My Boomer Buddies Podcast
United States
Приєднався 29 лис 2023
We recall and discuss popular culture through topics, such as music, television, movies, lifestyles and much more - all through a nostalgic lense. There will also be spotlights on My Boomer Buddies. Each of us will share what it was like growing up as Boomers and how we became who they are now. We all turned out OK ... even though we drank from garden hoses, rode our bikes without helmets, and didn't sit in kiddie car seats. We also talk about the world we live in now. We may sound a bit curmudgeonly, but hey, we have earned that right! After all, we have gone through a lot and, with all that experience, we can now "see around corners"! Come and listen in to us old-timers. You may learn something... At the least, you'll get in some laughs and make some new - old friends!

awwww mini skirts when i was a youth ...llol
I love this film and song 💛💛💛
Yes! Greatest One-Hit Wonder Ever. Not as good, but try, Are You Ready, by The Pacific Gas and Electric Company. A forgotten Gem.
My brother Bob had the album. Sadly I’ve never gotten to hear it. Don’t know what ever became of the album. Bob was 20 when this song came out and I remember he really liked the summer of 67. new sound that made a big mark on teenagers. Good song, good show, Rick. 🎶👍🏼
My favorite ...Clock's song is the unbelievable "Tomorrow". I like also the singles "Sit With The Guru" and "Barefoot In Baltimore". I prefer their sunshine pop side, like on the album "The World In A Sea Shell". After three albums, they changed their sound on the album "Good Morning Starshine", except for the title track !
Thanks for your comment, @neurophile!
love going back in time when i had hair and the music was great!
Thanks for watching, Ed! BTW, you still have hair... it's just on the inside now!
More cowbell!
The memories are flooding back. I think I was 9 or 10 when I first saw and fell in love with this movie. Sidney Poitier was blazing quite a trail in the 6os. Good show! I'd only add that Sidney also played a student in "Blackboard Jungle". It was his breakout role.
Love it Rick! Great stuff like all of your episodes!
Fun show, Rick. Growing up, I even had some "Monkees Trading Cards" that, like Baseball Trading Cards, came with bubble gum.
Burrows was prolific. I hear his voice and think of all the Time Life compilation album commercials. His songs were in all of them.
Good comment!
Enjoyed this week’s podcast Rick. I remember all these songs! Thanks. 🎶❤️👍🏼
Glad you enjoyed it
Just found your channel. At 78, I’m a leading-edge Boomer. Bleeding-edge once VietNam happened. Thanks for doing this. I’ll be watching.
Happy New Year, Rick. Loved this podcast. I never gave much attention to pop music and the artists while I was growing up, but recognized songs on the radio (usually singing the wrong words to the songs). I recognized all these songs. Tony was obviously very talented and just loved doing what he did, not grasping for the attention. Very interesting podcast, Rick. Thank you.
i remember every word, thanks for bringing back the memories!
The writers were superb . . . one of the funniest shows ever.
Classic comedy! Never realized until recently that many cast members were Jewish. Thanks for sharing, Rick.
I remember the song, but never knew the group "We Five". Great selection, Rick.
Thanks for watching, John! Glad you learned something from it… 😂
I know what song will be on my mind all day!
Time to come on and do another episode, @breederthesucceeder…
Also my favorite T.V. show growing up! Long live The Flintstones! Yabba dabba do!
Yabba dabba doo!
I know nothing!
Love the Flag...Yabba dabba do
Thanks, Ed!
Good show Rick, I remember Rick Casey, probably from baseball and that pic with the 2 teachers was so cool to see again. I learned how to play baseball at the community club and remember the yearly carnival that was so much fun to go to.
Great memories and some I share with you! The West Medicine Lake Community Club was great to have for, not only us kids, but the adults, too!
i have seen every episode over and over. My grandfather, who was at Pearl Harbor when it got hit, was a big fan. For the record, there IS a single time where Klink comes out ahead at the end of the episode. Hogan strings him along with the idea of a rich, young, beautiful widow. We don't see her during the episode, but right before the end credits, Klink comes back from his blind date with her, and he storms up to Hogan, and gives him a bottle of champagne as a reward for his help.
Klink finally caught a break! Thanks for the insight and thanks for watching!
Hogan’s Heroes was my favorite comedy as a kid. A mix of Nazi menace leavened by Nazi bumbling and Allied bravery, inventiveness and humor. It probably sparked my lifelong interest in WW2 history. Thanks Rick!
