Hi. This was 3years ago, nothing since, so am I to understand you are no longer making videos ?
I don't own a blender, I have no intention of buying one either, I was hoping to see what to do with dry fine white crumb i bought from my local tackle shop, I have had a go with it, sparingly damping it, mixed by hand for quite awhile, sieving it threw a pinkies riddle got me very little, forcing through the riddle basiclly buggered it, am no further on and no, I am pushing 80, been an angler for 60 years, thought bread might be a cheap way to go to me keep fishing.
These videos have given me hope. Recently moved to east of Louth and am desperate to have some ''none commercial '' fishing. Have one or two drains I want to try...but very full at the moment. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it. Good luck with your fishing.
Very informative, thankyou very much. ✌❤ Bob.
Do you ever eat the catch?
Only if they are of a size that you can a decent fillet from, unless they are gut hooked (when they go into fishcakes). Believe in catch and release where possible, if they are not worth taking to give a decent meal.
Where was this filmed
Trusthorpe, near Mablethorpe.
Happy New Year. I live in Skegness but am having trouble finding silvers lakes. Pine-trees small lake used to be great for skimmers, ide, and roach, but I've been told they don't allow non residents to fish it now. Any ideas for other silver lakes near Skeg? Tight lines. Love the videos.
Thanks for the nice comment and happy New Year to you also. There are very few out and out silver fish lakes as carp puddles tend to dominate. Roach Farm on the main road into Skegness tends to fish well for silvers in winter, although there are plenty of carp. Sycamore lakes (although quite expensive) does produce some good Roach on the specimen lake. Once the weather warms up the carp dominate. Sorry can't be of more help.
Yes I've fished roach farm and sycamore and the carp tend to eventually spoil the session. Middle Lake at Faulners has very nice bream but also a lot of line busters. The fishery beneath the two wind vanes I had a huge bag of mixed silvers. I might try there again. That or it's the steeping and drains. I'm off down the steeping after pike/perch first though. Thanks for the reply and tight lines for 2023. Ivan
@@Sausage1958 No problem. Wish there were more out and out silver fish lakes.
Thanks for sharing your days fishing , i`ve picked up a few tips from you , so cheers matey.
Glad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the nice comment.
Nice video Derek - can you still fish the Lymn near the bridge on Ashby Road - assume it would be upstream of the bridge - I know the landowners round there have changed recently!
I don't know is the honest answer. I did see a car parked on the bridge the other day, but sometimes it is walkers, etc. The deepest holes are definitely upstream, although the fish population of the lymn in this area has been impacted by mink.
Hi pal great and easy video to follow well explained. One question what fish is that for attracting . Is it the likes of roach, rudd, or could I use it on its own or will I need to add other things.
It is mostly for silverfish as you describe, I mainly use it in winter. Personally I never use additives, but if it gives you more confidence try a few. There seems a few for sale on the commercial market using spices.
@@eastcoastangler7058 thanks for your reply and advice really appreciate it 👍
Hello, I just wanna ask one. I am just about to falling love with beach fishing, surf fishing, and I`ve read a lot of good things about Skegness Ingoldmells beach and Chapel point. Smoothound and stingrays are in good number, sea bass, cod. I`ve never been in Skegness before, but this weekend I wanna go there to check the fishing opportunities, ask around in the fishing stores. I couldn`t find any info about prices, is it free fishing or day ticket fishery? Or maybe membershift only? Thanks 😉
The sea fishing along all the areas you mentioned are all free fishing. You do however have to pay to park at most of these places. There have been some good smooth hounds coming out, caught on crab, usually at long range casting. The fishing is always hit and miss, but every tide can produce different results. Good luck.
@@eastcoastangler7058 Thank you☺
Are you allowed to keep the fish you catch?
There are size limits for the fish that can be kept. Bass regulations are on the government website www.gov.uk/government/publications/bass-industry-guidance-2021/bass-fishing-guidance-2021
Is fishing free at skegness beach?
Yes mate. Although most of fishing marks now have pay and display car parks.
How long ago was this mate? And how often was you pulling them in ?
16th December 2019. There have been very few codling caught the last few years on this area of coast, but plenty of whiting and dabs.
great video just got my first whip what is the name of your keeper net
The keepnet is an old Brollnet silverfish and the weigh net is a Grandslam one. Don't think either are still made now.
Where is this please?
Trusthorpe, near mablethorpe.
