How to Overlay Plat Maps on Google Earth
This is just a short tutorial on how to use Google Earth overlays to find old homes and structures for metal detecting, research, privy digging, or anything else.
I was trying to be as brief as possible, but I like to ramble sometimes. For more info and tips to using overlays and finding old sites check out my longer youtube video. Thanks for looking

Finding old homes using Google Earth overlays
Переглядів 33 тис.11 років тому
This tutorial is a longer video with tips and tricks throughout the entire video. This is more than just a "How to overlay" video, but I get into the method I use to find old houses and structures. I also show you some of the websites I use. It starts out with the websites, then a general reference overlay, then a zoomed in township plat, then a zoomed in part of that township, and ends with an...
Phoenix to Vegas Stop Motion

Hey everyone, this is my first Stop Motion Vid! I'm pretty stoked about it. It was created using about 2000 photos from a roadtrip I took while visiting my parents in Phoenix. The 2000 photos were narrowed down in Final Cut Pro to about 1000 or so and then re-arranged. Music was cut and stitched also in Final Cut Pro. All photos are copyrighted by Trevor M Photography LLC and music is "Runnin D...
I used to live on the east side of your map. I tried to overlay a topography map and I failed. Didn't try opacity.
Thanks for the informative tutorial Trevor. I live in Dakota County as well so nice to see you working on maps from areas I know.
That was spot on. Thanks.
First of all how do I get to the screen shown at 1:50, I can't get this on google earth. Do I need the pro version?
Are you in 2d view?
I don't have the overlay button or any other tool on Google Earth. I also see that you do not reply to comments.
Why don't I have that overlay button, or any of those buttons ?
You need to download the desktop version.
NICE TUTORIAL VIDEO
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD FULLSCREEN THAT SHIT O M F G
Thank you for tutorial. My question is, could you tell me what all I need to do overlay, besides Google Earth.
Thanks. Excellent tutorial.
It seems the website has updated, it doesn’t look the same as yours.
do you buy the maps to get them in good quality?
Thanks for the video. I actually use to live off cliff road in Eagan back in 1991-1993.
you rock!!! thank you for this. I am researching where some original homes were in my area. I'm in NW. Minnesota. very informative :)

Good stuff. Thanks.
Thanks a bunch for this video! I have been looking for something like this.
Thank you. I know I'll have to watch it a few more times after I've tried a few things.
Thanks Trevor - very strange, I was actually looking on how to do overlays for the area you used for antler park. We were just down there. My wife's family was just south of the lake and west of antler park. (Fitzgeralds) Thanks for doing this.
This is a fantastic resource! Thank you for posting this one.
I tried to overlay an old 1890 map of my old county, but all I got on Google Earth was a big red box with a big red "X" in the middle of the box.
Try opening the map file in a program like Photoshop. Then export it as a JPG with a different name. Then overlay it again in Google Earth.
Hey Trevor,nice work.
Awesome, thanks for the info! :D
Good job! Looks real good.
