Herne Bay
Переглядів 3697 років тому
Herne Bay Pier was the third pier to be built at Herne Bay, Kent for passenger steamers. It was notable for its length of 3,787 feet (1,154 m) and for appearing in the opening sequence of Ken Russell's first feature film French Dressing.[1] It was destroyed in a storm in 1978 and dismantled in 1980, leaving a stub with sports centre at the landward end, and part of the landing stage isolated at...
Reculver Towers
Переглядів 1,2 тис.7 років тому
The imposing twin towers of the medieval church at Reculver dominate the skyline of Herne Bay, acting as a navigation marker for ships at sea. This was the site of one of the earliest Roman forts built against Saxon raids on the 'Saxon Shore'. It later became the site of an Anglo-Saxon monastery before becoming the parish church for Reculver. The tall towers were built in a remodelling of the c...

Fort Darnet, River Medway, Kent.

Fort Darnet, like Fort Hoo was built on the recommendations of the 1859 Royal Commission on an island covering the inner navigable channel of the River Medway, Kent. Originally designed for two tiers of guns mounted in a circle, with a boom strung between them, there were many problems with subsidence, and after extensive cost overruns the forts were completed in 1871 with one tier, and 11 guns...

Originally designed for two tiers of guns mounted in a circle, with a boom strung between Fort Hoo and Fort Darnet, there were many problems with subsidence, and after extensive cost overruns the forts were completed in 1871 with a single tier of eleven 9-inch rifled muzzle-loading guns, and no boom. The forts were disarmed before the First World War. In the Second World War, the fort was used ...
ITS A SHAME IT FALL IN TO RUINS !
Left in 2004 after 13 years, can't say I miss it
I am an old m,an now but I lived in Gravesend and know this place really well, I spent many happy times around the Prom. There used to be funfair behind the snack bar every year. We used to get Pepsi flostersa, ice cream floating in the pepsi for sixpence! I went to school on the HMS Worcester at Greenhithe and know the river really well.
Me again lol where did you take off for this ive checked the map want to be able to get as close as possible thanks
North side of the river near where the pylon is. You can park at the base of the pylon then walk up to the rivers edge. :)
Amazing drone work where did you fly from?
Took off from Gillingham strand.
@@CharlyCroker thank you pal is it a far flight? Going to give it a go tomorrow I think
@@DS_Dronezone just over 1km lol.
Gutted these power houses are all disappearing. I live in Notts and can always see this magnificent structure Replaced by poxy wind turbines
1945 German POWs lived there I swam in the pool at 12 years of age
Soon to be gone unless the government tells UniPer to keep it going and to renew the insurance on unit 1 before its shut down permanently in sept this year.
End of an era.. All that work and money on the FGD wasted.
Nice.
Seems like a mis-allocation of resources to house a decomposed dead body.
Spent years taking coal in & PFA out of Ratcliffe, been under the bunkers and up the control room (yep, looks like NASA) after all the money they spent on de-sulphur plant, seems daft to close it. Plenty life left in it. I get the environment argument, I hear ya, but when it's a dull calm day and gets cold and everyone wants the heating on....
Great video! It was too windy when we went yesterday but still attempted it. Nearly lost my drone!
Wow used to play there as a kid back in the 80,s...shame its all colapsing...
early 90s the good old days :)
What are its dimensions?
At least one more crane down at chatham maritime
Incredible Video
My dad works at those tug boats
Wow!!!! Very nice place, beautiful !!!!
Amazing
That's not St Margarets Church Ifield in Crawley
Clare Wilson you’re right. It’s St Margaret’s church in Ifield, Gravesend.
Great vid and shows how Gravesend has changed from that time.
Nice Drone work dude 👍👍
Owen T thanks :)
Great drone video footage.
NOW THATS BEING BY YOURSELF FOR SURE
Scenes in Kent😃
How did u get this? That’s my school church
iixhoney xii which school is that? I was christened, married and used to go to Sunday school there as a kid.
CharlyCroker its just st Margaret’s in ifield near the co-op so yh st Margaret’s c.e of primary school
Cause I’m in year 5 and I go there
iixhoney xii you might have the wrong church then. This is in Gravesend in Kent. There is no ifield school nearby. The only st Margaret’s school I can find in ifield is near Crawley.
Charly I love this film..I'm the project artist on the Rochester Riverside Development. We are just about to start working on the Phase 3 public art proposals for the site around the crane - Crane Point - would love to use the film at some point?
This looks like it will end up being Britain's last Coal-fired power station if it lasts util 2025. Units 4 and 5 at Drax are being converted to gas, Fiddlers Ferry goes this March and West Burton by 2023. A shameful waste of facilities with plenty of life left in them!
I remember climbing up on the roof back in the late 70s it was full of graffit I and had trees all around it. There's. Another Small monument in. The grounds. App to a. Lost digit but that might be false I remember seeing. It
I remember that in 1982, breaking out of the boarding school and walking up there at night to freak ourselves out!! ssssssshhhhhhh!
The music is pure hell.
Music is OK, mate.
Nice drone work 👍
Hi Charly, Would it be possible for me to use this on the church's website? Thanks
By all means yes.
@@CharlyCroker Thanks very much!

