Amazon's The Boys and Christianity (Video Essay)
The Boys is back with the new fourth season and it’s as exciting as ever. However, I’ve found an ongoing trend that seems to be going on in the show from season 1 to the very new season 4.
That is its portrayal of Christianity.
So in this video, I talk about how Amazon's The Boys portrays Christianity through major characters like Homelander, Starlight, Ezekiel, and the new hero of the Seven, Firecracker. I will also be talking about why their portrayal of the religious faith is simply problematic.

Importance of Equality and Respect - Understanding Ken from Barbie (Video Essay)

I've watched the Barbie movie and the character that stood out to me the most was Ryan Gosling’s Ken. Not only because Ryan Gosling is one of my favorite actors of all time, or because he got to sing this masterpiece, but because he seemed to be the embodiment of the message of the movie. Into the Spider-Verse is one of the best Spider-Man movies to ever exist. There’s no debate on that. That movie was so damn good I thought it was near impossible for its sequel to be half-good as it was. But man, Across the Spider-Verse, blew me away. Uhm no Varian thinks that Cass is like his sister
Disagree with all of this but I appreciate you making it! This is such a great series so underrated
Atheism is a harmful, pseudoscientific cult movement that deserves nothing but criticism and mockery, but of course because atheists control everything and are completely incapable of taking any amount of criticism or jokes, we’ll unfortunately never see a good anti-atheist movie or TV show. 🙄😒
I can never explained ❤ better I don't understand how people prefer other characters he is really the heart of the MCU
So true! There wouldn't have been MCU without ironman himself!
My favorite character from "Tangled: The Series" is Cassandra. 1. Cassandra 2. Varian. I don't know about everyone else. I do love them. But I like them for many different reasons, so I can't list them. 🙂 I understand her perspective on part of the world. Some people can't be trusted and having a friend that is cajoling and telling you what to do seems REALLY frustrating at times. Their friendship seemed one-sided. Rapunzel always got what she wanted and Cassandra never said no to Rapunzel because she loved her friend. (But I understand Raunzel's happy free spirit, and I love that... but... a few times she just doesn't use it in the best way. In "Freebird" Rapunzel encourages Cassandra to try something new, but ends up getting them both trapped.) Cassandra was right all along throughout Rapunzel's journey to the Dark Kingdom. She was right about the time when they got turned into birds. (She just walks up to two strangers out in the middle of the woods and easily trusts them.) She was right about the Great Tree because it was unsafe. And the House of Yesterday's Tomorrow. But other than that... Cassandra is a worthy character. She's intelligent, a skilled warrior and she shows so much loyalty to the people she loves. Even after what happened in season 3.
I like cass the most
2:14 I did the math...If Cass is 4 years older than Rapunzel, that means she's canonically 22...
This is why I really separate the tv from the movie because I really think the movie Rapunzel would NEVER treat Varian like this.
i don’t think rapunzel is specifically a bad friend but what she did to varian wasn’t so great. cassandra was a bad friend for victim blaming
One of the all time GREATEST aspects of the show is Rapunzel & Eugene’s relationship. The show easily makes them the most likable Disney couple.
I feel like it would’ve been much better for Eugene to take the moonstone only because his excuse would’ve been way better taking it to protect Rapunzel and considering that the spin-off of supposed to be about them, it would’ve been a better off story. And that way, Cassandra can even have a dream is being captain of the guard, in the captains excuse of retirement can just be simply cause he was tired.
I don’t think Rapunzel means too be selfish or bad friend she’s just getting use of the social life. She has been trapped in a tower for 18 years. So it makes sense for her not to have great social skills also most of her family and friends in the show don’t tell her that she’s doing these things and don’t tell her how they feel so it’s really on them as well.
Movie rapunzel would hate show rapunzel lbr
Fr
Fr, I don't even consider TTS canon because I hate how the writers made her so insufferable.
I liked this show....until the mockery started. I'm not watching this show ever again. How can you watch a show that mocks our Savior? No Christian should watch this filth.
