"Oh, it's a cover based shooter that was advertised as a cover based shooter. Let's burn it at the stake!" No, how about you play the game and enjoy it? I can see the argument for innovation in game, but not so far as lambasting a good game because it doesn't innovate beyond what they advertised. Especially when it's testing the waters for a new IP. The Last of Us has great characters, plot, and environments, but the gameplay is sorely lacking in many areas. If your in search of a fast paced game with limited cutscenes then this game isn't for you. Stick to Call of Duty or similar titles.

  • @Miyakolover
    @Miyakolover 7 років тому

    I am not sure what do you mean by "in the half way point the story gets really good"...because the game really doesn't have much of a story being told here...it's just Joel and Ellie getting in trouble with the infected and the hunters with nothing moving the plot forward.

      As far as I know, people were upset that it wasn't what they thought it was. In this case, it looked like a found footage movie. Of course, it wasn't, but at points it was shot like one. It's one of my Halloween go to movies, though, because of how deep it's willing to go. There are a lot of themes that I've seen only a few American horror movies go to that this nailed.

      thewindowkeeper Oh wow. Like he's gonna be the one to change the tide of reviews on "The Last Of Us" by controlling the masses to look at more "positive" reviews, giving his life purpose it sounds like. Honestly, I never got the hype with that game, people praised it for being original, but it's not, in any way, shape or form, nor is it a perfect game, as many videos have proven the game is buggy. Not buggy to the point the game is unplayable, but certainly noticeable.

    • @thewindowkeeper
      @thewindowkeeper 9 років тому

      ***** Exactly. I played the remaster of it, just so I could say I beat it and make a final judgment, but I still don't see the appeal. I didn't find it emotional, and I didn't relate or sympathize with the characters or the plot. As it is, it isn't the stand out game as a few Indie games the world has seen in the past few years.

    • @Jman92854
      @Jman92854 9 років тому

      thewindowkeeper Agreed, there are plenty of other indie games that deserved more praise than this. For example, I found the back story to FNAF more interesting and emotional. I mean, regardless how people feel about "jump scares" and the quality/gameplay of the games, the hidden story is what kept me waiting for the next game.

  • @Jman92854

    I agree, this was a very well made movie, even down to how the demon drove him insane with the ants, how it crawled on him, annoying him, he'd kill it or brush it off, and then another ant would take its place. I think them showing how the wife died at the end of the movie, was to reinforce the fact that, just because she was religious, it didn't rule her life. She loved Michael and didn't care that he didn't believe in God or the Devil. She loved him for him, and that basically, he brought all this onto himself, his sister and his daughter for nothing. In fact...now that I think about it...he was a horrible person. I mean think about it, he wanted to prove his DEAD WIFE wrong, by grabbing all the most evil and demonic items and spells and whatever he could, bringing them into the same house he, his sister and daughter live in, and didn't think anything would go wrong. I know he thought he'd be right but, you'd think that if he was experimenting, he'd do it in a safer location.

    • @thewindowkeeper
      @thewindowkeeper 9 років тому

      Admittedly, there are few horror movies where I find the main character likable, and this wasn't one of them. But, to this movie's credit, I do think that was the point. He was even asked by his sister to stop, and he just didn't, even for the sake of his daughter. Also, the ant in his eye... I don't handle eye horror well at all. That was just... eww.

    • @Jman92854
      @Jman92854 9 років тому

      thewindowkeeper Oh I'm not saying all horror movies don't have likeable characters, I agree with you there, but in this instance, he isn't and for good reason. He's one of those stuck up jackasses who think because they don't believe in God or the Devil or the paranormal, that means he's the smartest person in the world and everyone is below him. And I agree with you there, I hate eye horror...and ear horror....and jaw horror. That's why I'll never watch "Mirrors" again, I hated that bathtub, jaw ripping scene.

    Dude, don't apologize for your behavior. Honestly, I like your rant above all others because, you're actually upset and angry. I mean, anyone can sit infront of a camera and go "Oh man, this game pissed me off" but yet you listen to them and they're not actually angry. Not only that, you have/had people in your life who have experienced what happens in the game (your friend who died and the friends who were raped) and that legitimately offended you. You actually have heart behind this rant and I'm amazed that you have WAY less views than you deserve.

      You and me both, mate. On top of being a cliched story that did nothing...you can also argue there is no story whatsoever...we got a premise that doesn't change or is affected by any of the events happening because there is no narrative complexity to make things interesting. Joel and Ellie just wander around for a full year just getting into trouble without any progress...and when they finally reach their destination, Joel simply decides to make the whole journey pointless with his last decision...making everything a complete waste of time when you realize the outcome of the journey when it ended is the same when started...if Joel and Ellie died or sat on their asses and do nothing...it wouldn't change anything.

    • @lifeistoofuckingshort3213

      Miyakolover pay attention. The Last Of Us is about Joel and Ellie. They start as two people who dont really want to be with one another and they end up loving each other as family. The cure for the infection? That was just a plot device, really. If you dont think that the story in TLOU was handled amazingly then it seems to me that you hardly know how good storytelling works.