It's amazing how camera shy those fish can be, but it reminds me of a farmer I once worked for many years ago who had two sheep dogs, one day when they were playing him up, I asked him "when are they at their worst?" He replied "usually when someone's watching" 🙂 Very enjoyable videos, keep them coming 👍
Thanks for the nice comment. Glad you enjoyed it.
reminds me of the upper witham at beckingham
Yes a bit of old fashioned fishing. Since filming this video there has been several mink sightings on the river and now it is rare to catch anything, very sad.
I started fishing again last year after not doing it since I was a kid. Tried liquidised bread and punch on the hook for the first time a few weeks ago on my local lake, caught a ton of roach and Rudd plus 4 bonus carp, one mirror about 9lbs on a 6mm bread punch! Looking forward to trying this method to get the liquidised bread much finer, thanks mate!
Sounds like you had a great session, very well done. If there are that many fish feeding it may not be necessary to do it too fine, it certainly didn't stop them feeding on your last session, so it seems that was correct for that day. The reason for doing it finer, particularly in winter for smaller fish, is not to feed them too much food that may fill them up quickly.
@@eastcoastangler7058 Ah I see, thanks for the info, much appreciated! To be fair, that session was epic, the best I’ve had this year! I’m happy catching anything swimming to be honest, the carp were a welcome surprise as I rarely catch them.
@@steoscar Hope you have many more epic days.
well done mate very good 👍👍👍
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it.
@eastcoast angler nicely put together video mate
Great video! Thankyou...one question..is it ever worthwhile adding a bit of something extra? I've heard of people using strawberry angel delight or icing sugar to add to the mix
Personally, I never do. I have seen anglers try different additves and colourings, but never seen it produce any better results. Fishing ,to me, is a lot about confidence in the baits you use, this way you tend to stick with that method and give it time to work rathher than chopping and changing too quickly. If using an additive gives you confidence by all means try it.
@@eastcoastangler7058 cheers these are proper fishing videos!
@@hounddogjonny Thanks for the nice comment and glad you enjoyed it.
Bloody brilliant. Hope to fish my local Dorset stour tomorrow
Thanks for the nice reply. Was down Dorset a few weeks ago, but not for fishing. Fished the Stour at Blandford and Fiddleford Mill a few years ago, lovely river. Hope you do well.
Thinking of having a day at North Shore in the next couple of weeks. How far do you need to cast? It’s not my strong point. I normally look for piers or harbour walls. Cheers.
Flatties and bass can be caught near in, sometimes within 10 yards, although the norm is to fish at range (whatever you can throw). Always worth having a look over low water to search out any gullies. Catches have been very hit and miss recently. Good luck.
Where’s best to whip fish for free with just a rod license in the area I’m based down sleaford way thanks
Not very familiar with fishing around the Sleaford area. I tend to mainly fish the drains along the east coast. Mostly fishing nearer the sea gates seem to hold more fish. These are down trusthorpe, sandilands, chapel st leonards. I will fish the bargate drain in Boston on the Horncastle road just past Pilleys Lane, but this is Boston Angling water and is day/season ticket. It is primarily a small fish tactic catching quickly, so any venue that fits this criteria would be good. Sorry can't be more help, hopefully someone with more knowledge around that area will comment.
Hi mate just arrived at Skegness looking to do some fishing whats best bait to use and where to get it been to fishing shop in inglemells and best place for parking and fishing been told huttoft beach is good thanks for any info great channel
WAGs tackle in Skegness, on Roman Bank, usually have a good stock of frozen sea bait. If Ricky serving he will put you right. Chapel Point there is a chap called Dud who sells frozen bait. He lives in the bungalow opposite the car park, easily spotted as he stands fishing rods for sale by his gate Trunch Lane, Chapel St Leonard’s , right at the end Lakeside Tackle usually have a good supply of frozen bait. Squid is as good as anything this time of year, unless you can get fresh peeler crab. Catches have beeen very hit and miss. You will need gripper lead weights to hold bottom most of time. Huttoft is the easiest for parking and beach fishing. Chapel six marshes, North of Chapel point will also usually get you away from the crowds. Most people fish 2 hours either side of high tide, although fish can turn up at any time, or not at all. Good luck.
@@eastcoastangler7058 thanks mate just watching all your vids
Watched this video for second time, definitely having a go in August....is it worth using light feeder ..what size o fish go up to ? Thanks Dave
Never seen anything above 12oz, apart from odd pike, but anything above 4oz should be classed as a better fish. I usually fish whip or pole, never seen anyone fish a feeder due to it being so narrow, but that is not to say it wouldn't work. Spoke to someone off the campsite next to it last year and he told me he fishes it in the summer and catches. Obviously in the summer there is more natural food and cover for the fish due to weed,etc.. Hope you do well, good luck.
