Why YouTubers Might Be the Future of Game Development

#ubisoft #assassinscreed #gamedev In the midst of a wide variety of AAA issues plaguing the gaming industry, Ubisoft's Assassins Creed Shadows being one of the most recent, I wanted to touch on some projects that are coming from none other, than youtubers themselves. Now, these will by no means replace AAA games, they are indie dev games, but it is great to see those who've been in the space fo...

    Imo the problem with 2042 was the shooting mechanics. No one wants to play a shooting game where the bullets don’t go where you requested. Spray pattern >>>> random spread And the servers were terrible.

    • @scrimgaming

      That’s pretty much how I feel about valorant haha never played a game where any auto fire resulted in a literal circle of spread. Really hoping the next installment brings it back.

    Spectre Divide looks like an awful lot of DEI especially the screen at 14:09, to me everything screems hard pass, well being an online shooter there´s no chance I would play it anyhow.

    • @scrimgaming
      @scrimgaming 7 днів тому

      I think I might know what you mean by DEI? Could be wrong though. Overall, its a solid game IF you enjoy games like Valorant. It's the same exact gameplay loop with the same TTK mechanics. I don't personally enjoy it myself but at least it's not poorly made.

      @@scrimgaming DEI (aka Didn´t Earned It/ Doesn´t Earn Income) is stuff like: pushing "strong women" everyone being people of color and if they´re white they get wimped or a mask on like in this case. The art style is a typical DEI style and just that will put gamers of in droves while not even being the biggest problem: ANOTHER ONLINE HERO SHOOTER? Who you want to steal players from? Fortnite, Overwatch, Valorant, CoD maybe? Noone is asking for another Hero Shooter and who is playing those games won´t quit and who isn´t will never play those games. Shroud should detach his name from that game unless he wants to be linked to a massive fail because that´s what this game is going to end up as. There is no new or modern audience for hero shooters and at this point they won´t convice anyone to quit the one they´re playing for years already, the hero shooters for this year are also failing for that simple reason: the total market is reached and the few new players will join the already popular games.

      Ahhh ok I thought it was like “diversity, exclusivity, and inclusion” lol similar vein I guess. Yeah I mean, those games already have such established players bases and competitive scenes it’s really tough to establish yourself In the space. Fragpunk was in beta recently and I actually really enjoyed that game a lot but it’s definitely unique in comparison to the “hyper-skilled” formula games like valorant and counter strike follow. Spectre isn my cup of tea personally but i guess it remains to be seen where it goes. Hard to climb to the foothold the others in its space already have for sure.

      @@scrimgaming DEI does mean Diversity, Equity Inclusion leading to Didn´t Earned It hires resulting into Doesn´t Earn Income products 😂 It´s also not my cup of tea but according to many different UA-camrs who have good oversight (looking at data and their comment section) Hero Shooter alone is putting gamers of now. The other projects with more direct involvement seem very promising despite I don´t play online shooters anymore and that seems the focus to be, it looks like someone who really loves those type of game is leading the team. I´ve played those type for years and the others look like having a more clear and explicit direction suited for online shooters.

    Tbh BF1 is probably one of THE greatest Battlefield games ever made. Gunplay was amazing, maps were beautifully haunting, campaign was great. I understand when people dont like bolt action rifles and Mark 4 tanks and biplanes, but the game was objectively the FPS game of 2016, it blew CoD:IW out of the water. So about battle royale, I am of the belief that BF shouldn't do one UNLESS its on the level of Warzone 1, which, imo, is the best BR created.

    • @scrimgaming
      @scrimgaming 23 дні тому

      BF1 was a great game no argument there. For me, just not gonna be able to get behind a historical way game at this stage of the game. They need to come correct in a modern setting. A BR in battlefield could be a lot of fun. They did it with firestorm but only barely and it was an era shooter. The tech behind battlefield with the scale in a modern world could be amazing. I don’t think Warzone could touch it.

    Everyone misses the mark on the 128 players. Map design didn't need to change at all. maybe just error slightly on mostly maps being 10 percent larger. The actual problem is communication and group play. SLAP the hell let loose comms in the game. reward players for using it. Problem solved.

    Def wont be their last chance, people buy every single COD. Honestly, the main reason 2042 failed was because of the operators, and bloom. Bf5 was also really good, people just didnt give it a chance, it was effectivly just 1, but in ww2. Also, i couldnt tell if you were hating on battlefield 1 or not, but incase you were i assume its just because you said you dont like games that arent modern, but BF1 is the most popular BF of all time, it was also the most bought and highest rated.