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Good coverage, Rick. I always enjoyed it when they went outside the camp. How many times have we heard, “ I see nothing”!
A lot!
Good coverage, Rick. What a good show it was. I always enjoyed when they went outside of camp. And how many times have we heard “I see nothing “!

Great song - I definitely remember it. But am pretty sure I was singing many “incorrect” words. Hahaha!
Great song, Rick! Have you ever heard James Taylor’s backup singer, Valerie Carter? It’s a neat cover. Thanks for this!
No, but I will check out that version, Bruce!
i can't reach those notes either
That's exactly what I was thinking, it put a smile on my face, WHILE I was singing it, remembered every word, and had the 45! I hit a few notes, but brought it down an octave to keep singing! I remembet thinking the name of the band The Spiral Staircase was cool. I was 14. Thanks, Rick 🥰🎶
Love, love, love that song! Too funny - my head was bobbing along with yours in the beginning 😂
Such a great coming-of-age movie. I choke up and see the whole movie in my head every time I hear this song. I think I’m going to watch it with my adult sons. 💕
We thank you for sharing your reaction!
As a young boy growing up in east London, I actually went to the film premier of this film. The Odeon cinema, Mile End in east London. A neighbour of mine had three tickets. Don’t ask me how he got them, but I have great memories of the film. At the end of the film, all the actors came on stage! I think the school depicted, Cable Street in east London.
Lulu sang this live on the Ed Sullivan show. ua-cam.com/video/X0VQi128sWc/v-deo.html
Stephen, what a great live video! I appreciate you sharing it,,,
@@MyBoomerBuddiesPodcast-mo4ky You're welcome, its on a playlist of some lesser know 60/70 songs on my channel ;)
Unknown. That’s her married name and she pronounces it differently.
Fun show Rick. Is Nina any relation to Mike Gagnon who we played ball with at Morris?
The song was recorded in Odessa Texas. In 1971 ir 72 was a college student at Texas Tech, in Lubbock up the road from Odessa. I was hired to do a string arrangement for a song that was already recorded and gathered some string players I knew to record the strings onto the main track. It was released (as I learned about 40 years late)r as their last 45. I was really surprised when I found out they were kind enough to give me credit for the string arrangement on the record label. ua-cam.com/video/Z53aZAVZNRU/v-deo.html
Great insight and thanks for your contribution to an awesome song!
Brought back lots of memories of the boomer days 😊
Thanks for watching, Shelley!
This was really good. Prayers for all. I, too get Ed’s emails every day and look forward to reading them and sharing with Ron. ❤
Awesome!
Solid song selections gents!
Love it!
Love this song
I was 13 years old in July of 1969. I figured it was all entirely possibly, but so far off that my friends, family, and I would be long gone, and I didn't think anymore about it.
love it, it made me take a trip down memory lane!
love it, brings back the old days of youth!
Glad it took you on a pleasant journey!
Great show Rick... thank you for allowing us to tell our story and give others the inspiration they need.
Thanks for sharing what you went through!
Another fun episode! And good call on one-hit wonders. I've listened to a lot of these over the years, some still to this day. I went through and made a list of some of those I remember, which include: Monster Mash by Bobby Picket, Wipe Out by the Surfaris, Hang on Sloopy by the McCoys, Sunny by Bobby Hebb, Wild Thing by the Troggs, Winchester Cathedral by New Vaudeville Band, Incense and Peppermints by Strawberry Alarm Clock, Judy in Disguise (With Glasses) by John Fred, Bend Me Shape Me by The American Breed, In the Year 2525 by Zager and Evans, Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye by Steam, Venus by Shocking Blue, Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum, Ride Captain Ride by Blues Image, In the Summertime by Mungo Jerry, All Right Now by Free, One Toke Over the Line by Brewer and Shipley, Here Comes the Sun by Richie Havens, Signs by Five Man Electrical Band, Do You Know What I Mean by Lee Michaels, One Tin Soldier (The Legend of Billy Jack) by Coven, Sunshine by Jonathan Edwards, Bang A Gong (Get It On) by T. Rex, Run Run Run by Jo Jo Gunne, Stuck in the Middle With You by Steelers Wheel, Hocus Pocus by Focus, Brother Louie by Stories, Rock and Roll Hoochie Koo by Rick Derringer, and Autobahn by Kraftwerk. LOTS of great one-hit music!!
Great list, David! I had many of these in my "FOR THE RECORD" board game and plan to use some of those in future MBBP episodes. Check out 'Lies' featured in the next episode & coming out Thursday. Thanks for watching!