Same I was enjoying the show until the endless mocking of Jesus and Christianity I was disgusted no wonder the show is directed by two Jews Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogan
Tbh I think it’s more of the writers/directors fault, since I couldn’t help but notice how they kept forgetting important things and also left some plot holes (I think) Not to mention, recently found out that the director of this series despise Varian for his popularity, despite Rapunzel being the main character, so I feel like it might connect as to why Rapunzel isn’t as well written/executed as movie Rapunzel, and why she’s not the bestest of friends but that’s just imo
I think if there are definitely at least four things thia fandom agrees on it is, Varian is the baby and everyone loves him whether hes they're absolute favorite or not (he is for me) Everyone loves Cassandra whether a crush or just think shes super cool, Jeremy Jordan is a great VA and the only one who could've voice English Varian and the last one for all the cheese Vat7K should have been made and we're Mad at Disney for not making it real (and probably other reasons depending on who you are *cough* TOH *cough*) *plays the song Mad at Disney*
This is great. Nice to see someone defend Frozen for once. I like how you gave Elsa her own segment. She really is a great character. The only thing I disagree with is that I don’t think Elsa didn’t want to be queen. I thought she had no problem with taking that role. Her powers and the burdens associated with them made it seem like her job as queen would become stressful, but by the end of the film, she was perfectly fine as queen. That’s kind of why I hate F2. She just became unhappy out of nowhere and it ruined that happy ending from Frozen 1
Watching this for the 10th time at 12 am ❤
First, Disney made the WORST DECISION EVER by NOT having Varian have his own series. They could have made the best series ever but noOoO! “He’s too tied with Rapunzel, she needs to be included too”, THEN MAKE HIM A WHOLE SEPARATE CHARACTER. HE DOES NOT NEED RAPUNZEL. Second, for 4:18 , fair enough. HOWEVER, I do think it should be mentioned how episodes before he makes the gun, he has his trauma laid in front of him, thanks to Cassandra’s anxiety induced rocks, where the amber was the only solution to help Corona. And he succeeded. That probably helped him gain more confidence and less fear to make an amber-trap gun. Timeline wise, it does make sense. (Just thought I should mention).
No just no I hate him!
FINALLY SOMEONE WHO AGREES. I HATED HER SINCE SEASONN 1
Haha, crazy how unlikable she has become compared to the movie!

Christianity needs to remind itself that Christianity is religion and not politics.
Okay, gonna go on a bit of a rant here, but can we just talk about the fact that she let the guards throw Varian- a literal 14 YEAR OLD- out into a blizzard that iirc they straight up said in the episode could be deadly? And then STILL DIDN’T CHECK ON HIM?? Like she watched them drag him out of the castle into a storm she knew could kill him and she didn’t think to go looking for him or send anyone else to do it to, you know, SEE IF HE WAS EVEN STILL ALIVE?? Not to mention that she didn’t do anything about the fact that her father sent the guards after him because he “attacked her” when all he did was beg for her help while on the verge of a mental breakdown, even if she somehow didn’t know about it until Varian mentioned it, why didn’t she bring it up with the king after the fact since she knew he hadn’t done anything? She says multiple times that she feels bad about not helping him but not once does she try to check on him despite him being a currently orphaned and emotionally unstable kid with no one else to turn to for support. I mean he literally admits during his villain arc that he knows what he’s doing isn’t good, and him saying “So now you care about what I want, and all it took was threatening the things you love.” While a pretty basic antagonist line, is completely fair in his situation. She didn’t help him even after her parents got back to the kingdom safely and her mom took over as queen again, and she didn’t even bother to at least check on him for months until he contacted her. As much as I like Raps (at least the movie version), the way she treated Varian makes me want to scream, he deserved so much better.
I think you not being American is why the show looks like its attacking Christianity because from you're perspective it is, But most Americans even Christians ones understand what the show is simply portraying reality. The crazy thing about every Christian scene in the show is that none of it is made up...NONE of it. Even the shit with Firecracker ACTUALLY happened, 4 years ago when Christians literally clapped after a pastor got exposed for being a Pedo MID SPEECH. The sad fact is for the last 2 decades a loud minority of Christians have single-handedly tarnished the image and reputation of the faith with their lies, bigotry and ignorance.
It's not anti christianity or any religion it just shows how religion is used negatively Attacking women on abortion, converting people from their religion and other stuff.

