I disagree with the color analysis. I’ve seen many podcasters discuss their results. I can only think of one who got accurate results. I really think your color preferences are the ones that look good on you. Please keep knitting with the warm tones!!!💗💗💗

@@sarahlovesdonuts9601the whole idea of aligning your skin tone etc with the seasons of the year is kinda random I think. Except for Autumn with it's obvious with greens and golds and russets etc, I think the others are much the same. I can hardly tell the difference in some of the 'spring' suggestions from the 'summer' suggestions to be honest. And I've also noticed they put the same celebs in different categories. Lol. You sound like I did when I got my colours done in 1987. It was done in person, and going in, I was certain I was a summer. My mom and brother were summers, I have fair hair, pale skin, and blue/gray eyes. Actually, I had really secretly hoped I was a spring (even though I knew I wasn't). Just like you, I loved the light, warm, clear colours in the spring pallet. I was completely shocked and blindsided to learn I was actually a tawny autumn (autumn with an emphasis on golden overtones to my colours.) That was the one season I just "knew" I wasn't. But seeing the fabrics actually draped over me, there was no denying that I looked healthy rather than pale, and actually glowed in those colours. At first I was so disappointed. I considered the colours to look muddy compared to my beloved spring colours, and the summer colours I was used to. But after getting used to the colours that looked good on me, I have learned to love them. Any other season's colours actually make my clothes look cheap on me, as they tend to on everyone. You are definitely a summer colouring. Give the summer colours a bit of a chance. Don't get rid of your favourites by any means, but maybe use those colours as accent colours in future projects instead, and continue to wear and enjoy the clothing you have already made and love in the spring tones. I still occasionally wear things that aren't my colours for fun, but I can clearly see that they don't suit me. I had thought I had a naturally pale and sallow completion. Turns out I was wrong. The wrong colours are definitely useful next to a person's face if they aren't feeling well and want the fact to be taken seriously, like by the doctor, or at work, or by a spouse, though. Lol.

      @Wearewoolpeople 4 дні тому

I'm going to keep that wrong colour tip in mind next time I go to the doctor - hilarious! Thanks for the comment, I think I will lean into the cooler tones for summer and see what happens. I have to admit I often don't see much difference when I look at those videos showing all the coloured scarves being draped on a person. I looked at your avatar and that beautiful gold does look lovely in your picture. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

@@Wearewoolpeople yes, I wouldn't have gone near that colour before having my colours done. I lived in pastel blue, navy, and dove gray. That gold mustard colour was probably one of my least favourite colours, along with olive green, tomato orangy red, and rust. They are all my most worn colours now, and I have learned to love them.

I couldn’t agree with you more about colour analysis. I’ve watched a lot of videos on the subject and quite honestly other than in a couple of instances (which both involved a shade of yellow) I’ve never been able to see that the person looked any better or worse in the difference seasons/palettes. Like you, I think that they key to looking good is feeling good/happy/confident about ourselves (a big ask) and anything we can do to help us along the way towards feeling that should be embraced, including wearing colours that we love even if the gurus would throw their hands up in horror. Your knits are fabulous and all look wonderful on you. As a Brit about to go into Autumn my winter queue has been heavily inspired by the projects you’ve shown so far on your channel. I just need a whole heap more knitting time 😂 Am really enjoying your podcasts and look forward to each new one appearing in my UA-cam feed - really appreciate your direct and honest honest opinions. Thank you so much for taking the time to make your podcasts.

I admit I often can't see any difference in those colour matching videos either and I think they sometimes use editing to brighten the one you're supposed to see pop. I think I'll experiment with leaning into these 'light summer' colours over the next few months and see how they go. But it was a bit of fun to do either way and I'm definitely still going to be wearing warm pink. Thank you for commenting, I really appreciate it.

Your levitate wrap is better than you think, sometimes we get so close to things and as you said we have quite a serious investment and when it doesn’t reach what we anticipated 😣 Your colourwork is gorgeous, love what you chose 💪🏻 I love shawls and wraps and I throw them on with no regard to how I look, it’s all about comfort for me, I think I’ve just discovered my style Boho Bag Lady 😅😂😂 Colour analysis, I’m so crap at it I just pick colours I like, as long as I stay away from the mirror I don’t see what they look like on me I just look down and go oh that’s pretty. Ailsa, that mohair yarn you bought looks delicious! I've gone on the website for wagtailyarn and I'm definitely going to try this yarn. My question for you, since you've been able to see and touch the yarn: Is there a difference in yarn appearance for the the various weights (other than thickness) - I particularly loved the shine/glow of the yarn - is that consistent in the various weights? Help is appreciated!

