The Up And Down
United States

What started as a golf video diary has transitioned into documenting my swing through time, and our annual Brodown. Occasional course content, occasional garage content, and whatever else I decide to upload
2024 Brodown - Part 2
Through the middle third of the brodown, I was able to settle in and play my best golf. Not quite limping around the course with a strained hamstring, I played within myself, focused on one shot at a time, and played to the widest target areas to keep the ball in play. That, paired with some very long tee shots and a few good chips made up for mediocre putting.
So do the tables turn again by hole 18? Does a third brodown in a row come down to the final hole? Can we break through to set a new Brodown scoring record in 2024? Come back for part 3, the conclusion of Brodown 2024

2024 Brodown - Part 3
In this conclusion to the 2024 Brodown, the energy wavers, but all-time Brodown low scores are within sight. Zach and I went back and forth in the first two parts of the 2024 brodown, where he jumped out to a significant lead of 6 strokes in the first five holes, then I made a move and a 10 stroke swing transpired over the next 7. In these last 6 holes, the brodown is decided, and we see if the...
2024 Brodown! - Part 1
Переглядів 55День тому
The first five holes of the 2024 Brodown were tense. I hit the ball harder and farther than I ever planned to, which got me in trouble once, and out of position more than once. I also missed a few should-make putts and came out of the first loop of the course with a deficit to overcome. Come back next Friday for part 2 of the 2024 Brodown to see if I can recover!

The 2024 Brodown! Its the 14th playing of the Annual Sibling Rivalry Championship. This year, we returned to The Legacy Golf Club in Norwalk, IA, just south of Des Moines. In this pregame discussion, I get us all caught up to where things are heading into the brodown, as you get to see what the warm-up session on the range looked like. I expect to release the on-course footage in three parts, o...
Breaking the Rust off at Fox Hollow Golf Course
Переглядів 1054 місяці тому
After two weeks without golfing, I played a practice round and then jumped right into TRGA at Fox Hollow, which plays from just 5500 yards as a par 70. The practice round opened with the typical rust, but closed in something like my "A" game. For the tournament round, I was accompanied by my good friend Andrew, who has never caddied, or played a competitive round of golf. He did his best to kee...
Climbing Up the Ranks of TRGA
Переглядів 805 місяців тому
In 2023, I played TRGA at Cedar Creek in third flight, having consistently posted scores in the 90s in tournaments. I bounced back into second flight with an 83 at Cedar Creek, then won the second flight of the TRGA championship to close out 2023. Those rounds of 76 and 82 bounced me back up into First Flight, but only barely. My 84 at Trempeleau was well outside the money, but my 78 at Drugans...
Brodown 2023, The Back Nine
Переглядів 1156 місяців тому
This IS The Up And Down Just like 2022, I start the back 9 with what should be a safe lead, and just like 2022, the gap closes as the brothers come down the stretch. This is the exciting conclusion to the 2023 Brodown. Can I hold on for a third straight Brodown title, or will Zach take advantage of fresher legs as the sun sets?
Brodown 2023, The Front 9
Переглядів 1136 місяців тому
This IS The Up And Down. Brodown 2023 was another close contest, and came down to the wire yet again. The front 9 shown in this video was held up by rain, then delayed after two holes for rain and lightning, before resuming in 90 degree heat. See how the brothers fared against the elements and each other in this annual test of grit and skill.
My Best 9 Holes (so far!) of Tournament Golf
Переглядів 2806 місяців тому
TRGA made its way to Drugans Castle Mound on June 2nd. I brought my old golf buddy Mike out to caddy for me. It was his first time on the bag, (and maybe the channel?) but he still knows my game pretty well and is the best hype man I could have asked for. We played some real golf together on the front nine here, where I shot 49 and 50 in two attempts last year. By the turn, the energy levels dr...
Hitting Mid-Season Stride
Переглядів 927 місяців тому
Life has gotten very full and busy since the last post in early May. I have played and filmed golf, and traveled quite a bit. With more travel on the horizon, I thought now would be the best time to get in a bulk-update on what I've been up to on the course. You'll eventually see in the Drugans video that my irons and wedges are much-improved recently. It feels like I'm hitting my stride here i...
Brautarholt number 2 in 40mph winds #shorts