i think everything and anything should be criticized, especially when christianity is used for manipulation. as a christian, i believe the mainstream church tends to manipulate and belittle followers into fearmongering and misconstruing the word of god into turning us against our fellow man for such miniscule reasoning as “gay bad”. i like how the show portrays BAD christians. however, the show also portrays good faithed christians as sheep who cannot form their own thoughts apart from the church, and as idiotic for even supporting the church. as the show goes on, it becomes less about exposing or parodying the bad faithed ‘christians’ and more about ridiculing us as a whole. would they expose any of the darker parts of islam? buddhism? hinduism? judaism? of course not, because they obviously don’t care about being an honest political commentary that pokes fun at every political sphere. this may have been the case in season one, but the show has just devolved into “look homelander is orange man january 6th” and basically another slop liberal propaganda piece to continue to divide americans and manipulate people into believing that everything is black and white or good vs evil. great video man.
Thank you, appreciate it very much! Like I said in the video, while they seemed like they were condemning the actions of so-called Christians, as the show goes on, they seem to ridicule the religion itself and every single follower of it, no matter they are good or bad. This is a huge problem and more people must realise it!
100%
As a Muslim I agree with you.
Appreciate it, thank you very much!
Everyone would lose their sh!t if they criticized anything but Christianity. Pretty much everyone involved with this show is jewish too btw
Wow. I’m surprised more comments don’t agree with you. I agree that the show does a good job of calling out the dumb self-centered individuals in the church today. And the show also does a good job of pointing out how religion can be used to manipulate people into following a non-religious ideology. But I also agree with you that it definitely went a little far into the territory of criticizing actually Christian beliefs and definitely just started to feel like an r/atheism rant.
Glad to see someone finally agree with me! Yeah, I really enjoy the show, but this one particular thing really bothers me. Appreciate the comment. Thank you!
It shows how the religion is used by actual pieces of shit. The antagonists aren’t Christian.. you miss that point. They’re pretending to be, they’re using it. Maybe stop trying to make a fictional social parody this super serious attack on a religion. Loosen up..take a God Damned joke.
We need more examples like that, unfortunately we can't just reason with Christians, its so hard to help them escape from that ideology. 😢

@@fonzlcicu39 we just need more examples in media that show christianity in bad light, that’s all.
Killing a child is wrong.
@@Siara87 literally all the major shows and big media outlets constantly portray christianity in a negative light and you know this.
Love the vid but i think you missed the point of the relgion being in the show.
The entire point of portraying Christianity in the show is to criticize how individuals use it as a conduit to push their own personal agendas. The Boys goal is not to come out and bash people’s religious views and faith. Every clip you showed in the video shows the villains of the story using Christianity in such a way that Jesus would outright condemn, and that’s the point. Criticizing the use of a religion not out of faith, but personal gain. Christianity happens to be the example here because The Boys takes place in America, is written by Americans, and is consumed in America far more than anywhere else in the world.
I'm pretty sure this message can be conveyed without showing Starlight speaking against the Bible or Billy Butcher swearing at God. I have no problem with criticizing the individuals using religion for their own gain, in fact I believe they need to be criticized. But deliberately showing the antagonits to be labeled Christians while the protagonists protest against the existence of God or the reliability of the Bible, I don't know if I can take that in any other way
@@tyathedude I mean, if we had a show that accurately showed the priests in Boston behind closed doors as they molested children and preached on Sunday, it wouldn't be propaganda. It would be a true historical account of events. The same is probably true for plenty of "Christian" politicians that used Christianity to be elected despite not really believing in it. Christianity is politics in America. This couldn't be more obvious given that there would be absolutely no one elected on a Republican ticket if they claimed to be ANYTHING other than Christian.
I agree that I think it should be told more about how Christianity is abused for personal gain, but the show does that without showing what real Christianity looks like, if you only show the bad without showing what Christianity is supposed to look like it’s the same as condemning peoples religious views
Pretty much everyone involved in the production of this show is jewish. Its custom in isreal for jews to spit on christians. Look up their talmud passages about non jews and Jesus
Nah, the show is straight up blasphemy. Premarital sex is not a sin? Are you kidding me? And it's okay having an identity of a gay? And the man who preaches about God, is a gay man who is like a mafia. There is a total shadyness portrayed here. This show is a total Satan's work. I rebuke all the spirits working through this abomination creation. I feel angry to see Americans ruining my God's Image like this. God is love and this show is Devil's platform. I watched 4-5 episodes and I was done with the blasphemy.