Just found your channel, very nice video.. thanks
Thanks for the nice comment and glad you enjoyed it.
Hi ..we visit mabelthorpe every year for family holiday..on the Towervans site and I fish the pond on site virtually every day while wife goes into town.......I fished the other side drain to where your fishing many years ago with my son who was bout 10 then so about 25 years ago we fished down the side of what I presume was a pump house, had some big roach out and saw plenty of coi swimming about.think this was only peg on that side..but the following year the drain bed had been concreted saw no sign of fish so never fished it again ..never knew there was fish in the drain your fishing.....tight lines
Thanks for that. In the late 80's, before we moved down here, we also went to stay at Mablethorpe for holidays. I can remember the first time someone told me there were ghost carp in the drain I thought they were having me on, but then I did see some. Never caught one though. Hope things get better soon and you get back to Mablethorpe for more fishing.
Wrote initial post before end of video ,really surprised how much you caught... will definitely be trying here this year if we not in lockdown...2weeks in August. Fingers crossed 👍
Punch crumb is a separate product to liquidised bread. You have to mix punch crumb with water to dampen it.
question from my armchair.... u ever just feed bang in the middle an fish that side of it... this side of it ..and right in it. ? and when its bang on bite a chuck... can ya use synthetic bit of bread save time re baiting hook. ? just wondering like
It depends how many different lines I feed, but only one will be a bread line. This will then be judged on the length of whip I fish (3m, 3.5m, 4m),as I usually loose feed by hand the punch will be spread a bit anyway. If bites start to slow I will search the swim further out, further down, etc (especially if I have the pole set up), don't give up feeding this same line though as often they are disturbed by pike/perch and can return once these move on.. When it is solid I try a maggot or a pinkie on the hook to save changing hookbait. I have never tried synthetic bread, personally I have no confidence in imitation baits, but that does not mean it doesn't work.
@@eastcoastangler7058 i got some o those imitation maggots...very good they are.... was fishing in summer absolutely 2 bites a chuck etc..clonking silver every cast... one o them lovely days we occasionally get... put a synthetic maggot on......... struggled to get a bite.... i thought with bread being such a fragile bait you might be able to use a small shaped bit of sponge perhaps. ? i might try it next summer... would also hold a flavouring well.....
@@pmay222 Definitely on the red letter days, that is the time to try alternative/synthetic baits. My mate Derek Skinner is so skilled at bread punch fishing that he can re-bait with punch and cast quicker than I can fish normally with any bait, but he has really got this method to an art due to fishing it exclusively for many decades throughout the winter.
Would you mix this 50/50 with something like frenzied hemp for river roach?
Personally I have never tried it, not to saying that is right or wrong. With punch crumb I am trying to make it break down as I want it to, sometimes adding things may "clog" it or it make break down quicker, this is why I add gravel (inert material) to add weight and make it break up nearer the bottom in deeper swims. I do feed hemp as a seed, but do not usually add it to the crumb. Fishing is a lot about what you have confidence in, "if it works for you stick with it".
Love whip fishing its great fun . . Nice one
Thanks for that. A nice simple method for catching loads of fish quickly.
quick question never done sea fishing before but i have seen people fish in the sea with spinners when i went to cornwall once and i was just wondering would a spinner work at skegg beach ?
I personally have never seen anyone use a spinner. the beaches tend to be shallower and the water more coloured. The baits tend to be fish, worm or something with a good scent trail.
Looking to retire soon & move back up to Lincs from Northants - this inspires me to get out on the venues I fished as a young match angler in the 70's - Sibsey Trader, Hobhole, Ancholme, all stretches of the Witham. I guess they won't produce anything like what they once did but overstocked commercials don't hold the attraction they once did. Cheers
The Witham has produced some big Bream and Tench weights this year, followed by several blanks. The Bargate drain last week produced a 48lb match weight, followed by a pleasure angler having 18 Tench around the 5lb mark from the same peg the day after. As you say this is proper fishing when you never know what will happen, a blank or a great day. Thanks for commenting.
@@eastcoastangler7058 cheers. It's weird how things have changed - I never saw anyone catch a tench from the Witham back in the day, hemp was a summer bait yet I see others now using it in winter, everyone fished rod & reel (my preference too), & we were swingtipping brandlings for the bream......if we could get past the eels. Good times.
Thanks for the content. Have the lakes/ponds reopened in your area? Some of my usual spots are still closed but safety first.