A little taste of Iceland, minus the fermented shark. Played Brautarholt in high winds. This is a sample of the round. More content to come this winter.
Tournament Prep round! Staying process-focused and trying to go low.
Переглядів 5188 місяців тому
I went to the course for 18 holes of "doing things the right way". I didn't stay committed to every stroke the way I wanted to, but the end result was good. I put some good swings together down the stretch to post my lowest round of the year so far. Not shown: Doing my adapted aimpoint process on most of the greens, talking through intended shot shape and a bit of focus on alignment in the pre-...
Friday Evening, Walking a quick 9 holes after work.
Переглядів 1138 місяців тому
Sometimes the stars align. Its 72 and sunny, not too windy. It. Is. Perfect. Work can wait until Monday, your better half can handle kid pick-up, and there's a tee time open.....and when you walk up to the first tee, it becomes a solo tee time. My golf game showed signs of life last Friday, especially off the tee. Included in this one is a shout-out to Golf In The Family, my brother's channel. ...
A Practice Week
Переглядів 3828 місяців тому
I decided to focus on golf for the week, as weather and work allowed, and get in some practice. I hoped to focus on short game and putting, got to my lesson on Wednesday, and even tried out some new microphones. Lots of promise for improved audio quality there. Hoping to get out for 9 after work today, and see if any of the work I put in has paid off yet. With the changes the lesson prompted, I...
Golfing with Strangers: A Quick, Fun, 9 Holes after Work.
Переглядів 1388 місяців тому
I got out after work earlier this week to get nine holes. A few really good shots and a few misses with 3 strangers that had a lot of fun in their skins game. Solid banter, most of which I cut out. I went for a more peaceful vibe in this video and did my best to give clean audio. Hope you enjoy it!

