Never Been Here Before. What Will I Catch?
I'd never been to Pettibone Park before. I'm normally hesitant to reveal the exact location but the La Crosse Center across the river gives it away. I looked at this place on google maps and it looks like there are a lot of places to fish. There is a big pond in the middle, river access around most of it, and at least one wing dam like the one I'm at here. The wing dam looked like a good and simple option so I took a scouting trip to it first. I got one nice fish and there are definitely a lot more around this thing! I didn't have much time this day but I am excited to try it again soon.

I caught a giant bowfin the day before this. I no longer see it as a giant after today. I only saw 1 that big at the dam this year, and only caught an 8lb one myself. Almost every fish today was bigger than any bowfin I'd caught before. I used the net to weight them which is about 1.6lbs so most of these fish were over 9lbs without it on the scale. Its probably an old white it has stripes indicating it but because its bigger and older its probably darker
That's what I was thinking. It's been mostly black crappies here but I got a few smaller ones with clear stripes on them.

Hopefully it dries up soon. Normally there isn't water on the top in the summer unless it rains. It's still coming down from a late flood.

It's worse than usual right now. It's normally dry on top and not as slippery most of the summer but it's still coming down from a late flood. The good fish landing spot was still under about 2 feet of water.
