Fun fact: O'Neill Sanford, who was the director of the U. of Minnesota Marching Band at that time, was a graduate of Southern University during the late 1960s. He also directed Norfolk State's Spartan Legion for a while during the 1990's or 2000's. I believe he was one of the first Black band directors of a Big Ten school, I believe?

That trap set was awesome! I wonder what brilliant rapscallion did that!

Knowing that they're 7th grades, sound wise they are alright but they have really bad posture and stage presence. More discipline is needed for them but other than that just a little more work on having the sound blend.

After listening to/watching this performance during class, students discussed the concert in small groups. Each group then made a comments about what they had learned while preparing the performance, aside from the notes and rhythms. Their comments, below: We gained appreciation for the composers that wrote our music because it would be very complicated to create in an arrangement that fits together perfectly. Music can tell different stories that are seen differently by different people. We gained appreciation for all the people that helped us make this possible. When preparing for this concert, we learned that high school band is much more difficult than middle school band. We all gained an appreciation for Mrs. Chilson because she has a lot of patience with us. Always do 100% no matter what. We gained appreciation for music and the art of composing.