    I think you are really missing the point when playing this game, the game is not trying to prove to you how great it is by showing all the variety of game play or amazing graphics or complex story. No, the purpose of the game was to present a natural and interactive story for the player to immerse himself in. Now if you start playing this game with the mentality of "impress me" then nothing will satisfy you.

    • @thewindowkeeper
      @thewindowkeeper 10 років тому

      But, the story isn't as natural as it could be. The beginning of the game shows promise, but then, it cuts to twenty years later, introducing characters that we have no back ground to at all. This means we don't have the context of these characters that the main characters do. This also means that, if I don't know the characters in the same context, I'm not going to have the emotional impact that is expected. This is especially when the characters are so short lived. As for being immersive,it felt too limited for me to be immersed in it, and not just with puzzles. The combat was limited to shorting poorly, or fist fighting. Okay, even though he's had twenty years of experience. But, what about survival techniques? Only a few items can be made, and... that's about it.

    • @thewindowkeeper
      @thewindowkeeper 10 років тому

      Sorry for the long reply. I wasn't going into this with the "Impress Me" thing in mind. If I did, I'd hate half of the games I love. But, I've had so many people saying how this game was impressive, that it is hard not to feel underwhelmed for not liking it. The big issues were that the story left me really confused with characters it introduced after the time jump, and the fact that the survival mechanics where fight and hide, both of which were sub par. Is there a good reason Joel can't aim straight? I can see how a lead pipe would be cumbersome, but why are my fists a better weapon?, It breaks survival instinct if I have to resort punching a guy to death a close range because all of my melee weapons suck. Now, if it told the story of what happened between the beginning, and meeting Ellie, personally, I would find that more interesting.

    • @randyho8128
      @randyho8128 10 років тому

      how are your fist a better weapon?( i wouldn't know because i only used them when i needed to, the thought of fighting dudes with highly contagious fungi with my fist was never appealing to me) as for the combat in general, it was amazing. The viability of every approach was liberating and philosophy of combat was natural, For the most part stealth was not treated as a way to play the game, but more as a necessity of the game, as drawing enemies through a fire fight would bring unnecessary danger and loss of resources. However despite this necessity, getting caught was also another part of the game that was thoroughly thought out. Too often in stealth action games, are players penalized with a grades or negative consequence for getting caught in the game, often times leading to a game over screen or a chart saying how much of shitty ninja you are, but in the last of us that is not so. The developers wanted players to get caught and figure out ways to escape those particular predicaments. Frantic improvisation was one of my favorite parts of the game. I would be sneakily taking out guys only to get caught, so i quickly shoot a guy and take him hostage to make my quick getaway. From there i do classic shootout with the enemies. I don't know about you, but that's cinema material. As for the story point where you are thrown into the world with no context, well i think trying to give exposition of everything that happened to Joel and his friends and the world would be boring and unrealistic to see in the game. Do you want a cut scene leading up to this point or play a lot of meaningless gameplay just to see more exposition. The story is minimalistic, giving players enough information to care for what really matters. I could say more but i think you should watch the video "Everything the last of us gets right" would say everything i wanted to say in more elegant way.

    • @thewindowkeeper
      @thewindowkeeper 10 років тому

      randy ho I mainly used my fists in the stealth segments against the people. At least, I tried, until the swing of the pipe was too slow to make contact before dying. It ends up being more of a speed vs strength battle, where the faster weapon wins. While I can see what you're saying about stealth and getting caught (I honestly think grading purely on stealth in a stealth/action is a bit inane myself),and I do agree to an extent, I found that causing a shoot out was a better way to get things done than sneaking. It's not just The Last of Us that had this issue (looking at you, Hitman). Frankly, in my opinion, Dishonored did the thinking-on-your-feet better, but to each their own. Finally, the no context thing. I did a follow up video last night where I came up with this suggestion: a DLC where you play as Joel during those twenty years between the beginning and the main game, where you learn the survival skills. There's all ready an Ellie DLC coming out. What irked me more, though, was being introduced to characters that, I felt, were important to Joel, but the introductions were rushed. In the case of Bob, I had no idea who he was other than "we have to kill him." I thought Bob was Joel's brother until later on in the same part (I'm terrible with names). I felt no connection between any of the characters aside from Joel because of this. And, as a writer, that bothers me when I do it. But, also, as a gamer, I felt that, even being minimalistic, the story didn't give me much to care about when all was said and done.

    Spec Ops: The Line was amazing. All of the small details that many people over looked in it just make the whole atmosphere in it stand out above every modern war game made recently. And the way it straddled the line between fun and horrifying was just sheer perfection. About MoH, you're right. Just because it wasn't Call of Duty, and was more mature than it, reviewers had to reach for something bad to say about it. And it just comes off as, "We don't like it because it has a point."