I wish I could frog it again to be honest, but it's already been frogged once and I don't think the fluffy yarn will stand up to another one. The colour of the wrap is very good on you, but you are not happy with the result. Wouldn’t you rather unravel and use the exclusive yarn for a garment you will love to wear? It might be frustrating with the time you have spent knitting and modifying, but the wrap will perhaps end up unworn in your wardrobe? What about a cozy sweater or a simple, buttoned cardigan where the bulky yarn combination could blossom? I cannot help thinking that the designer has suggested a yarn combination far too bulky for a double edged wrap. Thank you for sharing :)

    • @Wearewoolpeople

Hi Kris! I’ve already frogged it completely once and I’m not confident the yarn will hold up to another frog. I hope I do get at least some wear out of it. I completely agree about the bulky yarn being not the best choice for the designer, particularly in the front.

I really don't think that the Magnum Opus garment knits/crochets are any worse, or really, are maybe even less work, than some of the big shawls, or wraps, or a blanket or afghan. For some reason, it just seems more daunting when it's a large garment. But people think nothing of starting a large non garment item. Maybe it's because our bodies change over time so there is the risk of it not fitting or suiting us after it is made, whereas it isn't an issue for a blanket or shawl. Your blanket is stunning.

I agree with you, the scope of a large project is so subjective. At the end of the day even the largest and most complex of makes are just a single stitch after another from beginning to end arent they?

Oooh how wonderful. One of your videos this evening while I’m knitting! I love your channel. I love your taste. I’m a new knitter and really admire what you work on and the foibles you share with us. The magnum opus dress pattern is just stunning. And my god…that crocheted blanket!

From the U K, i love fairisle knitting,i do it with both hands, and having changes of colour,it seems to knit up faster❤

Thanks for commenting - I do my fair isle with both hands as well, I feel lucky my hands/brain just naturally did it that way right from the start. I've tried continental knitting but it doesn't feel natural to me.

Hi there, thanks for commenting on my post, I super appreciate it. I've noticed the English tailoring shoulder shaping is on a lot of Scandinavian patterns as well. I love it, I'll check out those patterns you suggest too. I love pattern suggestions.

Thanks for your comment Chris, thanks for sticking with those earlier ones with the terrible sound quality. I'm still learning, I keep forgetting to say goodbye properly. I love Torquay, we used to go there to surf when I was a teenager - very special place.

Hello from Northern New South Wales 👋 lovely to see another Aussie knitter. Love the red sweater, very dramatic. Look forward to seeing your levitate wrap. Thanks for sharing, happy knitting, Karen

Hi Karen, I've been looking at your beautiful Ravelry projects for YEARS, so nice to meet you. You have great taste in patterns and your project pics are great. The levitate wrap is a RIP WIP I'm afraid, I've switched it out for a May Ball sweater from Florence. It was too floppy. :-(

@@Wearewoolpeople Oh thanks so much. RIP WIP oh dear. I watched your video and yes it does look like an oversized wrap. Best thing to do, rip it out and not let it sit. Happy knitting and see you next time x

Hi from the Gold Coast. Your Red Jumper looks Great on You! Love the Wrap top and I do like the detail on the shoulder from the back. Not sure if you already know of it, there is an app called knitting companion, it’s great for storing your patterns from Ravelry but what I love is you can write notes on the bottom of the pages and and there are row counters on the side to keep you on track. Did I hear you say you were in Qld? Then you said you were near Helensburgh? That’s NSW. Have fun with all the Dogs lol 😂. Maree ❤

Thanks for your comment - I'm in NSW near Helensburgh, I hope I didn't say I was in Queensland (I think I was talking about the little yarn store). I do have knitting companion but I haven't worked out how to use it effectively - I should work on that.

I agree color theory and putting them together is a talent! I was a quilter and struggled so much with putting colors together. Some people can just look at them and know what goes & what doesn't. I'm in the US, TN outside Nashville. Hi!

Hi there in Nashville-ish viewer, thanks so much for commenting. I wish I was better with choosing good color palletes - I'd knit way more fair isle if I was. Sometimes I think that there is a gap in the fair isle kit or bundle market - I know there are some but I wish there was an online store dedicated to it. I'd be their first customer lol. Take it easy, thanks for watching. Ailsa

Thanks you again!. You'll be suprised how fast you will go from beginner to an adventurous knitter. At the end of the day it's only variations of knit and purl and where you put the stick isn't it?
