I got an RTX 3060 a couple years ago for about $400. It's still a great card with Fallout 4, Skyrim, Tiny Tina's Wonderland, Subnautica, and Fallout 76 looking well. It pairs well with my Ryzen 3 3200 G with 16 gig 3200 ram, built in 2020. If you think my rig is old, the case is an alienware from 2005!

Nelly, All I see is a CPU limited experience. With a system of this vintage, You could easily drop an i7 4770/4790k for cheap and address the glaring performance issue. I've built a similar i3 with a 4150/MSI GTX 970 years ago, So I have some knowledge on how this can tarnish these bang on budget GPU's. Wouldn't mind a retest with said strong intel processor. Thanks for the video and Cheers on your new channel.

I bought my son the Gainward Ghost 3060 12GB at the start of Covid for £500! Great card but then upgraded him to a Palit 3070 GAMING PRO which blew it out of the water… he’s now rocking a Asus 4070 TUF GAMING OC which was a decent upgrade but not the difference from 3060 to 3070. For £260 ish the 3060 for 1080p is a great deal.

We dont even have to watch FAR; Hardware unboxed demonstrated the large problem of driver overhead using Ncrappier RTX gpu's with lower end processors. Basically if you have an older weaker quad core (i7 4770 say) you should be buying the rx 6600, which is faster than a 3060 in ALL situations but esp with weaker old cpu's. Whats first for laughs? "Lets find out if some of these older components can function with modern technology" .. This is a major understanding fail; the PCI-E bus and its different levels are forwards and backwards compatible with gpu cards for well over a decade. So it is not 'new tech'. The only major hiccup to this was with O.E.M. systems when nvidia compressed the vram on the 9 series cards, and without a bios update, biz chipset O.E.M. boards(particularly prone with only 8 pci-e lanes) would not run say a gtx 970 but would run an r7 2/380 no probs. (I remember this well, I spent a LOONG TIME cursing the price of a 970 and most biz boxes had no bios updates) Second for Laughs; Nelly is going to be using his "Test Bench" .. So after talking like a ten yr old mobo pci-E connect* is dinosaur tech for new entry cards he is going to use a power supply from 2006 which is 18 yrs old. (no, he doesnt have a psu load tester set up to test the test rig psu and yes the rest of us understand the probs using an 18 YEAR OLD POWER SUPPLY ffs ) Next? Oh yeah. DDR3 near him is as rare as rocking horse shit. HA HA HA HA HA. THE WORLD is swimming in it_ Gotta be fxxxxxxx kidding_ And he does not know about cas latency. Or 2 vs 4 sticks etc on that platform. How that affects cpu perf. Basically this bloke NELLY is an idiot like Reg Prescott the D.I.Y. er on the Kenny Everett show. A quick deny channel should see this plonker eradicated, bloke is WAY out of his depth. * gen 3

Yeah, no. That frametime graph looks downright nasty and unplayable. such swings at 40-50 fps most people gonna struggle to ignore. In this case i would seriously consider limiting to 40 (or based on lowest fps achieved with no cap) in RTSS in attempt to smooth out the stutter.

Wouldn't you be better off with an amd card if you want a cheaper card with lot's of vram and a good price/performance? For 1080p@60Hz 3060 12G is more than adequate and budget solution even with max graphics settings. If you use DLSS and Frame Generation, of course. I mean it keep close to 60fps(dlss quality, FSR3 FG) in CP2077 path tracing enabled, and up to 100 fps in CitySample demo.

The RTX 3060 12GB still is a pretty good card and pretty much the minimum requirement for a modern FullHD gaming PC if you buy new. I'd check out the RX 6700 XT ( and possibly 6750 XT ) before buying though, because those are faster and actually can provide decent 4k gaming performance for the same price or less.

