    Great video. I road bikes for years but started having back issues so I bought a trike and never looked back. Superior comfort and control compared to a bike. I then had an accident resulting in multiple fractures of left femur, and after 2.5 years I still have residual issues. I was forced to sell my Catrike and move to a delta trike. It’s been great.

    Looks like you had a beautiful and peaceful ride. I had my trike on Razorback from Bella Vista to Crystal Bridges yesterday. Mid-50's not a cloud in the deep blue sky. Had the trail nearly to myself. The nice thing about a recumbent trike, you can stop along the way, lean back and enjoy a view and the critters that are kind enough to share the woods with you.

    Thanks for the video. So interesting and as you said no safety guards back then on that bailer. 45 years ago a fellow worker was showing me how to use an old thresher, then he pointed to a moving belt and said keep your finger away from this...and it grabbed his finger and ripped it around the pully. Lucky it didn't break it but it was black and blue and he was jumping around like crazy. I sure stayed away from that pully alright.

    Your advice is excellent! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I have pedaled recumbent trikes thousands of miles, including several cross country journeys, and have never had a flat tire on my trike ... Here is what I have used: Schwalbe Marathon PLUS tires, Kenda thorn-resistant heavy duty inner tubes, and tire liners. I have pedaled through and over just about every kind of sharpie imaginable (glass, nails, metal shards) and my tires remained intact. At the end of one of my three-week treks, after getting back home, I discovered a nail in the tread of a front tire, which had been embedded into the tire for who knows how many hundreds of miles. I pulled it out, and the tire held air just fine, a testament to the Marathon PLUS setup described. I am currently running Schwalbe Big Apple tires, but they have a poor flat-proof rating on the Schwalbe 1-7 scale (Big Apples have only a 4, whereas my former Marathon PLUS have a 7). To make up for that deficit, I am now using Tannus Armour tire liners, which actually protect better than the Marathon PLUS, due to an even thicker protection layer in the tread area, plus a side protection layer. So far, I've not had any negative issue or flat, but then again, I have not yet ridden this new setup nearly the mileages that I have done on the Marathon PLUS tires. The Tannus Armour liners can even be run if the tube has flatted, enough to get a triker back home or to safety. For anyone interested, here is a link to the Tannus Armour liners: www.tannus.com/pages/armour With these liners, the tube used will be smaller: My Big Apple tires are 2", but I use a 1.5" tube to accommodate the Tannus Armour liners. steve

      @@sherristrikesandtractors Hi Sherri, I finally reached a time in life where I decided to "retire" so to speak, from spending the bulk of my time writing books (11), managing websites (12), and supporting UA-cam channels (2). At 74, I want to spend more time on things in life outside of the virtual computerized world and in the pages of books. I started all this 20 years ago, and built it up over time, interlinking everything I did extensively, so altering any one thing had an effect on everything else ... so, I decided to scratch it all, put my books out of print, and just create my new current "Trike Hobo" channel, keeping it simple, with no viewer interaction (I was spending loads of time every day answering questions and comments, which I do enjoy, but it had gotten to the point that it overtook my existence, to the exclusion of real life, thus the change in direction for me). steve

    I used PowerGrips on my trike for many years, and they are good, but I switched to plastic flat pedals several years ago each pedal with two adjustable old school leather cycling toe straps - threaded through the pedal gaps/openings with one strap for around the back of the heel and one laterally/diagonally over and around the shoe. The adjustability of the toe straps (each has a flatish buckle) means I can ride any shoe securely depending on the conditions as well as tighten them right up inside the straps. The heel strap comes through the pedal out either side from the rear corners of the pedal, and can be adjusted with the buckle near the heel. Very secure and easy to center any shoe over the pedal.

But I live in a state of rolling hills... and the Pocket is a Go-Kart up- down and around! At 5'7" I actually feel a part of the trike vs sitting on top of it. I think we both ❤ our machines .... I don't know how or why I am seeing this now, but that's the internet for you. I have been riding two wheel recumbents for over 40 years. I got a trike to try it. I still prefer two wheel recumbents. Trikes are sluggish compared to two wheeler recumbents. I think that is why many, perhaps most, have electric assist. I appreciate the stability of the trike on slick surfaces, but I live in a dry climate and don't ride in what little rain we get. Trikes are more complicated. If you have a recumbent specialist locally, or if you enjoy doing things like checking alignment yourself, that is not an issue. But if you don't, it can be. Horses for courses, and all that, but I think it is sad that the two wheelers have died off because I do think they are still the right tool for some jobs.

    • @sherristrikesandtractors
      @sherristrikesandtractors 6 місяців тому

      The reason two wheelers have died off is as people get older they can’t balance like they used to and there is a learning curve with two wheelers. And if they have had a bike wreck they don’t want to have to balance it scares them because they have to balance.

    • @lostjr
      @lostjr 6 місяців тому

      @@sherristrikesandtractors There is a leaning curve, and some are easier to ride than others. But it is not insurmountable. I appreciate the aging issues, but one would hope that some younger people would see the benefits of recumbents too. I guess not. :-(

  • @RichValentine1972
    @RichValentine1972 6 місяців тому

    You did not give one valid point as to why they’re more expensive everything you talked about every little part you talked about should only make that bike worth of maybe $200 more not 1500 up to $5000. You need to do your research and that just.

    The interesting thing is that a competent fabricator would build a trike but would not build a bicycle frame, my desire to try triking has also lead me to the home build route, on both cost and the non existent availability, the cost justification on components is spurious at best, numbers are your greatest reason, spreading design, tooling, and efficient manufacturing over larger numbers brings the unit cost way down, we need someone in China or India to start making them at affordable prices and for the reviewers to realise that you get what you pay for and take a realistic view instead of condemming them as "cheap crap", by being cheap they would open up the market to many people who would want to continue cycling but can't for a variety of reasons, come on India and China do what we know your great at and make them affordable.

      I was talking about everything on my Trike, because people had asked me about it. Not to justify the cost of anything. That was why I did the video people had asked me about it and I decided to do a video about it so they could see my Trike and what I have on it. I can talk about electric trikes, but they are expensive. about any trike just about with a motor is gonna cost you with the price of the Trike and the motor about $4000- $5000 and if you want a cheap bike with electric motor that’s probably gonna be about thousand to $2000 and sometimes you can’t get parts for them if they-are purchased online. it’s hard to get service for them now if you buy them from a bike shop yes they will be more expensive but you have the warranty you’ll have a way to get parts.

    I was enjoying your nice peaceful ride and that noise initially startled me, haha. That sure was a loud electric motor, I guess it's as good as a horn. Thanks for the vid.😀
