K&C Montana Homestead
Приєднався 20 жов 2023
Hello, we are Kirk and Cece who homestead in the big beautiful state of Montana. Come along as we learn and hope to teach others how to put food on the table no matter what happens!
Easy Meal prepping
#homesteadrecipes #mealprep #fastmeals
I have a New Year's goal to make more easy pre-made meals at home to help out when I'm on crunch time for lunch, or even sick days.
Today I started. I used a combo of my own foods, along with frozen and freeze dried.
I did four meals total; two for family and two for us. And it took me all about 45 mins to get them done. Super happy and plan to do more!

Horse training: our first steps
Переглядів 13014 днів тому
#homesteading #horsetraining #montanaliving About 2 months ago, we bought a young 2 year old filly we named Bella. She has had very little human touch and needed basically ground zero work done. Kirk has worked with her to be to the point he can touch her and put a halter on her. She is showing progress, but still has a long ways to go. Mean while, our other horse, Missy is green broke. Meaning...
Another project on the homestead

#homesteading #barnanimals #drivewayrepair Today was a big day for us. Our driveway got some gravel, and oh boy did it need it! When it gets wet, it gets muddy on top and we slide. So before snow flies and spring rains, we ordered some gravel mixed with sand. But first, I followed Kirk around as he did the barn chores since he had to wait for the dump truck to come. Then, here came the gravel a...
How to Make Elderberry Syrup
Переглядів 51Місяць тому
#homesteadrecipes #elderberrysyrup #homesteading Christmas is coming, and it seems we get sick around then; probably due to all the traveling and extra sugar. So, I want to keep us healthy by taking some elderberry now and every day until Christmas is over. Even if my kids don't like it, Momma has NO time to get sick. I'm guessing it costed me under $20 to make this and should last me until the...

Dehydrating: herbs and zucchini
Переглядів 902 місяці тому
#homesteading #montanaliving #dehydrating We bought our dehydrator years ago and only use it to make jerky. Well I decided I wanted to start using it for more and started with herbs and zucchini. Worked really well! Some herbs needed a lot longer, but I just kept going until they felt crunchy. Next week; I'll bring you along as I do squash and apples. You can put dehydrated food on the shelf, b...
Crock pot meal: Mississippi Pot Roast
Переглядів 752 місяці тому
#crockpotmeal #montanaliving #homesteading Cooking from scratch isn't hard... just takes some planning. I knew we would be busy today, so I threw some meat in the crock pot to make a Mississippi Pot Roast. Sure enough, meat was done so I added a squash, noodles, and corn. Super yummy! And pretty off hands. Would have been even faster if I did just noodles or instant mashed potatoes instead of t...
Preserving Pumpkins

#homesteading #montanaliving #pumpkin I got my hands on 2 pumpkins and I wanted to make sure they got used, so they got turned into purée and roasted the seeds. Yes, you sure can can pumpkin purée, but I knew I wouldn't have much so I froze mine instead. Purée: Cut pumpkin(s) in half scoop out the inners (save the seeds) roast at 350 for 45-60 mins Once cooled, scoop out the pulp/flesh and blen...
Treating you and family at home

#homesteading #montanaliving #homeremedies It's taken me a few years to become more and more comfortable treating my family at home. Yes we still see a doctor when needed, but the peace of mind knowing I can help heal or prevent something is huge! Do some research. Read books. Ask questions.
End of Garden 2024
Переглядів 193 місяці тому
#montanaliving #gardening #homesteading Time to put my garden to bed for the year. But first I want to collect seeds for next spring! I don't know how to collect near all the seeds, but beans, peas, lettuce, and radishes I can. Then I'll air dry for a while, crack open shells or pods, and put the seeds into the freezer. Next; pulling all the plants and laying them down. I am hoping they will wo...

If you want a fast lunch you can also freeze extra servings in souper cubes. Just take a serving or two out and thaw overnight or in the morning. Heat on the stove or microwave to heat them up. This works well for my family.
That's not a bad idea. Thanks for sharing!
You inspired me to make some of these cookies 🍪. Loved these as a child ❤
Oh you should!
Loved seeing the horses up close. Beautiful property.
Thanks! We are blessed to call this home and have both of those horses!
Thanks for showing us your day!
It was a fun day for us!
Great information. Thank you ❤
You bet!
Thanks for sharing this. I have been interested in Elderberry products.
You bet! Elderberry has a ton of good stuff in it for you!
Thanks for showing how the chef pack is used! It looks delicious!

