Bea's Furniture Flips
Приєднався 19 січ 2022
Hello! My name is Bea and I've started my journey of upcycling furniture in late 2020. I have always loved recycling and upcycling, and I've found my real interest in furniture upcycling and renovation. I simply love to see how an old piece turns into a modern one, saving them from the landfill. At the moment it's a part-time passion for me, but I'm working on turning it into a full-time love. I'm hoping to open my own shop one day, but until then, I'm selling my pieces online. I'm still a beginner, but I love experimenting and learning new techniques. Follow me on my journey :) Bea

@@kimadams446 Thank you so much 🥰🥰🥰
I would have tested it on scrapwood first. And waited a long time for the long term effect.
@@jackieostrander9667 That’s a very wise idea! I’m not really a tester, I’m usually a ‘let’s do it and we’ll deal with the consequences later’ person 🤣 It’s been in my garage for over a month now and so far it’s going strong 💪 ☺️
Nice job
@@patbolstad3701 Thank you so much 🥰🥰
Going to try to do this with an old aquarium stand! Great ideas!
@@buttonsjunior1131 Thank you 🥰 Sounds great! Let me know how it goes 😁
So beautiful…just the right color for it….
@@alyb8058 Thank you so much! I love it too! 😍 I’m a bit scared of colours but this one was soo pretty 😍🥰🥰
I think that it looks incredible….❤…. soy sauce has to be boiled before staining i think…. I remember reading somewhere about it…. I also want to share the wonderful way to paint without brush strokes I found out about recently…. First paint with the brush and then roll with the roller…. It should be done in small accruements like staining and wiping…. Looks amazing, as if it’s a factory painted…. It’s also recommended to wipe paint from the roller after awhile….
@@alyb8058 Thank you so much! 🥰🥰 I didn’t know about that of the soy sauce, I will look into it. It does seem like a very interesting topic, I like to learn more about it 😍 I am just starting to get used to the brush and roller combination too, I fully agree that it leaves such a beautiful factory-like finish! I find that roller sometimes leaves so many bubbles when you use it on its own, but didn’t figure out why. Do you have any tip for that? ☺️
Very pretty as long as it’s the blue-gray color. Some shots show a bright blue. In the beginning I thought you were painting it gray.
@@leavesongrass thank you 🥰 it’s not bright blue, it’s a blue-grey colour ☺️ I find it difficult to capture the true colours of the pieces 🙈
Question, is it absolutely necessary to clean the furniture if you’re going to sand it down anyway? New to this, so genuinely asking.
@@luisb9387 Really good question! 😍 Yes, it’s highly recommended, because if you don’t clean it, then when you are sanding, all the sanding dust will get clogged up on the sandpaper. If it’s clogged up, then it will not sand properly, the sanding will leave swirl marks (if you use an orbital sander) and you will need to change the sandpaper a lot more often. I hope this helps ☺️
I love how it turned out, beautiful. The soy sauce worked very well. The blue gave it a new life. Loved your video. Linda Beals.
@@AlenBeals Thank you so much Linda, that’s a very kind comment! I’m happy that you liked the video 🥰
Lovely! I have used coffee and tea for stain, but will now try soy sauce. Thanks!
@@jeepstergal12 I haven’t used those before, I shall try them too 😁
My question is wouldn’t that mildew? I don’t recommend staining with anything you can eat.
@@Ontheflipside2021 Hi, That’s a really good comment, thank you for sharing! Since soy sauce is water based, it essentially acts as a water based stain. I left it to fully dry and sealed it with a wax, so the soy sauce shouldn’t cause mildew. Also, since it has a high salt content, it’s resilient against mildew. Mould can grow if the wood itself gets damp and doesn’t dry out - like if the furniture is in a damp garage in the winter. I feel like as long as the stain you are using is water based, like soy sauce, tea or coffee, and it has fully dried before you apply a topcoat, it should not cause an issue. :)
@ thank you for getting back to me. I will have to try this. I was concerned it would mildew but good points. Again thank you
@ You’re very welcome 😍 Good luck with it. ☺️ Merry Christmas 🎄🥰
That came out beautiful
Thank you so much! 🥰🥰
what was the name of the paint scrapper you used for the edges?
I used a carbide scraper ☺️
Looks great !
@@MrCleary21 Thank you so much 🥰🥰
Hi, is it Elbow Grease Washing Up spray you used? Great job BTW 👏
@@PaulaMcMillan-v4i Hi Paula, Thank you very much! 🥰🥰 It’s just a regular Elbow Grease degreaser spray ☺️
I'm just curious to know why you would put a white primer if you're painting it dark? Does bleed through only happen with dark furniture when you paint it white? So, in this case it wouldn't be necessary. I'm not trying to be rude in any way. I once did this and when the paint started to chip or get knicks you could see the white paint. I didn't like that. I'm still learning.
Thank you for the question, it's actually a really good question 😁 Bleed throughs usually happen when the resin from the bare wood shows through the paint. Usually bleed throughs only show on white/light colour pieces, that's true, because when the furniture is painted dark, it then hides the bleed throughs, but I like to use primer for better adhesion in general. 😁 I wanted to prime this piece because I wanted to make sure that the paint sticks to the furniture properly. I could've probably just applied the paint straight to the bare wood, but I didn't want to risk the paint peeling off. I could've used a grey colour primer, which would've been darker. Or I could've used a clear shellac, but I haven't found that in the UK yet. 😁 You can also mix up the paint with the primer, to colour the primer, but I didn't have enough paint for that. 😁 I know what you mean with the white showing through when the paint gets chipped, maybe next time you can try clear shellac or grey primer, or try and tint the white primer with paint. I'm also still learning after 5 years, haha, and I don't think I will ever stop learning. Every furniture is different, so means different challenges, but that's just the fun of it. 😁
very beautiful! I also painted the legs of my table (in dusty pink) with a stained top!
@@AnnemarieHulsman Thank you so much! 🥰 Dusty pink is such a beautiful colour, I have that colour too, but didn’t find the right piece for it 🙈 I bet your table looks stunning! 😍
Nice clean look!
@@cleopatracatra2097 Thank you so much!! 🥰🥰 I usually prefer more colours too, but I think this colour suits the set 😍

