I suspected that there was a leak in my cooling system and added dye to expose it. This ended up better than expected with a simple radiator replacement! I didn't film the replacement because there are already videos available for that which I'll link below. I do provide some good tips and detail about everything that will help along the way. Feel free to leave questions and I will answer them ASAP!

    Thanks for your content! I'm "hoping" I only need to replace my power steering pump in my 99 Mustang GT. I have 323K miles on it, and it screeches when I start up in the morning, and when I make left turns at a slow speed. Steering is stiffer than normal. I have leaking, but it's coolant so I don't think it''s related and my PS fluid is not going down at all. Researching the issue led to learning about the Hydro boost as I was thinking of replacing the hoses, and I kept running across diagrams pointing that out. I think I don't want to open a can of worms and will just replace the PS pump. I did get the high pressure hose and may just replace that along with. I will also order a new reservoir. I'll let you know how it goes... Oh, I do notice the steering wheel responds a bit when I brake at a slow speed (like 10 to 15 mph). I feel the steering wheel slightly jolt right as I break. So, now that I understand the relationship of the hydroboost to "both" the power steering and the power break, it makes sense that if the PS is having issues, it may affect the power break, as that is where it's getting it's "power" from.

    • @jvvarietychannel1601
      @jvvarietychannel1601 5 місяців тому

      Wow 323k! Is it the original motor and transmission!? These motors are so solid, it just amazes me. Your suspicion about the break/steering makes sense. Where do you notice the dripping coming from?

    Thanks for putting in the work! Hard to find any rebuild vids that are specific to Mustangs, especially SN95's. I just ordered my rebuild kit and will be doing this job this weekend on a 96 GT. I haven't dug into it yet, but according to the Haynes manual, it says you should be able to remove the master cylinder and place off to the side without removing the hydraulic lines. It also says "make sure you don't kink or bend these lines or they will have to be replaced." Guess I'll find out soon lol

      Haha...you're welcome man! I can confirm. I recently helped a fellow Mustang club member swap out his. I was able to do it in under 1.5 hours by using long extensions and yeah, it was tight, but was able to push the MC to the front of the car and swap it out without disconnecting the lines. If you do kink one of the brake lines, you can get cheap replacements from O'Reilly's. Just measure the length and they're good to go. The main thing on that is just to make sure you get the correct size fitting

    • @jvvarietychannel1601
      @jvvarietychannel1601 7 місяців тому

      You know what...funny that you ask. I had a drop that started late last year. What I found was that it was the O-rings on the little return area that sits closest to the outside of the car when it's installed (the rubber hose connects to the main port of it). I was able to remove that part with a wrench, replace the O-rings, and reinstall without touching any other bolts. I did notice that you can get rebuilt hydroboosts from Advance Auto now so if I had to do this job again, I'd probably go that route

      Hello! No, only did this because of the leak. If you have a stiff pedal, I would probably check the functionality of the calipers first and the master cylinder 2nd. Make sure your MC is correct for the car. If it's OK and the proper part #, AND the calipers are functional, definitely look at the booster. But not until you're certain of the MC and all calipers

Could not stop it from leaking. So I bought a used but good unit off eBay and it worked for a week then started to leak out of the weep hole just like my factory one. If this next one still leaks and you have it in you to try again, you could always try Rock Auto's rebuild option. Might take awhile though. Otherwise I'd say screw it and take it somewhere. This is not a recommended for an untrained technician to do the work. You even referred to the microfarads as "VF", when in fact it is uF. Clearly you are untrained and shouldn't be changing out high voltage items like capacitors. If you are unsure of how to diagnose a bad capacitor then you should call a professional. There is a reason HVAC technicians require special certifications. Giving advice you don't even know about isn't very wise. If someone gets shocked or breaks their equipment, you can be held liable.

    • @Balticblue93
      @Balticblue93 Рік тому

      @@flyingjeff1984 LOL! I don't need to be an attorney to know what is legal and what isn't, in my line of my life’s work. First off, I am an ICC G29 Master Mechanical Contractor license holder. I own an HVAC and Home performance business in Denver, Colorado. I am well qualified to make a post on this thread. A Master Mechanical contractor is governed by the same entity that Master Electricians and Plumbers are. So, when someone is making videos that they have no business encouraging homeowners to be messing with then I am going to say something. First off, changing capacitors and contactors in the high-voltage systems is not for DIY'ers. If you don't know the difference between VF and uF, then you shouldn't be messing with it. Microfarads will light you up, unless you discharge the capacitor. This exactly why the EPA regulates refrigerants and we require an EPA 608 Universal certification to buy, sell or work with such materials. Do you think HVAC techs just magically appear? Most technicians have a two year associates degree in Thermodynamics and HVAC/R. Any other questions?