I Played UGLY Golf, and still tied a personal best! 2023 TRGA Championship Round 1
Nice camera and ball tracer tech. Lots of good golf too!
Thanks! The streaks of good golf are what keep us all coming back!
Nice job in production!
Thanks! Lots of hurdles here. No audio from camera 1, camera 2 cut in and out, and mic 2 dropped about 1/3 of the way through the round. Still enough to make something HOPEFULLY worth watching.
I am sure this year will be another fun round for you guys!
Fun to see you guys together :)
The next video will feature another golf buddy as caddy. It will be interesting to compare the two when I put that together.
Mike sighting!
Great to see Mike. It had been at least 18 months, if not closer to two years. And he hadn't been on the course with me for even longer!
Very nice variety of quality content. Keep posting and droning!
Hard to get the drone time, but its always fun.
nice round
Thanks! Seems like it was a good sign of things to come.
whats your favorite course in the area?
I'm going to show my bias and say Forest Hills, but it is a treat when I can get on at Cedar Creek or LCCC too. When I first moved here, I had a membership to Forest Hills and could basically just show up and walk on the course. There was always room. Now, the course is basically full every day, and if I don't have my tee time set at the beginning of the day for that evening, I can't get on. I guess I prefer that over them raising the price, but I miss my 18 holes in 2:45 or 9 holes in 1:20 kind of rounds too.
@@theupanddown72 Nice, yeah I would have to agree with you on the cedar creek and LCC I actually got a job and work at the LCC just for the golf and practice facilities lol. I would say forest is up there too but I'm just not a big fan of the back 9 there for some reason. I've always been a big fan of Drugans too except for when the greens are hard as a rock in the summer sometimes lol.
If I want a reality check, or to remember I'm not actually any good at this game, I'll go to Drugans. There's nothing particularly hard about holes 3,4, and 5, but I think I average +6 or worse through that stretch. The practice area at the country club is fantastic. Great facility overall, but I can't justify a membership at Forest Hills, much less 15 more minutes out of my way for significantly more money. Maybe if the kids get really into Tennis it will make a little more sense.
@@theupanddown72 hahahaha yeah drugans can be tough at times. I think that at the end of the day no matter where you are that golf is golf and its hard to beat a nice day out on the course and I think that every course in the area is pretty nice and fun to play
Nice job! Thanks for taking me along!
another drill we have learned for rolling straight putts is rolling it on a yardstick with a cup at the end.
another suggestion with the laser would be a putting mirror as far as head position, feet alignment and even shoulder alignment. Pretty cool though. Which we had a indoor setup.
I totally forgot I have one of those...Good call. I think the last time I used that was a few years ago.
Enjoyed watching! Would be nice to know how long some of these holes are and your score after each hole. Think it’d be a good addition. I look forward to continue watching.
Stop hating
I've tried a handful of different formats, and some of them take a ton of time to produce. Since I played up on the white tees for this round, I didn't have yardage graphics ready to go. I'd love to put out something higher quality, but the family and job have to come first. My goal for now is to just get content out on a regular basis, and bring production values up and get better as the channel grows.
Its a fair comment. I'm always looking to improve and feedback helps that.
Dang son, some nice tee shots in that round!
Long game was pretty good, need to get better with the flat stick if I'm going to score.
I love the first hole introduction with the old guys and how they have to relate your name to something to remember it
I have tried that technique myself, just not out loud. 😂
Well done!
That’s crazy how fast the simulator can tell you all the data! (Especially how far it’s going to go.)
Yeah, it's been a game-changer. Typical first round of the year is in the 90s and it's a handful of trips to the range before I feel like I have a swing. I feel like I have a much better feel for my yardages than I used to, and expect to hit it quite a bit straighter. I guess we will see!
Way to go!
Thanks!! There were some shots I'd like to have had video of in this round, but the camera wasn't happy at sunny and 98F. Wondering if the MediaMod case contributed to the issue a bit.
Golf is such a crazy game! Cool to see you get a low round in!
While putting together this video, I was surprised by how many bad shots I could have in a round and still post in the 70s. And I can't help but look at it and say that I left 3 putts out there in the first 7 holes.....
Fun to watch! The ball travel screen on the side adds a cool Nintendo touch 😎 Congrats on placing high up in the competition!
Played PH#2 this past Sunday....effing EPIC
That was fun to watch! Putting under pressure😅
Very entertaining, good production!
Your swing has really progressed. I think your tempo on backswing slowed down a little for the second bucket, but looks really good! I think on your driver all of your shots had a closed face. Would like to see what it would look like to be square to open at impact. Good work!
Such a wholesome Vlog. I miss playing with you at FH. :(
2014-15 are "the good old days"
Nice video. I can't wait to play here, hopefully making a trip this year. You have to go play True Blue in Myrtle Beach if you haven't. Its a lot like Tobacco but more forgiving and more beautiful imo. Royal New Kent another Mike Strantz.
Thank you! I'm hoping to travel more for golf yet this year, but we'll see what happens.
You record out in Wisconsin? I dont think anyone does in NY. I might start.
Yeah, based out of La Crosse, WI. From here we have driven to Whistling Straits for a PGA, Erin Hills for a US Open, and Hazeltine for a Ryder Cup. Sand Valley is less than 2 hours drive, and there's a US Senior Open at SentryWorld in Stephen's Point, WI this year. The long winters finally got to me enough that I've started building up a simulator in the garage to keep swinging through the snowy months.
@theupanddown72 Nice! A lot of public courses in the Capital Region are dumping millions into their courses. I thought about putting a simulator in as well. Your swing looks pretty good, too. I can tell you've worked on it.
Yeah, the Covid boom is real, and the courses are either reinvesting or increasing their profits. The swing has come a long way, thanks for noticing.
nice course, what did you use for a camera and stand, thanks
I've got a Gopro mounted on a Smallrig mount clamped to the pushcart, and running on an anker battery. Basically the pushcart becomes a rolling tripod.

Wow you bombed that drive. And great birdie!
Haha the split screen of you putting and her digging for snacks!
She is so cute.
for the algorithm! :)
This is a great closing hole...if I could make an approach shot...this one got ugly. Glad I had a cushion
I know I took iron because driver would get me into trouble, but I can't count how many times I tried to "play it safe" only to be in trouble anyways.
anyone in the peanut gallery have a fix for the pull hook I hit here? (I was also scared of a water ball :) )
Algorithm boost
Love the Command and Conquer intro. Nothing like a hot pull to start a round off the tee
What happened in 2020? Can't wait to see it :)
How do you even do that XD
Pinkey Man, I'm guessing 5 years of abuse is about all its good for.
What ball tracer are you using?
Eric Domagala There's a "stroke" tool in Adobe Premiere. I've got a little practice and with a lot of zoom, I can do a trace in 3-5 minutes with the right backdrop.
ua-cam.com/video/QXq-ZTPpRQ4/v-deo.html
Nice moves Travis, elbows and knees slightly flexed in. Hands don't rise at the top. Head is Poppin up only the slightest on the way through. I think you could bring your hands in a little closer at address for more feel at the bottom. And you won't have to reach as much and not get that push that visits everyone in a while. Nice nice, swing.
Nice, been looking for a good pimento recipe. I'll be making mine in the morning when coverage starts
Great Channel
+Logan Lacaze Thanks! Glad you like it!
