One Step Heel - Training In A Small Space
Filmed during COVID Lockdown July 2021
Here’s a fun training game you can do in a small space that will improve your dog’s focus and engagement - you don’t need treats, just use your dog’s regular food and spend a few minutes feeding your dog their meal by hand as they stand next to you. Then add our “One Step Heel” exercise.
Yes, you really can teach your dog to walk next to you, without actually having to move!

Teaching a Kick-Back (Pop-Up) Stand for Obedience and Rally
Переглядів 6 тис.4 роки тому
Three different methods for teaching your dog a "kick-back" stand, in which the dog's front feet remain in place and the dog pops up into the stand by moving it's back legs out. In a kick-back stand, the dog does not creep forward. Creeping forward can take the dog out of heel position, or cause the dog to move too great a distance when performing change of position exercises. Method 1 - teach ...

Body Handling Exercises - Puppy, Beginner and Basic Classes
Переглядів 1894 роки тому
It is important to teach our dogs to accept handling so that we can groom them, cut their nails, check them for lumps or scratches, clean their teeth etc. This will help reduce stress during Vet visits. You can make physical handling a positive experience by giving the dog treats at the same time as you handle them. Giving a name to each body part you are touching helps the dog to understand wh...
Walking Track Manners - Learning To Ignore Distractions
Переглядів 3294 роки тому
It's important to teach our dogs to ignore distractions, and to pay attention to the person who is walking them. Letting your dog "Say Hello" to every dog or person they pass can lead to your dog becoming much more interested in other dogs and people than it is in you, and as a result you may struggle to have any influence or control over your dog when these distractions are around. If your dog...

Walking On Lead Exercises for Puppies and Beginners
Переглядів 2614 роки тому
Dogs pull on the lead because they have learned that if they pull, they will get to move forward in the direction they want to go. If you walk behind your dog when they are pulling, it’s like you are giving them a big reward. These are the two exercises we start with in Puppy and Beginner Class. The first step in teaching your dog not to pull on the lead is to teach your dog to "follow" you. If...