    • @flyingjeff1984
      @flyingjeff1984 Рік тому

      @@Balticblue93 Actually, in your state, a person who offers legal advice without a law license can be prosecuted by the Colorado Supreme Court. Our original poster is trying to save us from unscrupulous HVAC techs. I am a young 70 so my life experience is limited but I can tell you that in my part of the country, HVAC techs are nothing more than commissioned sales persons. Cap goes out? New unit. Schrader valve leak? New unit. And on it goes. Now, if a person goes to work on a high voltage piece of equipment without first deenergizing......they probably do other dumb things as well.

      @@flyingjeff1984 LMAO!! Well, bring it on!! Fire up those lawyers and put me in front of the Colorado Supreme Court!! I am all about it!! I would love the opportunity. I never once said anything about a commissioned HVAC technician or what money it costs. I clearly state that the job should be left to a trained professional as it is dealing with high voltage power and is not for a DIYer home user. Insurance companies will not pay out if a homeowner is at fault for a problem like a fire or big issue, so in the best interest for the homeowner, you let a qualified technician do the work. That certainly isn't legal advice, it is facts. Caps goes out in the heat or in condensers that are not kept clean and maintained on a yearly basis. I certainly don't sell equipment my client doesn't need nor even suggest it. You clearly have had a bad experience with that 1% that are bad business folks and I am sorry that happened to you. There are some big businesses that do do shady tactics, but I was not raised that way nor do business like those types. I am an honest business man and technician. I do charge for my time, knowledge, education. I try to stay on the mid to lower end of the Denver market pricing when possible, but I need to stay competitive also. However, I don't suggest new units because replaceable consumable short life cycle items or parts like a capacitor, contactor, or a Schrader valve / leak (which shouldn't happen if the cap has a good O-rings in it). But I do check for leaks on the entire indoor and outdoor coil when I do planned maintenance, twice a year with new filters and make sure all is well. It is just like a car. If you do proper maintenance and it will last for 15-20 years easy. But you go ahead and call up those lawyers and make sure charges are filed against me for looking out for the customers best interests. I look forward to it!!! It makes me laugh you get your feelings hurt over facts. And yes, people who play with high voltage equipment probably do other dumb things, but an unqualified person would do such of a thing by working on an AC unit without the proper skills or training. Make sure you show up to my court hearings, so I can shake your hand!! You will have to reach to my side because I will be in shackles, but all the same, Thank God the world has people like you to come on UA-cam to fight for the little uneducated DIYer homeowner. So the liability actually falls on you, if you think these practices in this video is acceptable for a homeowner. Why do we need HVAC businesses, if the homeowners can just so easily fix and do all their own work? I guess I better go find a new profession now since everyone can do all the work a trained HVAC technician can. After I get out of prison, I will make sure I have used my time to gain another degree and maybe I will practice HVAC law and become an expert such as yourself. Happy 4th!! Hey man….you can probably tell from the video that I’m definitely not an expert. The ONLY reason I did this job was because of the leak. Have you done any maintenance to your brakes lately? If not, it can be tough to troubleshoot, but we might be able to figure it out

      @@jvvarietychannel1601 yeah i found no leaks , pretty positive it's not master cylinder or I don't belive it would hold pressure at all .I think I might have found my pro kem this morning with bad read caliper

      @@joshuadandy7116 well, let me know how it goes after you change it. Check out Eric the Car Guy and his brake troubleshooting videos. It could be one of those rubber lines blowing up and I think it could still be your master cylinder. The way the seals go bad on those things can cause what you’re talking about

      Yeah, not extremely fun. Part of what made it crappy was that it was winter and I stripped out that brake line/master cylinder port. If I had to do it again, it would go quite a bit smoother

      @@jvvarietychannel1601 for sure that’s the market…I paid $8500 (before the spike) in 2019 with 80k miles 03 centennial edition…I probably overpaid at the time also, but honestly the extra money to get what you want when you want is worth it to me…

      @@NewEdgeDesigns yeah, screw it. If I sell it in a year or two for only 8,000 so be it. I had a couple of good years with it and got some enjoyment out of it and lost a couple grand. Big deal. I like the special models like the centennials! It's just a cool little bonus that makes the car stand out.....other than just being a new edge that's in nice condition