They're really beautiful! I couldn't see the pink showing through on the distressed areas very well but it may just be the lighting or my phone. I love these!!! You did an amazing job! Especially with those seats not coming off and how well you were still able to reupholster them! ❤😊
@@wodi28179 Thank you so much for your very kind comment 😍🥰🥰 I was a bit of a chicken when I was distressing the chairs, it was the first time that I ever distressed so I was afraid I will ruin them, and probably I could’ve done more so it shows properly. 😁 Next time I will be more brave, haha 😁
Thanks for sharing this! The horse engraving looks amazing on the table top! 😍
Thank you so much Julia! 🥰 I'm planning on creating more furniture like this, as I love this method so much 😍
This looks lovely, such a pretty colour! I’ve not used the Craig & Rose paints before, will need to check them out 😍👏🤩
@@phoenixfurniturestudio Thank you!! 😍 I love the colour too! 🥰 It’s definitely worth to try, great paint brand, got various beautiful colours and they also have some more artistic paints too, like marble effect or rust effect paints. I can’t wait to try those too 😁
Criminal level of furniture vandalism!
Just paint, no vandalism 🙈
That's a crime imo. Covering the natural wood with that raspberry color.
Thank you for the feedback! :) It can always be removed, so not all is lost. But I really wanted to do something different and colourful. What colour would you have used? :)
It’s good video thanks next time use mask it’s dangerous in close area
Thank you! I usually do, but sometimes I get lazy about it! 🙈
Hot water and fabric softner will remove it easily

Why are the last two minutes blank???
It was an editing failure on my part! The song is longer than the last part of the video, and I only realised that my editor didn’t cut it after I posted the video. 🙈 I hope you still enjoyed the video 🥰 (and the extra song! 😂)
It’s just been updated- I learned something new this time too, thank you for your comment 😊
you did a great job on this, have you sold it yet?
Hi James, Thank you so much! 🥰 No, I haven't sold it, it's still looking for its forever home. ☺
Beautiful
Try Hank you very much 🥰🥰
Thank you so much! I love that too!! I’m trying to make more furniture when I leave the wood natural and only use paint to help highlight the wood 🥰 I love to see the wood grain! 😍
Really pretty! I like the contrast of the paint with the natural wood.
This came out beautiful! I have an old maple dresser that was my great grandmothers and the top is warped, so I’m going to try your method on evening it out! I absolutely love the color that you painted this piece. I live at the beach and this piece that I am doing is going to be in my grandsons bedroom so I am looking to do a color similar to this that you did but more of a sea greenish-blue! I love your ideas and your pieces! 👌🏽🥰
Hello, Thank you so much for your lovely comment! 🥰🥰 I hope it's going okay if you tried it since! If you haven't painted yet, I can highly recommend this paint: Fusion Mineral paint - Seaside, I think that colour would be close to what you might like. Have a look at my other video where I use that paint, it's called "40 years old display set makeover" 🥰
Beautiful ❤

Ooh birdseye maple?
I believe so 😁
I LOVE THE ORIGINAL DRAWER HANDLES & WOULD DEFINITELY KEEP THOSE ON.
I loved them too! This was a customised piece for a client and she wanted these handles, but I kept the old ones for future projects 😁
'PromoSM' ❣️
Great video again, love this piece! With fusion mineral lids i used to have the same problem, if the lid is stuck on use a sanding pad to grip the lid, but to prevent it sticking put cling film between the lid before you put it away,.
Thank you James! That's a great tip, I will do that next time 😁
beautiful transformation!!!!
Thank you so much! 🥰🥰
you did a great job on such a huge piece! How did you work out a price for the customer as its not a quick job to do this, in my experience customers never appreciate how much time and effort goes into doing something!
Thank you! Well, I calculated how much hours I estimate it will take, times the payment per hour that I want to charge. Then I doubled the figure that I got, because I have poor time judgement, and I knew it was gonna take a lot more time, especially because I'm very perfectionist. Plus because these sets are really expensive if bought brand new. Then I added materials and fuel cost for picking it up and delivering. 😊 Yes, I just "lost" a potential customer because I asked for a certain amount to be paid in advance (cost of furniture plus cost of materials only) and she only wanted to pay on delivery, which is too high of a risk for me. It's worth waiting for the customer who appreciates our time and effort. 😊
I really like!
Thank you! 🥰🥰
