05 Toyota Prius 'P' Lock Mechanism

See what I did when my 05 2nd Gen Toyota Prius Hybrid displayed ' abnormal park lock mechanism......'
There are 2 blue wires...
Hi Joshua, as long as you are connecting a piece of blue wire to the area i demonstrated you should be fine. You are not cutting anything out. You are just adding to whatever wires you have.
Hey my 2005 Toyota Prius won’t go into drive or reverse only neutral. Is the shift lever the reason why ? Let me know please

Your advice lead me to cleaning the fuse. And that's all it took. But thank you for a starting point.
That is not how the wiring works. What you are doing is bypassing the problem by jumping across the switch that determines if there is a problem or not. YOU are artificially jumping or telling the system it is OK but in reality it is not OK
What type of wire do I jse?
My catalyc comverter got stolen on my 2009 prius.. I drove like that for less than 2 miles and got red triangle with exclamation point on it. When that happened car started to loose power and eventually died on me:( right now I have it at a muffler shop where they will put another catalyc converter on but car still does not turn on..when I press on power button all the lights come on with rd d triangle like if car it's on but engine not on. Lights, radio and power windows work . The windows are slow though so I don't know if battery it's dying. If I remember I have one purple bar. Also keep getting a message about something that car needs to be on flat surface and something about the transmission . A while back it completely died on my while I was changing the passenger mirror, after I was done I gave it a jump and everything was good. This time it won't move from one purple bar even after a jumped it
So what type of wire did u put in it?
Cobber.
ITS FREAKING HOT AND I CANT START THIS JUNK ill take rain any time
When you added the additional wire, did you wedge it into the blue wire or is there a specific way connect the wire. And was your plock problem intermittent of constant. My one is only is the mornings, eventually switch the engine off and then on and the car is then as good as gold for the rest of the day.
Shafiq Rashid All the wires there are color coded so if your wire that goes into the trans from the PCon is blue, its good to use a blue wire for easy identification. Also, all you have to do is use anything pointed tool that can just push the ends of your wires into the respective ends to fit in a way that nothing will cause it to pull out.
Thanks man, I have changed the fuse and seems to be OK, but will add a wire should the problem arise again. Once again, many thanks and appreciate your swift reply
@@shaf9801 what fuse did you change 7.5
this is for the second generation, what about the third generation is the same
I haven't had anyone saying they had that issue on 3rd generation yet but if you are having the same problem as "P Lock mechanism" i think it should work for you.
Thank u
I never had this problem but thanks a lot for the video. I have no doubt it's coming at some point. This damn car has a lot of little manufacturing quality quirks like this. I have a whole page-long list of em! But as for the power train, It never dies lol. the engine and transmission outlast the odometer.
Thankful for the video. I did one up by going to the auto parts store and bought me an add a circuit fuse 7.5 amp and a baby terminal clip to connect to the blue wire that he was describing. All that I had to do was splice the blue wire and remove the old 7.5 amp fuse and added the add a circuit fuse to it and it worked out great. This video was very helpful. Thank you
Hey thank you have an 08 prius and tried this all works it is the solid blue wire .
Yes it's Henri. Glad it worked for you!!!
My car is saying the same and not starting. Could this fix my issue?
Kudos brother!!! my car had been sitting for 4 months, after I spent hours digging for an answer. When I found this it took me ten minutes to fix my car!!! I CAN'T SAY THANK YOU ENOUGH!!!
What type of wire did you used, and how do u connected, do you just take off fuse then stick wire I there and the run it to other side where blue is and just stick it in there or do I need to take stuff apart to conect wire

p lock malfunction when parking park in flat place and apply parking brake securely 2010 is it work for 2010????
rajataal or whatever you call yourself.....you old enough to learn some manners into your big head. There is no need to be rude. If you have better explanation skills you could pass it on rather than been rude. It's called gratitude! Once again, learn some manners!
Thanks for the info, but way too much rambling. This should have been a 40 second video, not 6 minutes.
Shut up lol English isn't his first language. I mean I agree but give the guy a break lol. Its good info before it went haywire.
It works. Thanks alot!!!!!!!
Thank you so much! It did solve same issue with my 2004 Prius. I just want to add that when you are connecting wire to the 7.5 Amp fuse, be sure to connect it to the terminal towards the passenger side of the car. In other words to the output side of the fuse. This way you are still using the fuse in case there is a short or overload in the system. If you connect it to the driver side of the fuse, you would be bypassing the fuse. It would still work, but it won't be properly protected and in case of a short somewhere, might catch fire. And you need to splice in to the fourth wire on the top row of the connector (counting from passenger side to the driver side, while connector plugged in) color coded blue.
Hi Rom, thanks for your advice!
Hey my 2005 Toyota Prius won’t go into drive or reverse only neutral. Is the shift lever the reason why ? Let me know please
@@danieldeshommes4167 There could be many different reasons for this, shift lever is least likely of them all. You need to diagnose with a scan tool to see what the trouble codes are. It will point you in the right direction.
@@romgar200 thank but I did use a scam tools there is no code showing up !

