Yo me and my boy eddy r watching your video rn at work!! Full send brother!!!
Thanks man! Go get it!
This is mostly foreign to us down south. Most of us have natural gas. While it would be nice not to be 100% dependent on the "man" in the natural gas plant, and be able to be off grid so to speak with tanks, it sure is much nicer not to have to worry about having all the tanks sitting around and having it filled time and time again. Keep up the good work sir! 🤠👍
Most people up here would prefer nat gas too, its substantially cheaper. thanks!
Question, does the blow off of the spitter release any small air/moisture that may collect in the tank from the minut amount of air introduced when filling?
theoretically it could but the amount of air youre getting is just the space around the plunger that depresses the fill valve it doesnt continuously draw air in as youre filling, its such an infinitely small amount its not enough to cause any problems, and the air that does manage to get in is mixing with the propane. As far as moisture is concerned even though gas these days are considered dry there is still some moisture and my company policy is to continuously treat the propane with methanol all throughout the year. Many large companies try and cut costs by not using methanol in the warmer months but these can cause issues for people that get a summer delivery and it lasts them until the winter.
@benno390 Thanks
360p ? Why you still using a flip phone from 2010 to record this ?
brand new gopro not sure why youre seeing it in 360p
cousin was managing the propane company in Chester california his wife was the post master, i rode with him and we went up some scary mountain trails to towers that needed propane, oh he left his job she left her job to move to grants pass oregon big cuts in pay for the jobs they got there but made money from selling their Chester home and at the time got a bigger home for a lot less they sold the old home for
sounds like they made a great move
make me a good deal for 20 pouds ....i am in gatineau quebec 😄
the propane will be cheap but transportation might get ya lol
@@benno390 loll have nice day SIR and tanks for dhis good infos
It was interesting, but in the video of the truck fill, all we could see was the sky. Re-align the go pro. And tell us the volume of gas delivered at the house.
yeah that was my bad ill do better next time 👍
get out the spaceballs combination for the gate :)
Does the service have to be shut off while filling the tank? How does the remote sensor stuff work?
Nope service can remain on, The monitor plugs into the tank gauge and depending on what brand you use they will either use wifi, cellular, or satellite to transmit the signal to our office
I don't think I've ever watched a propane related video on UA-cam. It's ironic that I use to run a propane truck for a company that is down the street from you. Glad to see your new pump station is working good for u guys. Safe travels out there.
Small world, it's always good to see another propane guy out there!
We called them a get off m570
Awesome video I have been delivering propane for 11 years
That’s awesome! What kind of trucks do you typically drive?
ur code is worthless... bolt cutters thru that winky dink chain.
So cool. Thank you for teaching and sharing
I appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed it!
Why is the bulk tank refered to as a plant? I live near a refinery and there are some places that keep the pressure up in the lines. And they fill.rail cars. That is what i know as a plant.
thats just what ive always referred to it as, kind of like a 120 gallon tank in our industry has like 12 different names
i am surprised at how small that copper feed line is connecting the 3 120 tanks,,never would guess thats big enough to do the job.
its amazing at tank pressure how much capacity there is in a little line! However there are some occasions where we do use whats called hogtails which are a bit bigger
Propane is your life. Hank, I love you!
god bless hank
Are you using a GoPro and is it chest mounted or head mounted?

My family owned and operated a propane and heating oil business in eastern Massachusetts in the 50's-70's and not much has changed ....pulled many a mile of hose in some of the worst New England winters including the Blizzard of 78. Not an easy job, but better than hand delivering 100# cylinders which was what the industry was before bulk delivery. New sub...thanks for the memories
It sounds like you have some great stories, thanks for sharing!
I never heard of propane under ground lol
Back in the 50s in my town a propane truck came down a steep hill in the winter and lost control and hit the wall at the bottom and instantly ignited. It was a massive explosion that burned people alive As a kid I would hear older people who were there and remembered it talk about it. I remember in the 90s a derailment of a tank train west of my area along the thruway and they evacuated the area. There was a fire And the news crew was a mile away filming with a camera on the truck feeding the station a live signal One of the rail cars exploded and they had it on camera and the tank car, what was left of it, sailed high through the air and landed about 300 feet from the truck. Propane is EXTREMELY DANGEROUS
Thank you for sharing your story! It’s a powerful reminder of the importance of safety in the propane industry. I appreciate you taking the time to comment and share your experiences.
They never covered this part in our construction propane handling course so big thank you
anytime!
I watched a UA-cam channel that set up a bobtail for his own above ground tank in Idaho. He wanted long term storage and had a ton of work to do on cutting all the brackets off and getting it all set up for use.
ive seen some remote set ups like that, the only thing is if we are being technical that tank is still rated as a DOT tank and not ASME and is still subject to the testing. Granted a tank that big is much thicker than most ASME tanks we set at houses. I would probably do the same thing if I ever bought an off grid house
New subscriber joining at only 535! "Getting in on a ground floor opportunity." Never knew about the nitrogen "enable gas" at the plant.
Not all plants are set up that way but in my opinion its the best way
Personally aware of that temp issue. I like to grill in the winter ... and only took 1 time of being bit thinking I had run out ... but it was the temp not letting the propane to boil and provide gas.
youre 100% correct, we have a fill station at our home base and we get so many grill tanks in for filling that people think are empty but they are still half full
Thank you! 🇺🇸 👍☕
You are welcome!
very interesting. I never seen that done before. Thanks for sharing
Glad you liked it!