    After 10+ hours of this VERY early access game, I'd say this: "Is it worth bying ?" - I don't know. "Is it worth waiting for to be fully developped ?" - Oh definitlly ! "Is it worth supporting ?" - 1000% YES ! More specifically : I've had a run that made me fall in love with the game forever. The map was quiet, calm, no battle, only a bunch of cyborg zombies and yet my heart started beating fast ! I was alone, in the middle of an ash covered battlefield, looking for an enemy that never came and I felt what I think I would never feel again... a mix of fascination and fear while admiring a world that was both terrifying yet beautiful. I've never felt that way since I first played Resident Evil Zero for the first time when I was a young teenager. So, to the developpers: I don't care that the game isn't finished yet, I don't mind if I have to play it with graphic settings that make it look like a late 2000s game, I don't even care dying because my caracter bumped on a weird unoptimised surface. My final ratting is THANK YOU. I don't blame the critics, and should you not. I just feel sorry that some people forgot what video games used to be about... But I remember and I'm already having a hell of a good time !

    We should give developers more time to update the game. Star citizen devs start laughing yep we need more time(12 years) and budget bro. Just give us more money(700 milion). I like forever winter game loop though. If they didn't change anything i would still play it it's fun for me. It's buggy , there is one map that like 30% of time i die because of game crash, but it's still fun for me. I agree thought that early access is more miss then hit and you should rarely make the decision to buy games in this state.

    • @scrimgaming
      @scrimgaming 29 днів тому

      Sure thing and that’s fine. If people enjoy it then great that’s what matters but like said, if we are talking big picture, more time, better practices are needed all around. The current model doesn’t work.

  • @matiasemanninen
    @matiasemanninen 29 днів тому

    The forever winter in early access is for the fanbase, not for the guys who whine on the internet about indie games being early access. They very clearly clarifies It's very early access and the price is just to support the devs (the studio has like only 30 people working the game). Meaning you don't have to buy it if you don't want to. Plus they mentioned there's gonna be a demo coming in October where you can decide whether you want to buy the game or not in that state. I get that other studios have misused the early access idea as a whole. The core idea is to get feedback from a bigger audience of the fanbase which were not in closed testing like myself. It's so braindead demand the devs to pay beta testers when considering the studio of this size. You're oversimplifying the early access as a whole to fit your narrative. You can buy a fully finished game when It comes out of early access. It's that easy. Lastly I do want to specify that the early access method is best to be applied to very small studios or singular indie devs. I agree on the part that "AAA" or "AA" studios are not really the target audience using early access to release their games though. Thumbs down :( Bad video.

    • @scrimgaming
      @scrimgaming 29 днів тому

      That’s awesome. A 30$ demo. They should have released that first like devs used to do remember ? Before charging anything for the game? Seems like a solid plan. Maybe they’ll have a two to three year road map like Gray Zone does too. Or just stay in beta early access for 9 years like Tarkov. So many possibilities and loop holes around actually completing a product and internally testing it until it’s ready.

    • @matiasemanninen
      @matiasemanninen 27 днів тому

      @@scrimgaming The upcoming demo is free. The game currently in early access is not. If you don't want to support the devs by purchasing the game while It's early access, It's totally fine. There's upcoming demo is for that if someone wanna try the game and then decide whether to buy it or not. Bro like, no one is forcing you to buy a unfinished product. And It's fun to speculate what's to come, but you and me don't know what's the future of The Forever Winter and Fun studios. If their word to be believed (about being AAA veterans, also being in the industry for decades, and forming up their own studio to avoid big investors' influence and other internal management for artistic freedom), me personally I'm going to be supporting the game and see where It's going. You don't seem to get a lot of watchtime with these havely opinionated views about topics and the tone you're putting. This is not interesting, you sound like the guys who make very hardcore anti-woke videos. you only attract the people who already agree with you. You didn't bring any nuance views or any interesting ideas. According to the video and the responses you made in the comments are kinda unprofessional. The tone is very childish and unmature. I get that if you feel to defend your opinions (with random people on the internet), but if your channel gets bigger, you gonna attract people who behave like you. Well, take care!

    • @scrimgaming
      @scrimgaming 27 днів тому

      At this point I don’t give a shit about the game or who likes and who doesn’t. The point is early access is overall and generally speaking a plague. It doesn’t have anything to do with the forever winter specifically. The same studio that brought the fraud that was the day before is doing it all over again. Case in point of the video. I don’t give a damn about this one single game. And idc what your opinion of my channel is, nor do I care to cater toward anyone else’s opinion as my channel gets bigger. Everyone always has something to say about content creation when they’ve never made nor do they actively make content in any way. My watch time is fine. Well above half way to partner actually. My views are only growing. Idc if one video post pisses people off lol what you and everyone else fails to realize is that it’s doing exactly what it needs to do. Drive engagement. The comments and tone aren’t unprofessional or childish at all. It’s a widely held sentiment around the gaming industry for people who aren’t brainwashed into being delivered a half baked sub par product from idie devs or AAA studios alike. We aren’t going to agree and I don’t care. You don’t have to be a viewer or a sub and I’ll do just fine without you. Just like I don’t have to buy or support the game. And it’ll be just fine because of people like you.

