Retro Gaz Plays - Android Assault on Sega Mega CD
Android Assault - The Revenge of Bari-Arm is a Sega CD title released in Japan and America. This is the American version, which was released in 1994. It's a fun shoot-em up that didn't get great reviews due to not being what was expected from CD-based console at the time. It was also a little easy but it's my sort of game and not too taxing (does that make me sound old...?).
As with the other Sega Mega CD videos, this was played on my original machine, and output, via composite, to a RetroTINK 2X line-doubler. The video was captured on an Elgato HD60 Pro with no post-production changes made.

Retro Gaz Plays - Lords of Thunder on Sega Mega CD

A quick play on the impressive version of Lords of Thunder on the Sega Mega CD. Released in 1995 (2 years after the PC Engine TurboDuo version), it not have been quite a polished as the original, it was still a great title on a platform that struggled a bit for quality titles. This is played on my original Mega CD 1 and output, via composite, to a RetroTINK 2X and recorded on an Elgato HD60 Pro.

Another gameplay video from the Sega Mega CD. This one is Panic! by Sega and published by Data East in the USA (we never had a release in Europe). It's described as a 'point and click puzzle game' and was one of the few games that worked with the Sega Mouse. A version was also released on the Sony PS2 in Japan, where it went by the Japanese title 'Switch'. The game is played on an original Mega...

In this video I'm playing a number of Commodore VIC-20 from back in the 80s when the machine was active. There is a bit of a shoot-em up theme and some of these games a pretty tough (or maybe I'm not a good as I used to be when I was younger, hehe). As with most of my gameplay videos, these were played on my 'real' VIC-20 and then output, via composite, to a RetroTINK 2X and then captured into ...
Retro Gaz Plays - Arukanoido (wip) on Commodore VIC-20

Arukanoido is a great version of Taito's Arkanoid on Commdore's VIC-20 home computer. Although this is an early WIP version, it is still very playable. The footage is taken from a real VIC-20, outputting via composite to a RetroTINK 2X, and the captured on an Elgato HD60 Pro.

Hi, today I'm playing Audiogenic's Outworld on the Commodore Vic-20. This title, released in 1981, this game is cross between Asteroids and Missile Command. The game was played on a real Commodore VIC-20, outputting a composite video signal into a RetroTINK 2x using the smoothed function.
Retro Gaz Plays - AtariBlast! on Atari 800XL

A play-through of the first four levels of the impressive freeware game released in 2016 and programmed by Paul Lay. This version is the 2nd one with the various C64 tunes converted to the Pokey chip. This is an impressive shoot-em up with each level based on popular games from the past (R-Type, Xevious, Zaxxon) and the enemies consist of items from both Atari games as well as classic arcades s...

Another of my favourite games on the Atari 8-bit computer. Although we never had a UK release of the game (we found other ways to get it back in day), it is a very colourful and fun game. It was a shame it didn't make it officially as we did get other popular titles such as Fort Apocalypse, Alley Cat, and, Blue Max The game was played on an original Atari 800XL, connected via scart, to a RetroT...

Rescue on Fractalus was one of four games that were produced by Lucasfilm Games and where the first titles released by the group back in 1985. I have always enjoyed the games (Ball Blazer, Rescue on Fractalus, The Eidolon, and Kronis Rift) as they had a level of quality that was higher than many of the games released at the time. Rescue on Fractalus was also the first game that genuinely gave m...
Retro Gaz Plays - Choujin Heiki Zeroigar English Translation (NEC PC FX Test Capture)

