    Simple solutions: 1. Change nipples to #11 2. Chuck the OEM nipples in a drill and turn them down to fit #10's; use 220 sand paper for the abrasive.

      They're different my full size NMA wont take #10 caps, like i couldn't count on it, 2-3 cap jams a cylinder . CCI #11s work flawless in it with Slixshots. I'll need to get around looking at the hammer face and the mainspring in the future regarding the issue with 10s.

    At 7:25 when installing the trigger spring, place the long end of the spring into the shelf of the trigger, then you should wiggle the trigger and make sure the spring moves. Some folks may mistake the position of the spring and bury the long end deep in the trigger recess which is incorrect and will break the spring.

    For the tiny hand screw we use a magnetic ignition type screwdriver sold in auto parts stores.

    I just purchased a used Pietta New Model Army with a fully loaded cylinder. It appeared to have been loaded for several years. I pulled the balls and the back half of the balls were covered with corrosion. The inside of the chambers where the powder was was also corroded. The rest of the gun, nipples, and outer cylinder are fine. I'm assuming the cylinder corrosion won't affect the shoot-ability, as there was no corrosion in the front 2/3rds of the chambers.

    i know these are collectibles, but i've noticed they can shoot. but do they do as much damage back in the war ? or is it more recreational ? sorry i am new to thisblack powder thingy .

    • @vincentalessi1307
      @vincentalessi1307 20 днів тому

      I've heard that the original loading instructions were to fill the cylinders completely full with 30 to 40 grains of 3Fg, then ram the ball on top l(and maybe apply stiff beeswax/non-petroleum oil mix to seal the chambers). Would've been a mm stopping load. Today we want target loads of 16 to 25 grains, lubricated wool felt wads, then the ball as target loads. Wads make for a much cleaner range session too.

    Cheap candle wax and Vaseline is a very easy and effective method. It dissolves the black powder residue making it softer without reacting with it to make it more corrosive in any way

    I’ve been shooting Black Powder gun’s since around 1988, both percussion rifles and cap and ball revolvers and here’s two things I am going to say. The only way that cap is going to go off is if you give it a good wrap, and a wood handle from a hammer with a light wrap is all it takes. Now the second thing is, you can buy #11 nipples/cones for a cap and ball revolver if #11 caps is all you can find which is better then pinching a #11 cap to attempt to force comparability with #10 nipples.

  • @KathrynLiz1
    @KathrynLiz1 5 місяців тому

    MMM.. I have never shot mine (Ubertis) that much without cleaning. I think about 50 or so rounds was the most I ever did. Yes the caps get more difficult to seat as fouling accumulates, but they can be pushed on with some force. Like you, I found the cylinder pin very hard to remove after all that. Great video... thanks... 🙂

  • @KathrynLiz1

    Vaseline works really well too with beeswax.... Basically all BP lubes are beeswax... the oil/talllow/whatever is just to soften the wax. It's the beeswax that does the bizzo...

    • @jusportel
      @jusportel 4 місяці тому

      I started out mixing beeswax with vaseline, when I first bought a Snider many years ago. Long since abandoned it in favour of various oils, canola, olive, coconut… The vaseline had a tendency to make the fouling harden up. The best mix I found was beeswax and Ballistol, but that gets a bit expensive…

    Great video. The only problem I had was that I didn't notice you pushing the trigger forward to catch the spring when inserting the trigger spring and it took me three times to assemble and disassemble before I caught it. My error! Thanks though. Question, I am having a very difficult time with the lever loading retainer. I think it's either bent or the previous owner shaved it. Can that be easily replaced? It looks like it could be but I'm seeing some things online about it being soldered in. Help?

    Great video! I got to learn how to clean an 1858 Remington my grandfather left me, got it totally stripped and was freaking out about getting it back together. Awesome video, I think I got it back together faster than I took it apart. And those screws, no joke, easy to mess it up. Thank you!

  • @GenderSkins
    @GenderSkins 6 місяців тому

    A lot of the cleaning really depends on two things. How well you lube the gun during use, and two how dirty the powder you are using is. Now an open top or Colt style black powder revolvers will be a little more tolerant of types of black powder that are dirtier, then full frame or Remington style black powder revolvers. Example: if you are shooting a hand made black powder that is more dirty then say Goex, or Swiss then you are going to be doing a lot more field cleaning just to get through a days shooting at the range. Field cleaning = removing the cylinder to wipe the arbor/cylinder pen down to free up the cylinder while shooting.

    i've used wax toilet seal rings! works pretty good. I've also used large veterinary syringes to apply it. just heat it until it's fairly drippy, pour it into the syringe and seal it with the plunger. you might have to ream out the head where the needle normally goes but the plastic is soft.

    I place my powder in a Saran Wrap square, then twist it up. Tie it with thread and trim it short to make a small pouch. I load like that, then clear nail polish the primer/cap. I use two over ball cards. One dry then the second one is lightly greased. I have stored it in this condition for as much as three years and it shoots normally. (Goex FFF powder)

    You may want to try lubing the barrel and forcing cone with Blackie Thomas's gun butter and bullets with his bullet butter. There have been 3 or 4 Tubers that have tried it with Remington revolvers and got excellent results.