This is a new one for me. I'm sure my kids would have loved this when they were youger!
When my kids first had it, they were confused as to why it was sweet tasting... meat was not suppose to be sweet
I love the concept of using every last bit of the food, even the scraps. Waste not! Do you just use the dehydrated apples for snacking or do you do anything else with them?
healthy snacks, but I probably could use them for pie
This looks so yummy I am going to have to try this! This is right up our alley!!
I grew up with it, and so simple, not to mention yummy!
Looks good. Just be sure the squash is totally cool before jarring and sealing. You don't want it to mold.
Oh good to know! Thanks!
Mind if I put my 2 cents in? I've done lots of dehydrating. I've done lots of zucchini in several ways. You don't have to worry about doing the thing with the paper towels. The dehydrator will take care of it! There's lots of surface area because the food is shredded, so it will dry quickly. You can actually pile it up on the trays, 1/2 an inch thick! The dill that you thought was dry enough--it wouldn't hurt to put it in the dehydrator for a while, then you would know. I really think the one you weren't sure about was sage, from what little I could see. Herbs will dehydrate faster if you take the leaves off the bigger stems. There's difference of opinion about that. Some people leave them on the stems--I take them off. Next time, I would recommend doing herbs at 100 degrees or less. Herbs are fragile and need lower temps to keep their flavor and nutrition. You can do fruit and veg (including zucchini) at up to 135 degrees. Lower temps for fruit/veg just make it take longer. It's also best to get things packed up in jars as soon as the dehydrator stops.
Oh thank you!!! I am so new at this and your tips are so good! I'm hoping to do squash next so this helps me so much. Again thank you! And yes, I asked the lady I got the herbs from and I figured the large leaf was sage once I talked to her after the video was uploaded. I'll be coming back to this often to make sure I have my facts straight for next go around
I say shucking...or probably sometimes i say peeling the corn 🤦♀️ lol
I'm pretty sure I say peel the corn too at times!
Mmmmm spaghetti squash with Mississippi roast... never would have thought of that but it sounds great! You might have helped me decide what's for dinner! I have a big spaghetti squash waiting to be cooked!
Happy to help. ;)
Dr Barbara O'Neill has a fantastic book titled ' Sustain Me ' , I Love it. Perhaps you will find it a valuable addition to your books.
Oh good to know! Thank you!
@KCMontanaHomestead-dp5jc You're very Welcome, hope you find it as much a resource as we do .
Looks Good. Thanks for the info about the seeds.
You bet!
We called it shucking in North Florida when I was growing up. My sister and I dreaded the day we saw my mom bring home 3 hampers of corn to put up. We thought we would die before it got done. We were 8 or 9 at the time. Now I bring home the corn to put up. I can some up but I really like just cutting the ends off of it and put 3 ears in a vacuum seal bag and throw it in the freezer.
I also remember doing corn for days as a kid!! Vacuum sealing... that's a great idea! And probably even faster yet. Thanks for sharing!
Great tutorial! Thank you for sharing! 😊❤
Thanks for watching it!
Love this bread. Yum 😋
Do you ever sell your cheeses online. I would buy some. Love your video
Sadly, no I'm not to the point of selling my cheese online.. maybe one day! But thanks for your encouragement!
That's pretty cool
Thank you very helpful! We just got our replacement hoses and black tubes. I was concerned about tugging too hard to pull it on. Thanks for the demonstration!
Glad to “help” 👍
I love seeing all the beautiful scenery and learning more about irrigation!
Happy to share a bit of my world with you!
I am currently living in St. Mary and am growing my food indoors in containers with grow lights. (It snowed June 18th). The good news is, I like cool weather crops :)
I was late getting my garden planted too. I will plant more in the fall.
Dont forget a few firks since you added food and i would add some wet wipes.
Funny you said that.. cuz later I did add some forks and wet wipes! lol
I love it!! Have you considered that you shouldn't mix medication together in a container? Especially if you have children.
They can't get this lid open and I would rather just pack one bottle of meds instead of multiple bottles.. but thats just my opinion. :)
@@KCMontanaHomestead-dp5jc I'm so sorry, you're an inspiration, I was referring to medicines rubbing off on each other in bottle, hence, pain meds.
You should not leave drinking water bottles in the car. How about an umbrella.
Need an aluminum or glass bottle or thermos.
The water is in glass bottles so not too worried. And yes, for most people an umbrella would be a good idea... however for Montana, umbrellas are rarely needed. too dry
Thanks for the 'tote' ideas - I keep stuff in my car 24/7... I've been caught just 2 miles from home due to an accident & road closure (at my age I probably wouldn't walk it, and if my 92-y.o. mother is with me, we definitely wouldn't be walking!). I have snacks, water, winter boots & emergency sleeping bags & blankets - But! It never occurred to me to have medication - even just some aspirin or other pain killer could make a long wait more bearable. Question: do you also include tp?
TP is a wonderful idea! I didn't think about that one! I might have to add that or some wet wipes
I think wipes would work for more than one usage… great idea!
About how much cheese did you end up with.? It looks like probably about 3 pounds.
I'm not 100% sure. I normally figure 1 gallon of milk equals 1lb of cheese, but I never really weight it to know for sure. Just went by what my recipe book said. So this is probably close to 2lbs of cheese
Great video --- because you are keeping it real! I am an empty nester and sure miss those noisy, messy homeschool days with my then littles. Wishing your channel the best from a fellow Montanan (western).
Thank you! I try to remind myself one day my house will stay clean but now is not the season. I’m raising future leaders
You have given me some ideas for gifts for you! Also, S and D are cracking me up.
Hey... I'll take gifts from you! haha!!
I like the tractors border on your gifted apron!
I do too! It was a standing joke between me and the friend to who gifted it to me, but I'm a farm girl who likes green tractors too. lol
love this! nice and easy!
Thanks! So easy!
Loved it, Cece!!
Thanks Julie!