This is a test capture from my latest console, the NEC PC-FX. The video contains the only shoot-em up on the PC-FX, Chouji Heiki Zeroigar, and this is an english translated version. This is both the first time I had powered on the console and the first time I'd played the game. The console was using composite video though a RetroTINK 2x and then captured on an Elgato HD60 Pro. Next in my Colecovision gameplay videos is Bally Midway's multi-level space shooter. Like many of the ports, this version doesn't include the Galaxian level due to Namco holding the copyright. Nice! Has anyone put Mario Bros on the Vic-20? I've heard it was planned to come out, but didn't due to the dwindling market.
Unfortunately not. It's a shame that a homebrew version wasn't created but it's always risky making a game featuring Mario.
@NorwichRetro Ah, yeah, that's true, any fan project always gets the death by DMCA!
@NorwichRetro Ah, yeah, that's true, I guess no one wants to get in trouble, but those projects almost always get DMCA by the lawyers 😒
Never had a Coleco Vision as a kid, I had the Atari VCS and later MSX computer as well as a Spectrum at the time. I recognise many of these games from both the Atari VCS and MSX. The VCS versions perhaps not quite as nice but still very playable. Adored Time Pilot and was always playing that although I think that was later on the C64, a clone version called Space Pilot I think
I remember seeing a Colecovision in our local Debenhams and it was running Donkey Kong. I had a Voltmace Database at the time so the Colecovision looked almost arcade perfect. It wasn't until much later that I finally got the console and apart from the controller being a bit cumbersome, it is a nice machine. I think the modern 'homebrew' titles are really impressive.
@@NorwichRetro I do remember the Voltmace Database, I saw many adverts for it as a budget console choice. They were amazing times, the birth of gaming really and just seemed so exciting. In Yeovil we had a store called Denners which sold the Colecovision and saw it but never played on it. I later learned it had the same graphics processor as so many other computers and consoles like the MSX, the Memotech MTX, Einstein, Spectravideo SV318 and I think an early Sega console or home computer. Also the Texas TI99/4A is I remember rightly. Most also had a Z80A processor except the Texas of course. At the time I was always buying home computers that came my way cheap.
It was definitely a cheap alternative, which is probably why my parents bought it. We had a passable version of Space Invaders and a shooting gallery game, and being able to play games at home was a big plus (although I could only use a 14" black and white tv). It wasn't until I left school and worked in a games shop that I really had a better choice.
It's amazing, because i was born in the early summer of 1983, and i have seen the Philips CD-i games for the first time on a finnish 🇫🇮 TV back in 1994. I did see some CD-i games once at a former flea market in Espoo, Finland 🇫🇮, but never bought them. Also, i have to admit, that i have never seen the original hardwares of the Philips CD-i console. Not... even... once! PLUNDERBALL looks cool. It reminds me of TIME SCANNER on the Commodore 64 and Amiga 500. Also, you played retrospectively excellent 😺👍🕹️. A big retrospective like 👍🕹️ from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.
Thanks. I try to share games that are a little obscure. Glad you enjoyed the video. I've got another video coming up that covers many more CDI titles.
Wow! Just Wow! What a collection of memories right there.
Cheers 😀
Nice Video ! Sub & Big Like ! And Love Retro Sega Games !
Doesn't seem very busy... It makes you wonder how they stay open... unless of course it's a front for something else?
I think it's long gone. My visit was 17 years ago (wow, it was really that long).
Cheers 😊
Nice move at 2:38. I’ve always loved this game NEVER knew the apples acted as barriers, geez! 🙈
This is another brilliant example of games Saturn is better at playing than PS1. I rented the latter back in the day and it looked great but it didn’t run, it crawled.
The Saturn was made for games like that. People may have complained that it was weaker at 3D games but for 2D it really shone.
This port seems to play awesomely well.
I'd only played the 3DO version back in the day, so this one feels really smooth.
I had a pretty good Atari 800XL setup back in the mid 80s. I had the 800XL, the 1050 and a 1010, I also had the Atari Trackball and a few joysticks. I had a large disk, tape and cartridge collection and I sold them to fund the purchase of a Commodore 128......It was probably the biggest mistake I ever made with regards to a computer purchase as I never had anywhere near asmuch fun with the Commodore as I had with the Atari.
I know what you mean. Many computers and consoles came and went but the 800XL was the only one I held onto. Even after all these years, I still enjoy the classic titles and with homebrew games being released each year, there is always something new to be try.
Cool. Though it was different
In a good way?
I used to love Time Pilot back in the day and would always look for a home computer conversion of it on any computer I owned. I seem to remember there was some good versions on the C64 and BBC B. Great times.
Space Pilot on the BBC Micro was a great version. I've also played a homebrew version on the Atari XL, which is great although the sprites are a bit too chunky.
I use to play all these games when I was kid
Great skills bud 👊
Cheers mate, I really like that game 😀👍
Absolutely love my Atari 800xl it's such a good computer, the games are awesome.
Although it was my first 'real' home computer I owned, it's still the one I always go back to. Playing these games for the videos was great fun and brought back some nice memories. I have two more Atari videos waiting to be released.
Isn’t this the origin of the polybius game? How has this not been seen by more people?
It might just be that fabled game.
It was cool to use a game controller like PS4 controller or nintendo switch pro controller connected to Commodore PET
Can Commodore "2001" series accept linux?
Hi Jelena, I'm not aware of a version of Linux that was coded for the PET hardware. The C64 has a version of Ubuntu and Commodore OS was a flavour of Linux released for Commodore machines (pcs I think).
Where's the Donkey Kong-like game in the thumbnail? I don't see it in the video (click-bait?)
Hi, it was supposed to be a teaser but the game never arrived. Such a shame really, if they had used machine code it might have worked out.
@@NorwichRetro Bummer. Some pretty impressive use of PETSCII graphics here regardless.
6:51 I don't know if this game has in it or you could code it. Hold down the SHIFT key to move 2-spaces left or right instead of just one at a time.
Space Ace pilot looks good
Hi Gary, nice video! Fascinating to hear about the recent journey of Norwich Retro Gamers. All the best 👍 Frosty

