I honestly cannot stand this department. This department had people like Mary who was notorious for being a major pain in people's ass. I graduated from Wayne State University in 2010 with a BS. I graduated when Wayne had a 21% graduation rate. So, my major requires students to take Calculus 1. Getting to Cal 1 wasn't easy here. I will admit that coming from DPS hurt me in a bit, but the way Wayne State's math department was set up at the time made it almost impossible for students to succeed. Students STRUGGLED in 0993 and in 1050. I've seen students either dropout or completely changed their major because the instructors were beyond terrible and math department were issuing department finals. This department loves to question students about their ACT/SAT scores as if that has any relevance. I managed to enroll in their honors program which includes a lab. Good program because I got a B+. I got in Pre-Cal (1800) the next semester. All was fine until the department final. Other students, including myself said "WTF is this?" I told them I refuse to retake this class. In the Summer 2010, I studied (six hours a day and sex days week) for the placement exam. One of the program's leader told me that I won't pass the exam, so I should retake the class. I was happy to place into Calculus 1 so I could graduate that year. I will say that once you make it to Calculus 1, it's smooth sailing because you've mastered algebra. The sh*t those people (some majors and Mary) used to talk was beyond crazy. "You don't belong here!" Mary was a complete waste of time and a harda*s for no reason. Funny because today, some of those math people didn't make it nor are they successful. I obtained a license and other certifications in my field so I'm doing well. It appears WSU is doing better with their graduation rate, so I hope things aren't the same when I attended.
