@TwistedMacGyversTrains very true frank but i been told my whole life good things come to those who wait and that is true i waited about over a year for my VL BB 4014 and this legacy remote as well the remote set but i would keep my eye out at trainz because ebay prices are really stupid they mostly price gouging there but youll find one my friend 👍

Thanks brian and i do have duracell rechargeable batteries but i downloaded the online manual but it didnt say if i could use those or not and yeah i saw that charger switch just hope i figure out how to connect it to my base 3

Gotcha, I would imagine that those batteries should be ok.

@@naxshack yeah i checked the online manual but it didnt say otherwise but ive only seen duracell and energizer make rechargeable batteries but i may just use standard ones and i believe ill learn the remote easily but if i have any questions ill shoot ya a email

Thanks frank and i cant wait to get my cab 2 remote in the cab 3 app is ok and all but ive always been a more remote guy and you have to deal with all that network stuff with the app and its just a hassle for me and brian speaks very highly of it just wish lionel would start back making those again

Yes its the 990 set with 991 remote and 992 base its almost complete and the cab 3 app is nice but i much prefer the remote over a app and csx always had beautiful diesel engines and the remote is coming from trainz but with the snow we have it may be over a week before it comes in unless georgia has no snow 😊

Awesome Brandon!! You will love the 990 set!! No network stuff to deal with, just direct connection to a remote power supply and the tracks, and the remote is fantastic and much more user friendly with regards to accessing the legacy functions. I have mine connected to my MTH TIU. A Lionel Powerhouse 180 brick powers the setup, but you should be able to use your CW-80 for power. Let me know if you need help setting it up. I have an email posted in my channel description, but I rarely check it. Just let me know in the comments here, if you sent me anything and I will check and respond. Also to program newer Lionel locos, you’ll also need a Lionel LCS sensor track and cable to connect from the track to the 992 base. The older Lionel locos came with an orange programming module that would plug into the remote for programming, but all the newer Bluetooth models require the use of the LCS programming track.

@@naxshackok cools and i have my email in my channel description as well and the cab 2 should connect to base 3 without any issues but ima have to play with it to learn it but is it hard to use a remote with mth trains on set up etc?

Regarding the MTH setup, it’s not much different than the Lionel command systems. The only real difference when using the two systems together, is the MTH TIU(track interface unit) powers the track, instead of the Lionel system. I have four Lionel power house bricks feeding into the four inputs of the TIU, and the four outputs go to the tracks. The 990 gets a single wire tied from the binding post of the base, and goes over to the black terminals on the output of the MTH TIU. MTH uses the connection from the TIU to the rails to transmit the command signals to the loco, and Lionel uses a wireless system to communicate directly to the loco. I have a new MTH WTIU, but like the Lionel base3, it relies heavily on network connections and the use of a mobile device to control the trains, which I don’t like. They’re working on a setup to allow for the older handheld remote to be used with it, but it’s not out yet. If you were going to add MTH locos and control to your collection, I would highly recommend finding an older TIU complete system versus the new WTIU. No network stuff to deal with and you get a wireless remote , which is a similar system to the Lionel 990 setup.

@@naxshackthat sounds complicated with mth and if i get their trains i think id just rather run them on a transformer by itself and all that network and wifi stuff is the reason why i bought that lionel cab 2 remote because the app dont do all that what the legacy cab 2 does from what i e seen and im more of a remote control guy 😂 bit thanks for sharing brian

@@joeystrains.9316 Yes sir i like it alot it runs flawlessly for a 2002 model i wanted the modern legacy model but this one had a good price of $617 from trainz and i just couldnt pass it up

@@Keith-nm3uf it uses four AA batteries and theres a screw on the cab area you loosen up and the cover will move up and theres a tray that slides back towards you thats where the batteries will go at and on the smoke area you have to use water from your faucet and it comes with a small bottle you can fill up and you have to use about 8 drops

Thanks frank i like the whistle sound on it but the traction tires kept slipping off so now i have to replace those with tighter ones but with it being 22 years old i guess over time they dissenagrated i dunno
