kickboxing? 🤔
Light'em up throw'em back!
🥊🥊🥊
How you keep your balance if a punch misses?
Nice question, your weight should stay centered on your feet so you should never be off-balance. More specifically your weight and balance should be where your heads at, try it and let me know what you think. Thank you for watching 🥊
this is similar to old school muay thai, its a good way to open up urself to being knocked out. thats why they dont use it in musy thai anymore
I totally understand what you are saying however anytime you throw a strike you open yourself up to being hit back (knocked out) that is why you set up all your strikes. Setup is not what we talked about here. I appreciate your response and that you watched and commented.
It's a good catch'n'counter strike esp for those having a harder time finding their reaching. And no need to overcommit if it's not necessary, could easily pull back
👍🏻👊🏻
I need to try this
You’re going to surprise them for sure 😎🥊
Haha
😅🥊
Wow, thanks never thought to incorporate the the hip rotation of my kicks into kness. Good shit
Thanks brotha! It will definitely add distance to your knee 🥊 Thanks for watching 👊🏻
