Collapsed hydraulic timing belt tensioner. NEVER REUSE A HYDRAULIC TENSIONER!! It's temping since they make up half the cost of a timing belt kit.

Hey man - got one myself, brushless version. Had to replace the ESC and some wheel / diff cups but, on a 3500KV motor and a 15T pinion and steel spur, I'm running about 52MPH on tarmac, 46ish in grass. Steel spur helps a lot too, especially going to higher KV motors. Biggest thing that shows improvement is a radio with a gyro - I got the Injora T6 radio, about 30 bucks Amazon; no more flips! Also running bigger tires; KR2 Baja, also Injora. Bigger can for the motor helps a lot with torque and heat, go with a 3670 or 3674. Besides a new body, it's pretty solid! I've hashed mine some, few jumps, some good hard hits lol it likes it!

Timing Belt tensioner .

I literally just did this job last Friday! That stupid timing belt tensioner sucks! 64k miles only!! The timing belt and water pump were still fairly new when I removed it!! Runs silent now though Aloha

Definitely the timing belt tensioner. Went through this exact situation. Sound usually goes away in a couple minutes. The job took about 4 hours from start to finish. The stupid engine mount bracket on the passenger fender is probably the hardest part of the whole job!
