So much has happened... Game Engines should be Neutral... everyone uses them and everyone has different beliefs and positions. I really don't like drama nor politics... specially on FOSS, which I use constantly... Hope the best for Redot and hopefully Godot becomes neutral in the future. Then, regarding Games, these are a form of artistic expression, allowing creators and players to explore their passions. Ultimately, games should be fun, and I don't mind politics in games only if these are for a specific target audience (like woke or anti-woke games). I don't like when it's forcefully inserted into the game, and I'm a Furry saying this... Not everyone will play them, but I mean, these are games, not tools or game engines. Idk...

I wish I was experienced enough in C++ to contribute to Redot, for now I'm just learning.

As long as Redot will be programmed with C++, it is certainly not an adequate alternative. Also, I can't really imagine a fork. The topic of community problems is completely normal in the open source. In the best case scenario, this gets the community talking about topics. And anyway, while non-devs (not you) are posting their dysfunctional crap, it's the wrong time to talk about any change. How are they supposed to know what a good game engine is? They can't even distinguish open source like Godot from commercial products like Unity. Here you just have to wait and see. When the smoke clears, we'll see...

The funny thing is, the idea of free & open-source software(FOSS) is woke if you think about it. Ask yourself, what is FOSS? it's software that is FREE, free to use, contribute, modify, and redistribute. Do you know what else is commonly known for free things? communism, which is woke. Proprietary software is privately owned which makes it capitalist, or not woke. FOSS = communism = woke Proprietary = capitalism = not woke People who hate wokeness should understand the hypocrisy of hating wokeness while using free & open-source software. EDIT: Also, People who think FOSS and politics shouldn't mix, well, creating FOSS is a political decision to give people more freedom, control, and ownership over software which proprietary software doesn't allow.

Some people are trying to make false pull requests on Redot because there mad. Godot banned people for their opinions, and now Godot thinks they have the power to destory a fork just because someone didnt like. They were _actively_ doing what gamers hated; and so actual smart gamedevs spoke against it.

Godot requires a community, and communities are composed of diverse peoples. The team chose to show support for tolerance in diversity, which some people consider "political". They could have just ignored that. If they had said "Go Colombians! Show us your Colombian games!" (to put an example), no one would have reacted in this manner. You have to actively hate others to react to such statements. Piece of advise: Gay and trans people will always exist, and they have a right to exist and live fully. Same with people of color. Same with people on the left side of the political spectrum. Learn how to deal with it.

I don't understand at all what the problem is? What Really Happened to Godot? To me, this looks like another problem created out of thin air. What is the politics, what is the essence of anger? Someone was banned, why was they banned? Please explain.

They are for the moment literally just copying godot, i dont really see this lasting longer then the shit storm, maybe just a bit longer, but there is essentially no reason to use redot, yeah i am not a leftist, and i also dont like the whole woke shit they are pulling over social media, and i think they learned their lesson about letting the social media manager post whatever they want and give them free reign, since some people just cant seperate their believe system and work. Altough if it keeps happening and they still let their social media get run into the ground then yeah, i see how redot could succeed over time, especially as it differentiates itself from the normal godot since yeah godot is a powerful engine but by far more confusing then other engines, especially with the version differences and all the changes and deprecated functions you still find when trying to learn gdscript.

It not easy task when dev get ban from github for those work hard to be use as weapon. It clearly open src and they can't handle critics. The more hate on fork for trolling, hate and report about the new branch engine rise red flag that they trying force them back to Godot engine. They suppose to talk instead out right ban people who are dev people working on the game project.

When you are so painfully conservative, you have to fork software so you don't get triggered too hard while developing games. Honestly people should be a little less sensitive about who makes the tools they use and worry more about their own product. Over the years in software dev I've used software from countless companies I didn't agree with. I built the product, got paid, and moved on with my life.

i am SO beyond thankful they are holding the team behind godot accountable for this sort of stuff lets start it off by mentioning that some of their discord mods are absolutely horrible, just no other word to describe them, they are absolutely horrendous human beings that to be honest should be regulated, ill touch on the discord stuff a little later the marketing is weird, not the duolingo like marketing, thats fine, some people like that (i personally dont) but the way they indirectly wire and program people into what is like a cult, hear me out, there is a reason why in a game jam, three contestants' *special* thing that they use to stand out, is maybe their style; maybe one does horror games, maybe another is really good with graphics, maybe the third one knows to how 3d model very well...... but then the other 2 contestants are just like "i use godot". this probably sounds really corny and silly, but trust me, you will start noticing stuff, and oh yeah... that was a very simple example, there are a lot of other stuff that you will start noticing, that are what resemble a cult like following i was going to be using godot back in 2022, but i chose against it BECAUSE of the way its run, i have always had a bad feeling about the team behind it, especially the discord, it is... against what most people believe, not very welcoming, i know i know, ill explain myself, its just like stackoverflow, everybody tries to be welcoming, they say hello, and reply to your message frequently, but if you try joking or tipping your toes into their inner circle most of the OG's talk you down its like a gang istg so with all that said, just use your own common sense (because i explained this so bad and skipped many points) and tell me, is it really that surprising that they are comfortable getting themselves into political matter and what would be personal beliefs, AND censor anybody who sees otherwise, like i really do not have to explain how bad of a look and just bad of a behavior that is they always had that karen with short purple hair vibe istg jokes aside i might have not explained that perfectly, heck i did a horrible job doing so, but i hope the point is clear

It's taken the shine off the project for me, knowing such cliche archetypes are consciously posted into public-facing positions, and that the foundation chose to back them instead of reprimanding and asserting that their project is politically neutral. It's perfectly congruous to be accepting of people with different sexual preferences, while also being against the militant ideology that's stolen the original movement's lexicon and iconography. An open source game engine shouldn't care whether you're an feminist or a clan member. It comprises the efforts of many different people; who would have the audacity to speak for all of them?

Dude, it doesn't matter if you think it's a drama, the people who support and supported the project did it precisely because it seemed unique and different, you know? I saw people who had more than 1000 hours in Godot commenting that it didn't seem right, even if you (a person) support something, don't insert it into a community as if it were something made in time, the focus was always the development of the engine. Politics, ideology or religion were out of scope. The godot is open source so any body can update this engine or remake to what ever they want it to be so I don’t think it will end but some will probably leave godot but I’m going to stay with it

The godot CM is right, they overdid the blocks but the responses they got are way too nuclear Most of the "pissed" people are literally culture warmongers that only talk about politics and have never tweeted about gamedev or engines There is very obviously a group of people trying to mess with anything LGTB, that have nothing to do with open source or game engines, creating a mostly fake sense of unrest And the fact that redot follows grumz when they say they are "not politic" speaks for itself This wouldn't be a culture war if there weren't people fighting