If Trump is an ideal Christian, then yes
I don't know if any politician is an ideal Christian, but what do I know. Trump is the least of my problems, if Trump is a true Christian or not doesn't bother me, I don't even live in America. But I certainly have a problem with associating Trump with Christianity as if one can not exist without the other.
@@tyathedude he cheated on his wife with a porn star, and has had no remorse except she was a "horse face" or something like that and that he could have boned a horse chick. Yeah, that's the kind of person who should set the example for a nation.
You sure have strong opinions about American politics for someone who appears to be stunningly ignorant about the subject.
Dude, I don't care what Trump has done, I have nothing to do with American politics. Trump doesn't represent Christianity.
If you deliberately ignore American politics, you are shutting yourself of to one of the central themes explored in The Boys. That willful ignorance will perpetuate your confusion. The show deliberately explores the current American sociopolitical landscape and Christianity is one the sturdiest pillars of contemporary American nationalism, whether you like it or not.
wow christians sure do love to pretend that they are persecuted all the time. also yes christianity is like this in america and its shoved down everyone's throats in support of the most horrible things like white nationalism christian nationalism racism homophobia transphobia etc etc all the time and honestly i think its fair to criticize it into inexistence because really all christians at least those with social, religious, economic, etc power do is prey on people too stupid or unprivileged educationally to understand science by quoting a 2000 year old book in ways that best suits them, all whilst pretending they are somehow persecuted by being the largest religion on the planet by followers and influence. i have heard the most stupid, horrid things argued in favor of this religion. and "real" christians can't say that this is somehow a malignant development of "non-real" christians because there is nothing separating the two groups religiously. one might have a more developed moral compass but their usage of the bible to then promote goodwill and charity etc etc has not the bible as its source but rather the person their self. if a doctrinal book with such influence as the bible can be used to argue for, with direct quotations, genocide, homophobia, transphobia, heteronormativity, racism, and makes people so ignominiously pretend for the whole world to see that they are "persecuted" because there are muslims or jews or hindus in their country who would like to peacefully co-exist with them, there is a problem with the book and the religion itself. the problem lies in the fact that christianity and all religions are based on non-scientific fantasy which people use to garner and keep power. plain as. the only way forward is through rationality, science (which isn't a dogma but rather a living, breathing process for extracting the truth), and philosophy (which before such religions as christianity was viewed as the source of morals and wills to live etc etc). if people personally believe there is a god, it is a rational conclusion because we understand relatively little about the source of the universe. but when it turns into fantastical rigid stories (the catholic church views the bible's words as entirely true) which deny basic scientific facts (archeological evidence that the jews were likely never imprisoned in egypt, that the earth is not five thousand years old, that evolution is true, that abiogenesis is possible, the list could go on practically infinitely) and are used to argue the most horrific ideas and policies (i.e. slaughter of Palestinians in Gaza, which is seen as righteous by many, many christians in america since they are often seen as even subhuman, other ideas listed previously, etc, this list could also extend practically infinitely), and are used to indoctrinate children from a birth and often discriminate against and destroy their personal beliefs and feelings (trust me, ive experienced it firsthand), and is even now replacing education on biology and chemistry in schools across what is supposed to be one of the most advanced countries in the world, it is entirely unacceptable and downright deadly. p.s. to address some of the directly stated points in the video, there is an epidemic problem of pedophilic priests in the catholic church in america and probably beyond (take your moral superiority and shove it), and it makes little sense to criticize the muslim religion in america when it has such a small foothold or effect on people here and it would only play into christian and white nationalist's ploys to exterminate them from existence or deport them, which isn't what rational, normal people want (i must make clear islam is just as bad as christianity). if christians are persecuted elsewhere in the world (i do not mean institutionally or to a wide-spread degree in south korea, where it makes up a plurality of religious), of course it is important that they are protected because they are human beings. but that does not make you persecuted and it does not make american christians persecuted, and it is therefore disingenuous to put it in a video criticizing an american series about primarily america and the effects of religion in america. by the way, religion is politics. if the distribution of power (politics) isn't affected by people who use religion to support political goals, religious figureheads who have enormous power over their followers, or hell, even run theocratic governments, and so forth, really, what is?
I think it tells about how people use religion or public figures to push people for their message and rile them up for their cause, this also goes for starlight as her supporters aren't willing to protest unless "starlight the superhero" tells them to protest.