Did you get the VSC light also? I have the three indications: triangle, (!), and VSC.
American Looks like they are pretty associated with each other. Try to get that park lock problem solve and see if the vsc ligt is still there. I remember having something like that after i power washed my motor but the reason was because some water went into my ignition coils. So i took them all out and clean them and afterwards never had the problem again. Let me know the results after the first steps and thanks for watching!
Thx Ryan. I glad it has worked for you just as it has worked for a lot more people on here who spent time to watch this video😄😄
Dude this video helped my car. Thank you so much. This was a lifesaver and it stopped a lot of my stress LOL 2006 Toyota Prius
This did not solve my issue, replacing the engine ECU solved my issue.

Can the ECU remap fix this?
Thank you! I did everything like you said and it working! Good job!
Vasyl Demhan Awesome! And thx for watching.
Worked perfectly on my 05 Prius thank you
Chuck Jordan You welcome Jordan! l am glad it has worked for you like many others on here!!!
hi thx for your vdo my prius 2007 got the similar problem but it only does few times while i driving the car on D mode car goes on to the P by itself and shows the same message but it only happens on slow speed i never have any problem on motorway. do u think it is the same problem that you mention on ur vdo? also my car does not start some times in the morning all lights flash i think i have a bad 12v battery? i also want to know if i do same as u showing and use a wire from fuse to main then do i still need new 12v battery too? plz reply soon thx
m ali Mughal Thx for watching Ali. There is no harm in trying. Once your dashboard displays the Park Lock Mechanism problem, it might be that your wires connecting from ur PCoN Main to ur tranny is getting rusty. Its not gona harm to give it a try by connecting that extra wire. Jst follow the instructions closely. Pull out the fuse from ur PCon Main and stick one end of ur wire in there and then put the fuse back in. Nxt, connect the other end to the respective place as the instructions from my vdo. Then try to start ur car. If that is the problem, its gona disappear right away and will never appear again. Also, if that is the problem, it's not gona have anything to do with your 12v battery so, follow all steps and wen that is done, get ur 12v battery tested. NB: Ur car is driving alright do but there is no communication wen u park ur car. So it could roll on u wen u think ur car has been parked. Technically, its not in parking mode. So, the earlier, the better! Once again, thx for watching and i hope it works for u jst as it has worked for many others even on this platform.
ok thx i let u know the results. fingers crossed..
onto the other end on the main blue wire do i need to make that blue wire naked to connect new wire connection? or there will be a place to connect new wire on?
Ali, do NOT pull out that blue. Just push the end of the new wire in the same place u ve ur old blue wire. In this case, ur just paring 2 blue wires to fit in the same sport. But make sure ur car is not on wen ur doing that. Jst to be on the safer side bcos that hybrid ur working on has a lot of power.
👌
Thanks Evopo for your comments. I am glad it worked for you!!!

Thx Randomie. I will definitely check out your channel soon
Hi Graeme thanks for taking your time to watch my first video. I ve uploaded another video to throw more light on the first video and also based on your request. Do not hesitate to check it out and let me know if that was helpful.
Thanks! That second video helps. I found the blue wire in the top row and it's in the 4th port from the left; with 8 ports across. My prius is a 2008 second gen, so I'm pretty sure the fuse box is the same. Did you put the new blue wire in the 4th port from the left in the top row?
Yes Graeme that's exactly what I did.
Graeme don't forget the other end of your new wire goes into your P CON Main. Just pull out the 7.5A if its the same number or even if different, and put your wire in there and then push the 7.5A back in so it holds the end of your new wire in place.
video messed up. one end of wire to?
Luke B Hi Luke i do apologize for the quality of my video. Actually it was the first of its kind but if u can open fuse, i joint one end of the wire to the 7.5A P CON and the other end to where all the wires in the fuse connect. As you can see, all wires are color-code. In my case, the blue wire is the one that connects to the transmission mechanism. Let me know if you still need help i will make a short video to sho u where its connecting.
Emmanuel B. thank you so much. i changed the 12 volt battery with one i knew was good. didn't solve it. replaced the park lock mechanism actuator wasn't it. what you told us to do was the problem. thanks very much you was spot on if i could give u a million likes i would. thanks Luke
Luke B You welcome Luke! I am glad it worked for you and also glad i was able to be of help!
Hi, I found this video really interesting and I am having the exact same problem. I was wondering if you could upload a new video or a few pictures of where the wire connects. Thanks so much.
Luke B you need to put one end of the wire.....ire, ire. ire, ire, ire, ire, ire
