Accelerated Surface is a huge time saver to for areas that might otherwise require Blends and it's also a great alternative to Fillets that may require extra "lead in" for stamping or aesthetics. CATIA Icem Shape Morphing is the required application for this command in 3DEXPERIENCE (V6). The V5 license is ICEM Expert (IEX or ISX).

Great! Fantastic! It is very interesting. Do u mind to share the sample to me ?
Excellent !!!!!
Many thanks for your video's. I have a question regarding "Patch from patches" tool. Some times it works and other times it doesn't and so far I could not figure out the pattern if there is any. For example - I have two surfaces (one is a sliver that I would like to get rid of) which are connected perfectly up to G3 . Surfaces are relatively long (~500mm). It would keep complaining about topology no matter what numbers I input. If I input large numbers within options/icem/topology than it stops complaining but those yellow markers that should allow me to pick corners are misplaced - it should have picked 2 corners on 1st surface and 2 corners on 2nd surface so that it creates one patch out of two patches. In reality one of corners is missed and one yellow marker appears on 1st surface and 3 yellow markers on 2nd surface. If I try to "force" it to choose appropriate corner than it starts complaining about "Unassigned surface marker points, or corner points outside of marker region". Could you please suggest some sort of "workaround" to get it to work properly? I'm working with Catia v5/ISD. Thank you.
Hi Tudor...sorry for the late response. It sounds like you did everything right...If you still have issues with it, could you post a shareable link to an image that illustrates the issue? This can be done via google drive.
@@GerardAlcini Thanks for answering! I will try making a screenshot (I could not "fix" that particular issue) to illustrate what I'm talking about - within a couple of days at max.
Hi! In what workbench can I find this command?
Hi There. In V5 it is CATIA ICEM Shape design but you also need the IEX (ICEM SHAPE DESIGN EXPERT 2) license.
@@GerardAlcini thanks for replying
Great video's! I think this are best Catia videos out there. People need more of this.
Hello Gerard, thanks for the video. It’s very illustrative! Let me ask you something. With CATIA v6 3D Experience is not needed the traditional Alias and/or Icem surf softwares to create the class A surfaces? Everything can be done with only one software (3D Experimce)??? Please advise. Thanks
Hi Roy (?), 100 percent correct. CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE has all the creative design and class "A" solutions needed to do the job...and they're all using the same data in a true digital thread.
Nice video by #siemenscadsolutions