Certainly an interesting way to look at this, maybe this is what the show was going for.
We literally saw the abortion fiasco happen in real life with Dante’s and his ex girlfriend. I think this show is really good at exploring religious extremism
Dante? Like the guy who made Inferno Purgatorio and Divine Comedy?
@@tucosalamanca5818 Nono he’s a streamer who broke up with his girlfriend and then one of his friends who has beef with him leaked info that Dantes’s ex had an abortion. Thankfully people aren’t as harsh towards her as starlight but it’s an odd coincidence nevertheless
@@CardboardwaterWasn’t the abortion because it was an ectopic pregnancy? Not the same…
@@masonmcgahey7 it is the same. Stopping an ectopic pregnancy is categorized as an abortion. Unfortunately a lot of people want to get rid of this life saving treatment since it’s still considered an abortion.
@@Cardboardwater It’s not considered an abortion and there are laws in every state protecting medical procedures of the removal of ectopic pregnancies as there is virtually no chance of survival for the baby. Also every major Christian denomination/sect allows medical procedures to be done to save the life of the mother in these situations (Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Mainline Protestantism denominations {Lutherans/Presbyterians}, and Evangelical Baptist Denominations). So I don’t know what “religious extremism” you are talking about, unless you are specifically talking about very very fringe religious groups. Also, I did more research and Dante and his gf did not have a ectopic pregnancy. I was confused with him and Tyler1. Dante convinced his gf to have an abortion despite the fact she wanted to keep the baby. They consensually had sex over the course of their relationship and voluntarily participated in the act of producing life. Then when she was pregnant they decided to kill the pregnancy. That’s just straight evil.

Christian nationalist are a problem. The Boys’ main message is not to condemn the religion in itself although there are jabs at the religion itself. The main criticism or the villains of the show are the people who use religion as pr points. However, the people who fall for it in the real world are the same who call Homelander Firecracker and Ezical Christians although a more accrete reading of the show would be to call these characters the wolfs your Christ warns about.
Again, Christianity has nothing to do with American nationalists, even if a large population of American nationalists are Christians. Christianity comes from the Middle East, not even one person in the Bible is white. I'm a Christian Korean and I've never even set my foot in America. Large populations of Christians are still persecuted in many countries, so associating the religion with America's politics and America's flaws to criticize it seems unfair to me. You're right, Christ talks against a lot of actions of modern Christians that the show seems to criticize about, which I even mentioned in the video. So criticizing the whole religion when the religion itself contradicts with the actions of the followers is flat-out wrong. Like I said in the video, however, the show talks beyond the actions of the followers but talks against, and even mocks the religion itself. If the Vought on Ice scene depicted any other religious figure instead of Jesus, the show wouldn't have gotten away with it so easily.
@@tyathedudethe boys have openly mocked many religions. In the show we see a Muslim woman try to join the seven and is rejected due to her background. The point the other guy is trying to make is not that Christianity comes from American culture. It is how American culture takes Christianity and twists it to their own benefit
The boys and specifically homelander and firecracker use Christianity. Even though they are not of the belief of Christian values, they use it as a way of connecting with the masses and in turn gaining their influence. In the show, Christianity is easily replaceable with any other religion. However, it's due to the fact that Christianity has such deep root of values in American culture that it is used. Just for the simple fact alone, the show does not say that Christianity is inherently bad, but more so how people not of that Faith use it for their own evil intentions
@@tyathedude I think you are missing the point, the show isn't condemning religion, or more accurately christianity. It is criticizing its weaponization and, as you showed with real life examples, its use in politics. The Vought on Ice scene is just another critique against how chrisitian nationalists don't respect other religions and kind of use their own as propaganda, just listen to the lyrics of the song. The whole Vought image relies on christianity, with Homelander preaching all the time, and we know Homelander isn't a true christian, they are just using it for propaganda for their own benefit and the Vought on Ice show is a clear example of how they do it. Vought uses religion to sell tickets and uses actors that show us they aren't real christians, the Bible shows to care for others but the actors in the scene just try to save themselves. I think you even agreed (correct me with I'm wrong) with the statement that the people portrayed are not true christians, and that is right, they aren't, but the show does portray real christians like Starlight or Mother's Milk that are the protagonists and "heroes" of the show, the others the show criticizes as I said are just doing it for propaganda and for political or self benefitial means. You are also right with saying that Christianity comes from the Middle East and that not a single person in the Bible is white, but we all know that even Jesus Christ has been white washed many times through history, even nowadays, the show is critizing just that and I really think you should try to see my point of view because this show isn't against you or your religion, it is against people who manipulate it and appropiate it to use it against others and benefit themselves.