cool
It's on abandoned engineering programme
Haha thats what brought me here
A lovely film of a place very special to me. I lived on neighbouring Hoo Fort (identical twin) on an off for about 260 days in 1994 and made an art installation for three months in Darnet Fort in 1997
My playground as a child in 50/60s. Piles of driftwood bonfires, bottle of cider and with any luck get your hand down her blouse.
Leningrad Underground only the blouse?
@@CharlyCroker Did I say only? I leave it to your imagination, the pictures are better.
hi there do you remember the tank in the field to the east of the fort ?
@@tacticalbattledroid To be honest I dont. I remember the fort before it was demolished. but once and V hazy. Later as an adolesant playground I dont recall a vehicle in the fields to the east. Would like to help, Do you live in the vacinity?
@@Leningrad_Underground im local to the west of the fort are you local ?
It’s an old fort for the Thames estuary sea and air defences.
What's this building used for... Or what was it used for?
Give me more..........please.😁
Aerial shots are georgous, aaah what about a view inside?
***Soundtrack for my Book - ASHMORE - True Story*** Hi Charly, You have made such an awesome video, I have added it to my watchlist so my readers can listen to it as they read and experience what life was like on board an old sailing ship in 1882. I found this true story inside a doctor's old diary hidden in the back of a museum. It was so incredible, I had to write a book about it so I could share it with the world. The sailing ship left Gravesend in 1882 for New Zealand. Within the ebook are hyperlinks to videos, soundtracks, the music they played and the songs they sang, newspaper clippings and all things nautical. It is also in the companion guide which has been created for those who read the print version. Thank you for making this fantastic video. I know my readers are going to love listening to it as they read the lyrics. I hope you get a lot of views as people from around the world experience life on board the 219-foot tall ship. Let me know if you'd like to read it. I'll email you a copy for free. Thanks and well done!
id love to read this....im from gravesend how can i get it
What Darnley? Lord Darnley?
It's a long, long, crazy story.
Any one know when the chimney will be blown?
AJ 2019-2021
During then
AYRAN PLAYZ doubt it will be as late as 21, there well on there way to having the main turbine hall taken down. Summer 19 would be my guess.
AJ work has been stopped as far as I know and would start early 2019 and the mini chimney and the back on the main hall would have to go then the turbine hall will come down and the chimney would be left so it would be 2020 not 2021 (mistake)
AYRAN PLAYZ run past it most days, Will keep an eye on it.
I wana go there and film with my drone what an amazing place and cool video. Thanks for this video and did you get any bother from anyone complaining ?
Nice video friend..I have subscribed to your channel... if you want to visit and you can subscribe to my channel
U-475 was a German submarine...NOT this craft. And B-39 is located in San Diego, CA...this is B-49 see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Foxtrot-class_submarine . I think the original wrong identification was done in UK, perhaps by group hoping to make a museum of it and the error has been repeated over and over...I have notified wiki of the mistake on their pages also. Please correct the boat numbers on your video and let's stop repeating the mistake. Thanks.
Blimey I'm getting old, that power station and the old A section with 2 other stacks has been there all my life and now it's all about to be gone.
Dave Thompson the stacks have gone already..
