♥
Nice! We're both on a journey haha. You even chose the same color as me for your Godot! I'll subscribe now. Twinsssss
That's awesome! Green Godot all the way, haha! Good luck on your journey! 😊 💚
@StoriesOfSorcery thank you ❤️
Hey! I'm learning Python and I'm going to use Godot to make my dream game, I know it depends from person to person but do you think it's too hard to learn? (or takes too much time?) I got all of the logic in my head so that's not a problem, I just need to memorize all of the different words and the language itself, from what I've seen on this stream you look like you're really good at it so that's why I'm asking, have a nice day! :)
Hi, and thank you so much for the kind words! I'm not a big expert in Godot by any means! Even though I've been using it for little more than a year, I still have to research how to do certain things sometimes, haha. But I do quite like it and recommend it, even for people starting out! It does take a bit to learn if you aren't accustomed to game engines, but it shouldn't be that hard once you start getting the hang of it. I had a bit of a head start in that regard, due to my previous experience, but I believe anyone can get to grips with how it works given a little time and patience. As for the programming, I do know a bit of Python, but not enough to give you in-depth advice, unfortunately. I'm using C# which is a somewhat different beast. That said, you may want to try out GDScript, the other programming language Godot supports natively. From what I've heard, it is very similar to Python in functionality and syntax. That may be a better starting point for you. I'd recommend searching for in-depth starter tutorials here on UA-cam to learn the ropes. There are a lot of good videos out there that can get you started. Just pick one that feels right for you and get started! Good luck on making your game come to life!
nice 👍
Thank you! 😊
Looks awesome! inspiring to another gamedev
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm very glad the streams are inspiring! Go get'em!
fantastic, i just found gem to push through my development journey
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm glad these help you come closer to your goals!
Heya, I have a question. Should I learn unreal or godot?. Which will be better for future. And minimum hardware requirements?
The one you like to use.
@@kilrain_dev k
depends on your needs bro. talking about hardware req, unreal is not light at all. might be one of the heaviest engine there is rn and vs godot? did you know godot is just in a zip file. you don't even need to install it. light af. unreal is c++, godot has it's own scripting language called gdscript. for future? idk what you really mean by that but I can say that both are in good hands. Epic is a multi billion dollar company and will never go out of business + it has cutting edge technology so, if that's what you want go with unreal. Godot is open source and is being developed by a lot of people. just with donations and fundings. I don't think it will ever stop evolving but it won't ever match unreal's level. godot if you want to go solo, is more managable. unreal is doable solo but has a lot of clutter you don't really need hence the heavyness of the engine. These are the top points to consider. In the end, go with the one you most like and find more suitable for your needs
Hello there! Sorry for the late reply. Hopefully it's still useful! To reinforce the answers you've already been given: it depends on your goal and your background. If you don't have any experience with a game engine or game development in general, Unreal may be too complicated to get anything going quickly. The type of project is also an important consideration. If you're looking to develop a 2D game or a simple 3D game, from what I understand Godot has better tooling to do it, since Unreal is more tailored to high-end 3D graphical experiences. If by future you mean getting hired, Unreal has quite a bit more marketability in terms of job search. But you don't need to jump in straight to it if that's the case. Nothing precludes you from learning one engine and then tackling another. It gives you more experience and improves your versatility. I was able to learn how to use Godot fairly quickly because I had prior experience with Unity, for example. As for minimum hardware requirements, I don't know them exactly, but I think I can confidently say that Godot will win out for sure. Unreal has a lot of complex and bulky systems built into it, making it a more powerful, but demanding software. Godot is still very powerful in its own right, but a lot leaner, the whole software being just shy of two hundred megabytes in size. All of this to say, if you're starting out and getting your feet wet, my recommendation would be Godot. If you already have some game development experience and are looking to build portfolio to be hired in the industry at large, perhaps Unreal is more suited. As a final advice: it's best to start small and have a fast turnaround for your projects. You'll learn faster and build more momentum and confidence to tackle greater projects. Good luck with your gamedev adventures! 😊
@@StoriesOfSorcery Thanks for the reply! I will definitely consider this
The thumbnail gave me a fright, I thought you had restarted the project in 3D
Hahaha! It's just UA-cam's default thumbnail focusing on me looking at another game at the start of stream. I'm not that desperate to not finish this project (yet 😂).
Ngl, that UI is nice
Thank you! It is still very early in development, but hopefully it won't deviate too much from what exists now!
Keep yup the good work :)
Thank you! That's the plan!
Hi, looks great so far!
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Looks great :)
Thank you so much! 💚
I want to learn how to make video games. Do you recommend that I learn to code, and program games through online tutorials? I'm 25 and wan to learn a new skill!
Learning to code is extremely important if you want to make games, so yes, I highly recommend it! Over here on UA-cam there are many people with great videos to get you started with anything, including programming and game making. Look for one that feels right for you and get started! Learning a new skill is usually hard, but rewarding. Programming is no exception, and neither is making games. It may take you a while until you get the gist of it, but keep at it and you'll see results eventually! Good luck! 💚
@@StoriesOfSorcery Thank you so much for the reply! I'll start taking the first steps then!
impressive !
Why, thank you!
Wow I guess there are female game developers out there. Keep up the good work!
yayyy yes!!! Love our female game dev!