@@tyathedudeI am not criticizing Christians or Christianity. I am criticizing people who actually call themselves Christian Nationalists. The American church is really messed up right now. I have no problem with people who believe in any religion. My problem is with people who want to ban books on evolution in schools. Or make any other changes that reflect their version of Christian values while infringing on others rights.
Best family friendly show I have watched in a while. My 6 year old cousin had a blast watching

@@tyathedude 😭
She is also such a bad and toxic girlfriend to Flynn! She always lets Cassandra or anyone else always insult him while just standing there without saying a word, keeps secrets from him, draws his face on a punching bag just for Cassandra and never even apologizes for it, travels back in time to fix his personality, ignores him on the day of hearts and rejects his proposals several times even though in the movie she wanted to give up everything just to save him at the end, are you kidding me? This seems so out of character for her! And this whole rejecting marriage plotline is just a sign that they don't fit together and such a relationship could never work in real life and we shouldn't teach kids that it could, then little girls will just expect to much and end up in a divorce later in life! This just couldn't work! No self respecting man would put up with being rejected twice or would wait years to be able to truly be together with a girl if he really wants to marry her. And it just couldn't work if one person wants to get married and the other doesn't because then one person would always have to give in and in the series Flynn always has to give in, Rapunzel never does. And this just isn't fair or healthy! What about his feelings and his wishes? Why do only her feelings and wishes matter? In a healthy love relationship, both opinions should matter! And if they have such different opinions and life goals, then it just couldn't work! And then it would be time to break up! And no man would put up with this in real life unless he is a simp but Flynn wasn't one in the movie and according to his backstory he was an egoistical jerk before he met her, so it would make no sense that he could change from an egoistical player into a simp in such a short time and it's not good that Disney is sending little girls such a message. It's no wonder that so many relationships nowadays don't work out and end in a divorce or a break up if we are teaching women that they should expect that men would always give in and ignore their own wishes and opinions while the women never give them anything in return and instead act like they don't really care about them, put their female best friends always above them, just stand there while they are bullied constantly and reject their proposals several times! And it's so unfair because if the roles were reversed everyone would agree that this is toxic but if a guy is treated like that it's ok. That's such a double standard. And Rapunzel having trauma is no excuse, because he also has trauma. He grew up alone and unloved in an orphanage and on the streets and he always treats her right. This is just unfair and toxic and it angers me that people call this the healthiest relationship in Disney when it's actually toxic and when there are other Disney couples who are very healthy but are always forgotten like Tarzan and Jane or Robin Hood and maid Marian. And people shouldn't criticize the other princess couples for marrying so early when that is just how things worked back then when the stories are set. If anything they should criticize them for getting together so fast because back then people got engaged quickly after falling in love and there is nothing wrong with being engaged, you could be engaged for months or a year before marrying and they should have just done that with Rapunzel and Flynn. And he didn't even propose after a few days but after a few months, and for this time period that's an equivalent for a few years in our time, so it was the right time and she should have said yes. And the way this scene is framed, it looks like she wanted to say yes but then thought about how her life would be then and if that seems so horrible to her then she shouldn't be with him anymore! Flynn deserves better, he deserves someone who accepts his proposal the first time and who doesn't subconsciously consider marriage to be a trap. Whoever considers marriage to be a prison shouldn't even have a relationship! And two people who have such different wishes and goals just don't fit together and this could never work! And why is marrying framed to be bad even when it's after they know each other for months but sacrificing yourself for the other even when you have only known each other for a few days framed to be alright? If you want such a modern relationship with such problems, then don't bring in a scene in the movie when both are literally willing to give up their lives for each other after having known each other just for such a short time! And if you want to show such a romantic and touching scene where two characters want to give up anything for each other because they love each other so much, then don't ruin it later with such nonsense where she literally rejects promising to stay together with him and only to love him! It seems so ridiculous that they say she wouldn't give up her