@@chasethefeel No, its a very slow very limited to upgrade pc .. MUCH slower than a used i7-4xxx box with 2x8 gb ddr3 1600 CL9 and a 480 Gb sata 2.5 " S.S.D. in it that costs £90 on feEbay. This box has 1x8Gb cheap 2666 ddr4 (terrible ) likely crappy timings but adding another stick will be limited at dual channel 16Gb 2666 (at crappy timings, way slower ram than the cpu can handle) The fact it has an HDD makes it a proper DINOSAUR_ and not having an M.2 2280 socket for NVME drives means it will always be half dino, half modern AT BEST with that fairly recent 10xxx 6 core engine. I would urge you to re watch the part where windows is loading. It took so long to boot he fast forwarded thru it. This SPINNING DOHNUT OF YAWN will occur every time any program is opened. Will (YAWN DONUT) be diminished a lot with a sata S.S.D. drive? Yes. But not enough to warrant a 6 core 10 series chip. It was common practise amongst O.E.M.'s to sell sh1tty little sff computers on the strength of 1 component; The processor. This small form factor rig is such a S.K.U. It might have proprietary board and / or psu (that psu is junk for gaming and the board / chipset is not fast enough for other apps with that 10x chip) So what is left? Oh yeah. The '"10400" chip. I dunno. Why did you buy a 40 month old weak at launch 1080p card for 280 quid when today I can buy an rx 6750 xt xfx qick from ebuyer for £300? The 6750 xt is 41% faster in Rasterisation (pick yr spelling) also has 12Gb vram and the chops to use it in 1440p AAA higher settings gaming. The 3060 'doesnt'. The 3060 was so poor ncr4ppier put 12Gb on it but only 8gb on the 3060 t.i. which is 28% faster. Everybody saw thru this price hiking ruse on the 3060 sh1t show. Generations ago card vendors used to add more ram to crap gpu's but no longer allowed even if possible. So, what else we got? Some utter b0ll0x about the fan blades being curved and higher static pressure? Like they arent on every s.k.u. graphics card? SERIOUSLY? The difference in same price tier gpu cards re noise and temps is minimal, this is not a new field of physics f.f.s. IF you dont know this create a channel about something else. (mowing lawns?) Oh, you want perhaps to help all those people move from a gtx 1650 to an rtx 3060 for 1440p (most of those '50 cards are in o.e.m. boxes) Well, that is going to require a power supply upgrade and once you move off the O.E.M. crap PSU that a 1650 will run on THEY will be spending £55 ish for a reliable gaming quality psu.. ALL. DAY. LONG. (quick look on part picker) Say, 550w for your sh1t heap 3060 card ( but once you get into 550 Watts GAMING quality unit, prices vary less . The cheapest 550 watt unit I trust today is the be quiet sys power 10 550w at £52..(trust long term open / hi flow case) But the be quiet! System Power 10 650 W bronze for £58.. so suddenly a card that needs 650w PSU doesnt look like a deal breaker. You move on to equate graphics card performance to vram, this is a real noob mistake. A 4 Gb rx 4/570 / 80 (and 1060 3Gb if tweaked settings carefully)) will p1ss all over a 4Gb rx 4/ 560, gtx 1050 ti / 1650 in mmo's. And old AAA games @ 1080p. I have a friend that bougght a 3060 because he needed something with low power draw as well as a GPU that would run WoW at 4k well and didn't have a completely gimped memory bus and lane count when it came to running with a ryzen 3600 which is pcie 3.0. He bought it in 2024 because there was pretty much nothing else except the 4070 which is more power than he wanted to draw as well as about twice as expensive for 90% more performance which means it's a bit less cost efficient for the performance. No good options for him...

The 3060 has the same amount of shaders as the flagship from 2011 , namely 3584 , and since its memory is half the buswidth , 192 , but twice the speed , it performs about the same as the 1080ti. How can it be a bad card. On the other side , the 1080ti is already 13 years old. But for 1080p gaming , rendering and video editing it is a great low budget choice.

I'm very happy with my 3060. My upgrade was from a GTX 970. It runs smoothly, games look, and play great. For a 12gen CPU, 32GB Ram, and a Samsung 230Hz 1080p monitor, it's all I need right now.

I realized I got my Girlfriend a RTX 2060 12GB MSI Ventus OC, and that runs pretty well on 1080p.

well the 4060/4070 are crap and anything above that is good but its expencive so if we take the 30 series the 3060(12gb) ain't the best out of the 30 series casue the 3080/90 are outperforming it however they are again more expencive and if u are gonna drop that amount of $$$ better add few more $$$ and buy a 4080

4060 is faster than 3060 in majority of games

I have the exact same card and model for the past 25 months. It's more of a 1080p card in 2024. Even then, newer games like avatar, alan wake 2, starfield etc require upscaling to get 60fps at 1080p. I also have really bad frame drops in helldivers 2 to 15-20fps so im worried I'll be needing a faster card if i hope to play newer games.

u do not need 60+ fps for SP titles but even a 40 series cards req upscaling for those games u mentioned

He keeps saying 4k gaming. This is NOT a 4k gaming card. That is why he is not testing it in 4k.

Folks, don't use Steam hardware survey to buy GPUs.

... because it only says what is gamed on, not how good it actually performs. I mean you don't even know the system, display or settings used there.

Do people actually do that lol?

@@X_irtz I don't know, I only see the hobby from the enthusiast forums and such, but I think despite desktop sales continuing to contract, we're still getting lots of "new to PC from the consoles" users. For those folks, not familiar with hobby or it's quirks, Steam hardware survey might seem like a good metric for what folks that do know are using. If they watch this video that idea would only be re-enforced.