Hi. Why is your model appearance is beautiful than the default catia models?
Hi Mr Alcini, why do sometimes these constraints stop updating? and it needs us to re-apply the constraint to work? some work as expected and simultaneously some do not work and I find no difference between the two.
Hi Fardin, there is a way to force the constraints to "always" update by opening the dialog and turning on the auto-update icon but I do NOT recommend this setting. That's because if you have multiple matching constraints applied and make a change to one of them, it can have a globally devastating affect on the others, making it difficult to pick up the pieces. They are working as designed to give the user full control. So in a situation where you apply a match but it turns another one "red", check to see if you have diffusion turned on...this may be the cause because its deliberately forcing a change all along the surface. So your choices are 1) turn this option off, which means the diffusion will only affect the rows specified by your continuity input or 2) leave on, then RMB on the "red" constraint and do a local update. There is no right or wrong setting, I use them both depending on the situation.
@@GerardAlcini thank you Mr Alcini for sharing your knowledge.it is helpful.
Great skills! Thanks for sharing.
Hi Gerrard, your design was very nice. Because the playback speed sometimes increases, I do not understand how some changes. Can you send me a slow video of this beautiful work? Of course, if possible. Sincerely, Iraj
Wow ICEM looks very useful. I'm using GSD and FreeStyle but there are some deficiencies for A-class surface modeling. Thank you for this!
excellent, enjoyed it. A question about harmonization, I have a noisy surface of order 5 x 5, I want to harmonize the second row in say V direction(row V2) and I want the control points of this row to move tangentionally in order to not losing the tangent condition to the adjacent surface in boundary V1 , I don't find any of the harmonization options to work in this way in Freestyle workbench. I wondered maybe "support" options affect the direction of CPs movement in harmonization but it dose not. may you suggest a way. Thanks for you great video.
Hi Fardin...a little late with my reply, sorry. If you need to protect the tangent condition to an adjacent surface, and the control points are "noisy", then perhaps the adjacent surface is the actual culprit. I suggest imposing a matching constraint of the surface that you want to clean up to the neighboring patch, then modify those control points (of the neighboring patch). Impose a graphic "dress-up" on the patch that is being matched so you can see the control points when modifying the driving surface....I hope that makes sense!
@@GerardAlcini Thanks so much Mr Alcini, I appreciate your answer.
Why did I follow the command 9: :30 and only get a copy of the curve without changing the surface? Thanks
Hi Ben, make sure that you do not have "Keep Original" turned on in the app options window. This will duplicate the curve or surface, thus no referenced geometry will be driven from this duplication.
@@GerardAlcini Thank you very much for your help :)
Perfect !More catia icem please
Fantastic tutorial! Thanks for sharing and putting this all together!
Hi Mr.Alcini, I have a doubt regarding to the solid pattern of the grid, as you define the 2nd direction (horizontal), how do you get each column of the pattern in a different high? That puzzles me... Thank you in advance.
Hi Jordi, The values for the honeycomb is defined in the sketch. This overview does not go into details in this area but if you need a better understanding of CATIA Sketches, there are plenty of videos that explain them well.
Hi Gerard, may I ask you, how did you add control points tool into Imagine and shape ant @0:27 ? , I've been reading help but can't find anything.Thank you
Great Tutorial mr.Alcini!. I am glad that I discovered a few functionalities I was not aware of in the control points command. That made my life easier in catia. Thanks! I hope some day you make another tutorial regarding to matching constraint command... ;)
Thank you, Jordi...will try doing a matching constraint video when time permits.
Hi @Gerard, I'm having problem, when I copy paste the feature and changing the direction, it cuts the interior and doesn't show anymore.
Hi Jose, Sorry....late reply. There are myriad things that can cause the issue. If you copy and paste a feature, it may be possible that you have to look at the parent entities, making sure that the new feature will build properly. Things such as fillet values, direction of both surfaces for a the fillet, the approximation settings need to be tight as well. If nothing resolves the issue, try to remove the trim option to see if it builds and work the bugs out from there.
@@GerardAlcini Thank you Gerard, I'm on it.