freedom for him, when she was literally willing to do that for all eternity for him in the movie! It just makes no sense! It makes that whole scene of the movie unbelievable! And why does marrying him even mean she has to give up her freedom??? It only means that if you secretly want to break up or cheat! It's just a promise to only love each other and to not break up anymore! And if she truly loved him, she would want that and not see it as having to give up her freedom! And it's just not healthy that only he wants that and this just wouldn't work and he's always treated so badly and not allowed to have a different opinion! When he has another opinion than her just once, then she travels back in time to fix his personality and people are seriously calling this healthy??? I know that wasn't her intention but she seemed to be perfectly ok with it at the end and acted like it's right that his opinion was altered against his will even though he was right at first! Flynn deserves so much better! It's also cruel that they changed his personality so much and made him so stupid! I refuse to believe the Flynn in the movie and the one in the series are the same character! It's just so cruel what they did to him just because of modern feminism and because Frozen made more money! But in my opinion they completely destroyed Flynn and their relationship and i wish they never made this stupid series in the first place! The story was over, there was nothing more to tell and they just ruined the beautiful love story of the movie for me and above all sent horrible messages like marrying means giving up your freedom or that a man's opinion shouldn't matter and that he should always have to change his opinions and wishes for his girl while the girl never has to make any compromises and always gets anything she wants and is worshiped all the time by her man while she never gives him anything in return and ignores his feelings and needs because they apparently don't matter! It's just not fair! And I will never forgive them all of that and never stop hating this series and I can only still enjoy the movie if I count this as not canon!
I love varian too he is such a ekstrovert kid 🥰 and i like how he just want to prove his dad how good he is and i love it when varian being villian because he was good at being villian
Damn, if only my friends were as "terrible" :D
A year has passed since this video was made, four since the series wrapped up, I'm still pissed Varian didn't get a spin-off series
I both agree and disagree with you on Rapunzel. Yes, the show gave her some flaws (putting her needs before others without acknowledging how it would make them feel, borderline toxic positivity, etc). But, personally, that's one of the reasons why I like this show. It makes her feel more human, and a lot of the issues she has are believable since she didn't grow up in an environment were she could develop social skills. It also makes some of her decisions in the series understandable, even if the audience (and characters) don't agree with them. Also, I really liked what they did with Eugene in the series. I thought it helped him become a more full-fledged character.
7:04 I agree 👍 ❤❤
you know it's going to be a great video when the intro includes the words "varian is the best character in the entire series"
Agreed! The writers really messed up Rapunzel character! Tangled series Rapunzel is not my Rapunzel. Movie Rapunzel is way better.
Rapunzel’s “I need to protect my kingdom” is so incredibly stupid. She can’t send ONE person to help a child in need of emotional support? They didn’t have to save his father, they just had to help a child in grief. And. Then, instead of talking to him, she has a dream of him and then she’s like “I feel like varian’s not happy”. No shit Sherlock. She doesn’t talk to Varian for like 3 episodes after dooming him to emotional trauma, god I hope she’s not a parent in the future. Varian’s off having a totally normal reaction to Rapunzel’s actions, while Rapunzel’s in her castle stressing that Varian is mad with it discussing with Varian, or even reaching out to him. Even in “the quest for Varian” she doesn’t actively interact with him or do anything, she doesn’t seek him out to make up for what’s wrong, she does nothing. And then seems victimizing herself acting like Varian became evil out of nowhere. Now Varian of course does not have an excuse for his account of Attempted regicide Treason Kidnapping Ransom Endangerment Assault Battery Etc. But he does have a normal reaction to feeling so betrayed, betrayed by Rapunzel, betrayed by Carona. A child like himself does not know how to deal with grief and feelings of betrayal, Rapunzel the “Compassionate” one who’s “good with kids” should know this, even if Varian is 14.
It always made me so mad that she wouldn’t help him then she allowed the guards to drag him out of the palace THEN SHE DIDNT EVEN GO CHECK ON HIM AFTERWARD SHE DIDNT HAVE TO “protect her kingdom” ANYMORE. Even though what he did isn’t excusable it’s definitely understandable and honestly not really that bad compared to cass (who didnt even go to jail for what she did💀)
I completely disagree with cassendra's case BECOZ if Rapunzel was really selfish she would have never broken the last egg on Cass when they both become birds... Rapunzel literally sacrificed the life she got back after 18 years for Cass when she become a bird