    It's a matter of expectation. If I'm buying an early access game that's honest about what it is, then that's valid. Games like Prodeus, Factorio, GTFO, Zomboid, Starsector...These games have had long and well-managed early access periods and turned out successful. Rushing broken garbage has been an common behavior in this industry far longer than Steam Greenlight scams or Kickstarter bait-and-switches anyway.

    You say that TFW is a trash, buggy game and say how indie development isn't an excuse for its quality and say that as long as they've got enough time, people, etc. However, you are disregarding the time aspect of TFW, the devs didn't even want to release the game as a public EA, it was the players who pushed the devs to doing so, so while sure the devs are able to fund more things and have better developments considering they have more money, it was the players who pushed for that aspect despite how there wasn't enough time put into the game. And why did the players want the game? Cause they were interested in it, in the story, the worldbuilding, the gameplay; the game is a niche, and the people who wanted and enjoy the game are apart of that niche. I saw a random video by a guy named "Riloe" and his video got me invested in the game because I fell into the niche that the game was for; If I was simply only interested in being a sweatfest competitive jackass then I wouldn't be interested in TFW but interested in something like COD, but like many others there was an interest in this game, therefore a demand for it. We've seen time and time again successful games from indie studios and they most likely don't strike a mainstream cord but still captivate players because of the niche of the game, and the niche that the players have, with both niches fitting together. An example could be Ultrakill, it doesn't fall into a lot of other categories of other games as it's singleplayer, mostly linear, full of player expression, and has no PvP, and is finally an EA game, but still saw success because Hakita, the main developer, has used his time to make the game in its beloved state, but then taking TFW, a game that clearly needed more time, there's shame brought upon it despite players wanting it to be released anyways People will definitely say that fanboys bring a warped perspective of games; some fanboy might hype a game like cruelty squad to others, which means that if people try it out they might just quit because it was different than what that fanboy said about that game, however fanboys are great and free marketing for games because it comes from people who truly care and are interested in the niche the game provides. Do you think your subscribers are fanboys of your channel and actually care, or do you think that they just hit the button because "oh this guy has opinions and I agree with those opinions"? But thats just food for thought.

    • @scrimgaming
      @scrimgaming 29 днів тому

      I gotta give it to you guys man the length of some of these comments is really making me work for it. If the players are the ones pushing the games too early in the cycle then they are just as to blame. That stems from a deeper rooted problem that instant access and consumerism has infected us all with. No one is willing to wait, the devs take advantage of that , we complain , continue to play and pay , the get shit on , close, come back times and repeat it’s not a one factored deal I get that.

  • @Silencewalker
    @Silencewalker 29 днів тому

    Actually, there is little bit more to it. Not only "Early Access" games often lack foundational elements that long have been figured out across the industry. The "Vision" behind these games doesn't convey or encompass the progression loop for players. It's all about a functional core loop at hand and the "amazing potential" a game would have in three years down the line. The "Vision" never explains why the game will remain fun and captivating after 100 hours of playtime. We just have to wait and see how this all will come together one day. Eventually. Maybe.

    Its crazy how right you are and how angry stupid people are about it. These studios keep putting out these long ass flashy short films for their games that look like they took months to animate, then a 10 minute "gameplay" demo to show off the year worth of work they put into making the most detailed maps and models you've ever seen, just to have absolutely nothing going for the actual gameplay. Its just a marketing strategy to get people to think the game is going to look and feel and play really well, because it already looks really good, then they take your money and run. I just assume at this point that when a game comes out in early access with high requirements and crazy graphics, its a scam. Wild how many people are blind to that still, after every game to do this since no mans sky has been trash

People just flat out dont realize they are being sold a car with three tires, being told "we'll get the 4th one later." and are just ok with it. Its truly sad that they dont understand all the devs have to do is FINISH the damn game. Like thats literally it. Everyone understands games have to be patched an tweaked. Thats not the same thing as a game that is only 20% completed coming to market. Thats just what people have come to accept as normal tho. Its a shame.

I can see why indie devs really benefit because they don't have a huge publisher or capital to sit on while they build the game. I don't really have a problem with indie devs doing it so much, but I bought 76(for 20 bucks the day after release) and it was totally broken with nothing to do. it's just now at the the point it should've been released.