Hi Mr Alcini, I model a part and before I send it to the machining I want to make sure that the part meets a certain diameter for tooling, in other words I want the smallest endmill diameter that is required to mill the part, may you please give me a suggestion in GSD or FreeStyle workbench? Thanks for your unique videos.
Hi Fardin, try using Surfacic Curvature Analysis, then select the limited radius option. Type in the a nominal value, say 5mm and set the color scale to your liking, then select all the geometry you wish to analyze and can see what radii are above and below your input value and you can use an option below in the dialog box called "on the fly", mousing over any area of concern to get a dynamic feedback of the radius and/or curvature value. Hope this helps
@@GerardAlcini Thanks so much Mr Alcini, I tried it and I don't find it to work for my case, it is good for the curved areas but where there is for example two popped features in a part that the distance between them are less than the tool diameter the endmill will not be able to go between them and this analysis don't give a result because it is for curved areas.
@@fardin5059 Fardin, what CAM software are you using? Many of them have a feature called REST (REmainingSTock) machining that will clean up remaining stock from larger tools...have you investigated if this feature exists? Otherwise, the only trick that I can think of trying is to try an edge fillet for the entire part and continually decrease the value until you have your answer. Head Impact Anaylsis would probably work...but I know that you don't have this license... :(
@@GerardAlcini Thank you Mr Alcini, I am not the machinist guy but I know the machinist uses Powermill which have the REST-machining capability and he REST-machine the part and finds a spot which the tool does not enter and sends the model back to me to modify, my goal is to stop this back and forth between modeler and machinist and send the model in a way that makes sure it will not be sent back, I thought a tool like Thickness-analysis may exist to do what I expect and lack of such a tool really is strange to me. Thank you for your answer.
Fantastic tutorial, but the music was not consistent. Thanks so much.
Noted!
can you please share the data again?
SIR, Very thanks for you, there is so rarely training video about catia icem.
Wow!!That iterative reversing the source and target in matching the constraints seems to be one of secrets of this tool. That will be great if you do a lesson for "Matching Constraints" tool ,maybe doing a fully G2 ball corner, may you please? if I don't want to go beyond degree 7 for the ball corner is the "Matching Constraints" tool capable of adding extra patches to the corner? Thanks so much.
Hi Fardin...Matching constraints can increase the order of a surface, whether its a single segment Bezier or multi-segment NURBS but cannot add segmentation (patches). In complex fillets, there's no reason not to increase the orders to 10 or 11 on a Bezier patch (use your discernment). The important thing is to make sure the surface remains smooth and without inflections.
@@GerardAlciniHi Mr Alcini. I hear that some very top CAD speakers from Alias don't tend to go beyond 7 or 8 control points for A class work, is this because of the CAD system they use or they have different work flow? Thank you so much.
I'm very happy to see a top CATIA hero like you is sharing his valuable knowledge with students like me. I hope you do more lessons. Thanks so much.

Gerard, Great vid well explained. I enjoyed following you, so I decided to try it myself on a huge STL of a lion's head I paid $3.50 for. (almost 400Mb!). I ASK always MYSELF How to do the same with Ungraphics NX I CAN not download the part
Hi Khalil, I do not believe there is SubDivision technology available in NX but I could be wrong. There are some other tools such as Modo, Maya, Rhino, Blender and Fusion 360 but they do not have a fully integrated suite like CATIA that produces actual NURBS surfaces + Boolean operators.
Outstanding

Its fantastic sir.didnt have more videos in this catia mode?
Hi Thank you for the great Video. I would have two questions. 1) At the very beginning of the Video/Tutorial you have created one Curve with 13 Vertices. For the first and second area you defined 5 vertices but for the thired area only 3 Vertices. How you define the number of Vertices? 2)At min 2:25 in the first video you make an Extrusion of the Surface. Why ist the result a curved contur? How did you decide to take this steps to round the Corner?
1. i think the number of the Vertices is not very strict, is based on the complicity of the contour. the Hood is relative complicated, so use 5 vertices, and the tailgate is simple, so...
Hi brother. Can you please define in which section does this tool comes in catia v5 2019.It would be very helpful. . . . Nice video😍
Hi Kiran...sorry about the really late response...This is all available in CATIA Imagine and Shape...all releases since...well a long time ago. You will need the CATIMA license. Best Regards, Gerard
@@GerardAlcini Thank you brother 😊
Hi Gerard, thank you for that short tutorial. Can you make an other video to show obj -> 1 subdivision in IMA?
Hi Fester...do you mean importing an obj into IMA? Yes, I will but it's pretty straight forward. If you have, say an OBJ from Maya or Modo, the import mechanism is directly available in IMA application (3dx) and workbench (v5).
Blender obj should be fine too.
Hi Gerard, thanx for your answer. I was trying to import an OBJ file (Maya or Cinema 4D). As you said, the import mechanism works. But after importing an OBJ there is not one single subdivision but a lot (more than 20). So I always need to combine those 20 subdivision surfaces to one. Is there an other way where I can get 1 sub?
Good stuff G. If you have time, maybe make a ICEMsurf tutorial of maybe car hood or football helmet. Are almost no tutorials out there (plenty for Alias!).