This is when Arcades used to be really good. No robbing ticket games.
as you have to pay to get in, do you need to pay to use the games?
No, once you've paid for you wristband it's free play on all games.
are all these raspberry pis running mame or jamma boards?
Raspberry Pi's? Ouch.. 😊 No, they are all original boards, some are Jamma of course.
😂😂
looks great, Cant wait to visit.
Definetly worth a visit, plenty of choice and some real classics. They have had some additions since that video was shot. I think I need to practice my Mr DO! highscore.

What's with the donkey kong in the title picture? Can I haz more information?
Unfortunately it was a 'proof of concept' but never moved past the teaser screens.
@@NorwichRetro Oh nooooo!!!!!
Wait, did the toy company Leapfrog made this game console? That pretty new for me...
Did this place manage to survive the pandemic?
Thankfully, yes. Infact, it has managed to include more cabinets and has moved into a single-floor unit just across from the original location. Can't wait to visit it again soon.
@@NorwichRetro any plans to get some pinball tables put in? Iron Maiden do a really amazing one with lights and sound effects it would certainly fit in with the rest of the 80's vibe you're going for.
@@Fireglo There was an Pacman Pinball in there. The problem with Pinball tables is, no matter how awesome they are, they take up space and can be a challenge to maintain.
considering the limitations of the PET the games looks nice, RUSH got even a kind of parallax scrolling. wow!
It is impressive that people are still designing games for such an old machine but what they are getting out of the PET is truly amazing.
Awesome! Pet was the first computer we had in school. It’s what drove my love of computer’s.
We also had Pet's at our high school and was taught BASIC on them. We had a couple of educational 'games' on them but I never realised how much fun they could be for playing games.

Hi Matt, thanks for watching and for adding the running times. 👍
Looks cool. Even before or during COVID, whenever I've been in an arcade or a games expo, I''ve always carried hand sanitiser with me and so when I've broken off for lunch or even a few minutes downtime outside, I'll wash my hands just before, and I'm good to go... although I wash my hands after I've just been :)
Gary, I have been documenting the program for this game, and have made numerous visits to look at this. It has been a great reference, thank you. Did you ever see a snake on the yellow median?
Unfortunately not but I never played it for long. Now I have found the cart again I'll have to play it more.
Some nice gear there. Thanks for sharing 😁😉
Cheers Steve. It's taken 25 years to reach this point and in another 25 years I'll still be adding to it. It will probably fill two rooms by then. 😉👍
I had this console and this game, really enjoyed it.
Liofa. It was one of the better games on the console. The sound, although quite annoying, did create a sense of panic as the creatures started chasing you.
Still a great arcade ten years on.
T'was an excellent port of Frogger. I had this machine (both the original Waddingtons Videomaster version and then later Voltmace branded version) and this was one of the best games in the library. I now have several consoles (in various states of repair) and a good collection of cartridges (again in various states from almost mint to 'bargain bin'). Munch & Crunch is also up there in my childhood memories!
Pong and Computer Space are great historical pieces as far as games they're extremely dated.
1:05 nostalgia!!! holy cow!!! :'D i used to go to a holiday camp and by the entrance they had a ddr3 machine, it used to play that song every time i went in!!!!!!!!!! i loved that place (sadness)
I was in Thomas's arcade a couple of years ago and it wasn't bad. As modern arcades go, the ratio between actual videogames and penny pushers/crane machines was decent. Worth checking out if you are nearby.
OMG. I programmed that game for Voltmace! I never thought I would see that again!
Did you know Roger Brookes? And why was this system cancelled? Wasn't due to copyright? Also I wish I had bought the ten sealed consoles for £30 when offered them by the company in 1985 ish