Hahaha, yeah we out there for sure! Thank you! 😄
New to your channel. Was wondering why you chose to go with C# as opposed to GDScript for your project?
i think she is a unity dev, since they gave up on unity and moved to godot the best way to code is to use a language they're used to
Yes, that is a big part of it! I've grown to really like C# as a language. Over the years I've developed a lot of helper libraries for my projects in C#, and I wanted to keep using them. Also, this project was already being developed in Unity and had an established code base I didn't want to throw away or redo. Due to all those reasons, when I made the switch to a new game engine, I looked for engines that would specifically allow me to continue working in C#. Godot ended up winning due to its popularity in the GameDev space as well as functioning very similarly to Unity, so the transition was pretty seamless.
@@StoriesOfSorcery good for you, i actually just started learning godot few weeks ago and the reason was simple i never used unity and when i tried to learn it, it was so annoying to even open the engine and since i also knew about the shadey things unity did i decided to search for another engine and found godot, i am completely new to learning game dev so i just started using gdscript.
Hello! I was interested in using C# with Godot instead of GDScript. What Text-Editor/IDE are you using in this video? I know Rider is good but it isn't free... And visual studio is not very lightweight...
I'm using Rider here, yes, but I was using Visual Studio Code before and it worked really well! I just changed to Rider because I found it helps me a lot when refactoring code (which I do a lot) and VSCode didn't have a lot of tools to help with that. But VSCode is still very solid and very lightweight in my experience. I don't know if you were using Code or the default VS, but if you haven't tried Code you can try it and see if it clicks for you! Stream VODs up until 2014/04/10 have me using VSCode if you're interested in taking a look. I started using Rider after that. Hope you find a solution that works for you!
@@StoriesOfSorcery Hey, thanks for the detailed reply! I have used VS in the past for Unity development and I think it's pretty alright. I heard it has a very good debugger as well, and even though I don't know much about debuggers right now, their importance cannot be overlooked. What scares me about VSCode is that I will have to download a bunch of extensions probably whereas VS is more complete since it is an IDE... I'll definitely look into both options tho. Thanks again 🙌
Really cool content, hope to catch a stream soon!
Thank you so much! You'll be more than welcome, so feel free to drop in anytime! 💚
keep it up! :)
Thank you! That's the plan! 😊
i've seen you somewhere... Hope you're doing well.
I've seen you somewhere too, funnily enough. 🤔 Hahaha. Doing well, yes! Hope you're doing good too! 💚
just started getting into gamedev myself as a hobby and chose to go with godot and your video popped up. Game looks cool!
Thank you so much! Slowly it's taking shape! Good luck with your GameDev journey!
I would let you code a solution that lets you sit on my face ngl.
Love the UI aesthetic! What were your inspirations?
Thank you! It's all very much work-in-progress right now, but I'm trying to make it into something haha. In terms of inspirations, aesthetically I wanted to give it the feel of a stone tablet, but the color palette I'm using doesn't make that easy haha. Functionally speaking, I'm just using my gut right now, but I may revisit it at some point.
btw do you pay for a professional Rider license? I was on the student plan for years but can no longer afford the steep price. Any ways to get discounts/write-offs?
Yeah, I just got my license! It was a bit on the expensive side, but it felt worth it to me. You could try to ask for a quote on their website, I think that's the best way to go.
Fellow indie dev here, awesome stuff! looking forward to more streams! :D
Thank you! I sure don't plan to stop anytime soon!
very cool
Thank you! 😊
cool stream! helped me get through some work stuff playing this in the background
Thank you! I'm glad that the stream is useful in that sense!
Nice
Why thank you!
@@StoriesOfSorcery just beginning to get interested in the topic myself. Nice game you got going there.
Apretiate it, thank you so much! It may be tough at first, but it's very rewarding! Keep at it!
Is this gray area around the little maps part of the game or are you using some "dev mode" to tweak it for testing etc...? Cause I loved the style of your game and I think it's very innovative
Oh, that? I was limiting the size of world and map generation so it was easier to debug and test. The rest of it is gray because there's nothing there to draw. I did start working on that yesterday, however! The game now occupies the whole screen! Still needs some work, but it's a start! Also thank you so much for your kind words!
aight there's no way you're so cool yet you have only 28 subs :( i hope more people find your content soon. a hug from argentina, keep up the good work :D
Thank you so, so much! That's very kind of you to say! I'll just keep doing my thing and hopefully the channel keeps on growing as well! Cheers!
Oh wow, I am pretty early in my path to being a good game programmer and the amount of different scripts, all of them filled with code makes me scared xD The most code I've written is a Pong game
It gets a little less scarier to tackle large code bases like this when they're built gradually. You get acquainted with the code as it grows. But even then it can get pretty hairy! Sometimes even I have some issues coming back to code I haven't touched in a while!
@@StoriesOfSorcery I can imagine. That's why they say that good comments and organization is of the utmost importance. Comments aren't only for the stranger that will read the code but for you as well, because if you haven't touched a piece of code for a few weeks you become a stranger yourself
Very true! I try my best to keep things organized and readable, even as the projects keeps growing. But, even then, some stuff slips through the cracks haha. There's always a tradeoff between time spent organizing and structuring and actually getting the project moving forward. It's a tough balancing act.
I can't believe it, I left my pc for what felt like a minute and I missed the creation of Viking Wizard
That's a shame! But that's why I decided to upload this highlight! That way the birth of the Viking Wizard will be immortalized and be accessible to all who missed it!
