What a blatant whitewash, and spinning the issue. 80% of the homeless are young druggies with no desire to work or be moved to congregate housing. Maui allows illegal camping and fires on public and private property with no consequences. The homeless are allowed to negatively impact the vast majority of other residents.

The Ways and Means committee is going to take up SB3381 which lays out plans for State to take over management of the redevelopment of much of the Westside. Hopefully this testimony dissuades the Senate from taking the future out of Maui hands and placing it (for critical first 2 years) in hands of State appointed commissars and the Oahu focused HCDA

I thought that the council was going to meet with FEMA and army, core of engineers, etc. for three hours from 9 to 12 on January 4th.. that is all what you decided at the meeting on Tuesday?..to ask more questions to them before making this decision? Remember what the man said was that you needed to slow down, the expert told you that you needed to get the toxic debris put into burritos right away that whatever you decide shouldn’t stop you from cleaning it up though.. Why can’t they have gotten started long ago on putting the debris in burritos and getting the toxic debris off of the ground? Are you going to be starting on that right away? The cleanup needs to start right away so that these people can get back on their land? I think the burritos should’ve been started by now.. maybe put the burritos in a container on each of the properties until you are ready to put them in a temporary disposal site? Of course, while you’re at it..begin talking with the families that lost their loved ones and and make a decision on where they think the remains with more than likely be, and set those aside in burritos as well, so that memorials can be started!