Most of the lakes reopened with the exception of the odd private fishery where one of the family members were at risk. Saying that, according to the news, it is beginning to look like we may see more shutting very soon. Been a very strange year, keep safe and thanks for commenting.
@@eastcoastangler7058 Looks like nobody will be fishing for a while now. Hope this lockdown does it and life can go back to normal soon. Looking forward to your next video, whenever it is.
@@merryholiday9574 Angling Trust are saying that the government look like allowing fishing, although more details will be released monday, so possibly may be able to get out and drown a few maggots. Still think it will be with us for quite a while yet, but hope for good news to come sooner rather than later. Keep safe.
Hello.....i really love whip fishing, especially using elderberries on the hook and feeding hemp. I was wondering though, why do you use a mini waggler as opposed to a normal pole float type set up ???
Just a personal thing, learnt it from local whip expert Derek Skinner. I find that as our drains/rivers are not too deep and generally not do not have much flow that getting the line below the surface prevents the float being so prone to surface skim. I do use top and bottom floats when the drains are pulling off hard, due to being able to hold the float back and vary the speed the float is running through.
Is this Hollands pit?
Yes mate.
You gave it a good go, but it doesn't beat Mr. Skinner in the roach per video stakes.
No shame being beaten by Derek, he's done it to me many times. Learnt loads from him, and still learning.
Geoff Felgate --it isnt a contest,, we are good mates and we pool ideas and share information
Will mole hill soil work mixing with it to get down to deeper swims ?
Personally I have never tried it or heard of anyone else trying it, but that is not to say it wouldn't work. I try to make the bread break up to create a specific effect, this may change throughout a session. By adding molehill soil I would be wary of it clogging this process and not allowing the bread to bread up as I wanted. But by all means give it a go, it may work better on certain days than just bread.
Now then mate just got into sea fish caught 1 dab a hubeston first time going since then been nothing about 6 times after vairing bate currently using 6 ounce And fake rag worms on a flapper rig and currently trying Anderby Creek any other advice
Anderby Creek is not really a recognised fishing mark, Huttoft car terrace or Moggs Eye are about the nearest to it. There has been more whitebait (bait fish) around recently than previously seen and therefore the fish are not looking for other baits, so much so some of them were heading to Norfolk to try and catch something. Fresh peeler crab is always best, although unwashed squid has been catching. Never seen anyone catch on artificial baits, usually best with something with a natural scent. Keep trying one bait short and one bait long. Unfortunately the fish will only feed when they want, not because you are doing anything wrong. Hope the fishing picks up for you soon.
@@eastcoastangler7058 thank you how do you recommend putting the crabs on as we though we would go crabbing at Humberston as there are plenty of crabs to catch then either freezing them or just leave how we caught them. Many thanks for the advice
@@after1276 Identifying and hooking peeler crab ua-cam.com/video/5Xs0RFcXpU0/v-deo.html Freezing peeler crab ua-cam.com/video/QKHRp1ra4dA/v-deo.html Peelers are best fished fresh, but they only stay in the peeler stage for a short time, put them in a tray of sea water about half way up the crab and keep in a cool place. You can use more water but then you will require an aerator/bubbler to provide oxygen. But they will not keep for very long in this state, maybe a few days, even doing this expect a few losses..
@@eastcoastangler7058 so before use do you have to wait for the crack on the back of the crab??
@@after1276 That shows it is fully ready to peel, but by breaking the cartlidge part of the bottom of the leg will reveal a whisker type leg inside. If there is no whisker type leg inside it is not a peeler. If it is a peeler but the shell has not cracked you can peel the hard shell off to reveal the jelly crab inside which is used on the hook.
Where is a good access point on the Lymn. I don't want upset any farmers!

Hiya mate great video. We travel to butlins most years , is it worth me taking a rod down with me for the beach around there?
Glad you enjoyed it. There are still fish to be caught in the summer season, but usually not in the numbers there are in the winter. Crabs tend to get through hook baits like fish, squid and lugworm so you will need to keep checking your bait quite frequently. Peeler crab is the best bait, with smoothhounds and odd thornback ray being the bonus fish.
cracking bit of sport... just wondered the cost of that whip. ? was it a budget or pro cost....thanks
Glad you enjoyed it. The whip is a Daiwa speed whip, I have them in 3m and 4m, they have a carbon flick tip and cost around £30-40. Use a budget one, with the solid tip section removed and elastic fitted, in summer when there is a possibility of hooking a carp