  • @RAGEINGChiken

    There is a lot here that is right, and a lot of stuff here that just is flat out incorrect. EA is not at fault for shitty development. Shitty development has always existed. BF has never EVER released working. BF 3 was a broken mess, BFBC2 was a broken mess. COD since COD2 has always released buggy and all COD games since MW have just been a rehash of MW. The shooter genera has been dealing with this since it went viral. Do AAA publishers abuse EA? Hell yes! That is plain to see, but EA has helped launch thousands of amazing indie games that never would have been made compared to the few dozen AAA abuses out there, EA is not the problem its gamers, who buy EA games from AAA publishers and then spend in game money for different looking pixels. Want change then its time we start holding gamers accountable and calling out and shaming gamers who spend money stupidly and encourage this shitty market. Nothing and I mean NOTHING in gaming has become main stay without gamers accepting it by buying it. From Pre-Orders to Loot boxes, to Microtransaction stores, to pay to win models. Every one of these things is currently main stay because, the majority, not a few, but the majority of gamers, content creators and games journalists shell out insane amounts of money on broken games and garbage skins and then post on Social Media sites the things they bought, either through videos, streaming or screen shots. Gamers made this market, and it is so ingrained in the culture now, people don't see anything wrong with spending 100 bucks to make pixels on a screen look different then normal. Something that is objectively stupid and a waste of money.

      I sort of wanted to argue against "the majority of gamers" part, but it differs depending on the business model. Pre-Orders and Pre-Order bonuses/exclusives area cancer and people need to stop buying those. Microtransactions are also a cancer since so many games abuse this model, but it gets supported anyways. Loot boxes only needs a few whales and content creators to be profitable, that's the only place where I would argue that it is "the few" that make this an on going issue.

    A classic tale of mega companies milking the customer for their money. I think the Early Access model might have lost its way, evolving into a scam type system. At what point should the gaming community hold developers accountable for delivering more finished products upfront? Do you think we’re risking potentially stifling creativity by pushing for perfection too early in the process?

      @@scrimgaming That's essentially what Early Access is about. It's at that state where it's more or less playable but not finished. It's unoptimized, the fundamentals of the game aren't set in stone and it's buggy. Yes, it's more or less a demo - Early Access does not mean "Fully polished and optimized game with maybe a bug or two." It's a disconnect with some players that they see early access and equate that with "Full game release just early!" then get mad about the game being in a barely playable state. No kidding, it's 'early' access. Yes, some indie/small studios release it with the goal of getting feedback over what works, what doesnt, what people like, what people don't as well as other metrics that you can never get with a small test team or by having to fork out money for external play testing that never measures up to the feedback a wide release gives. Not to mention that injection of cash allows those studios to hire additional artists, devs or whatever to also work on the game if that's what they need. It's transactional. Players get to see and play the game as it's being shaped, the studio gets the feedback and some funds early to invest into the game development. The way it's painted by those that just see 'early access' as another steam tag is that the devs are just pushing something out for a cash grab and then bailing. The vast majority of early access releases have not been that way. Satisfactory, Prison Architect, Kerbal Space Program and PUBG are all titles that have come out of early access release. All with varying states of playability. That all said - A large AAA studio shouldn't be doing early access releases. Indie and small studios absolutely due to the limitation of resources they have and the risk they're taking. If a fundamental part of a game isn't received well during early access, it's better for a smaller studio for it be picked up and redone than if they had only realized after a full release. Talking strictly about indie and small studios - They're generally very upfront about what they're giving out and why. It's purely down to the motivation behind the early access release. "Is it a blatant cash grab and they're going to bail?" or is it "They believe in the game and want to get as much feedback as they can while they're still in the development cycle."

    • @scrimgaming
      @scrimgaming Місяць тому

      I can see your side of it and there is merit in that mentality and practice. My personal stance on it is still firmly rooted in gamers (broadly speaking) having become too accustomed to the practice. I understand completely the logic and rational of it. But just because a group of people can make a game doesn’t mean they should. They certainly should ask money for it. The practice make sense on paper but it’s permeated so far and wide that nearly every game I see a trailer for now, especially shooters at least, is an early access game. It’s a bit too “carry us to the finish line” for my taste. You used to go to the store and buy a game. Maybe it was bad maybe it was good but it was done. And that was it. The game did well or it didn’t. Maybe there was a beta phase maybe not. Now, anyone with a desktop and unreal engine can be a “game developer”. I’m dumbing that down because there are genuinely skilled and passionate teams all over the place but for me, again, it’s a matter of execution. Good points though.