So I know you have the best intentions with showing people what you do to help educate them, but you might not be aware that your are working and filming in a div 1 area and if you don't have the proper equipment to be in this area you are putting yourself and others at risk of gas coming in content with an ignition source( phone/ camera, waterproof isn't the same div 1 rated either). Be safe out there!
I appreciate you looking out!
No seat belt for the very macho, but very dumb ones...
I'm surprised that with all the environemental regulations that you are not yet required to recover all of that propane that you vent off.
Being a pressurized system im not completely sure how that could be achieved short of something like a low loss fitting when you disconnect
@benno390 low loss fittings, and pump based recovery system. Store the gas in a dedicated tank.
Someone will have to find a reason to do so, like depleting the ozone layer, or global warming.
@@1768ify Which propane is already doing (global warming), but is low compared to most others, which may be why they don't do much yet.
Propane has a very low global warming potential and only stays in the atmosphere a few days before breaking down. A lot of small appliances are using propane, or R290 as a refrigerant now, because it is much better for the environment than other alternatives. Unlike other refrigerants you’re not required to recover propane, it’s legal to vent it to atmosphere. I don’t disagree one shouldn’t vent large quantities of it, but I don’t think small amounts are too bad.
Very insightful. You are a good teacher to someone who has no knowledge of propane. This is very ins and wonderful to be aware of. Thank you for working so hard, and all weather conditions, to help others without the abilities. As a disabled veteran, I truly appreciate your hard work.
I’m glad you found it helpful! thank you for your service!
That is something Hank hill never taught us
Hank hill is the GOAT
Thanks good information i delivered # 2 fuel oil in the 70s!
My grandfather tells me stories of houses we deliver to today would for sure use like 2000 gallons in the winter and now they use like 600 haha
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, ideas and video. Very interesting. Was wondering, how far the hose on the truck will reach. Have a friend looking to put in a whole house backup generator in Florida. They live in a very tight HOA and require propane tanks to be buried. The only land suitable to bury a tank would be in the backyard behind the house. Maybe 100’ or more off the road. Would the normal hose on the truck reach that far. Is there such a thing as installing a buried tank with a remote filling point closer to the road. Thanks again for any additional information. Will definitely be following your page. I’m thinking that a diesel generator may be a more economical solution, are the fuel oil trucks setup with similar delivery challenges. Wishing you and your family the best.
Most delivery trucks are outfitted with 125-150 ft hoses. Remote filling lines are really only viable in commercial applications you wont find anyone do it for a home residence, too much liability. Most oil trucks are set up the same 125-150 ft hoses. thank you!
Thank you, very interesting and informative.
Glad you liked it!
Thank you for the educational tour At work..👷 It was a lot of fun learning things we never knew 🤔 An just took for granted 🙃
Glad I could help, keep in mind safety first!
How much pressure is in a typical LPG storage tank?
It's the vapor pressure and it's the same in any size tank containing liquid. Around 145 PSI at 70º F. It rises rapidly with temperature, so at 100ºF it is up to 172 PSI. If for any reason the internatl pressure reaches 200PSI, a release from the safety valve is likely.
@@railgap Thank you.
this time of year when its cold we are seeing between 30-50 psi depending on how cold the liquid actually gets. over the summer you will see over 100 psi but ive never seen it over 150 even on the hottest days and my tank sees sun all day
I'm glad I clicked on this video. Lots of bits of info. One question though, How prevalent are underground tanks? I've never seenone before.
@@markfrye9178 depends on different parts of the country some parts it’s all you will see here where I am probably about 30%
Of course not, they're all underground
Good tankful info. As a homeowner I thought I knew everything.>…..lol
You never stop learning!
Question for you, our shop uses propane forklift, liquid, can't you transfer from the liquid tank with the dip tube to a vapor tank to use it for cutting with oxygen, or even to use it for a salamander for heating ? We had a tank with both a liquid and vapor taps installed but the truck carrying it was in a accident and said it was destroyed
I personally wouldnt, if you end up in a scenario where liquid propane enters the line and ends up at the burny end youre in for a world of hurt
What was the "secret" gate combination...?
1234 🙃
Ace Carting in the background.Secret gate code is probably the industry standard 😉.My husband worked for Amerigas for fifteen years Wilton
@ shh don’t tell my drivers still have trouble remembering it 😂
How much is the per unit retail selling price? Is it sold by gallon or pound? Very interesting and educational👍👍 thanks😀
I'm in Minnesota, bulk propane here is $1.899/gallon, usually I call for a fill at 20%, so it gives time for them to schedule a delivery. maybe a couple days later they come to fill, a fill is about 400 gallons-ish, so a fill is about $760 for a 500 gallon tank here, plus like a $5 truck charge....No tax because its home heating fuel.
depends on a few factors. first its sold by the gallon, next for most companies there is a price difference between a customer owned tank and a tank that the customer leases from us. And finally usage is a major contributor, a cooking only account which uses maybe 15 gallons a year pays a much higher price that someone that lets say heats there home with propane and can use anywhere from 400-1500 gallons per year on average
@@benno390we had minimum delivery prices as well. People would call saying they were out of fuel and sometimes they still had 50-60% in the tank.
@ I would say 80% of our customers are automatic with monitors now we hardly ever give anyone the choice of being willing to call lol
And to think that they said I needed a high school diploma...fck...a monkey could do your job.
nice seatbelt bud
thanks man
HAZMAT Delivery Guys (especially the OLD-TIMERS) Didn't wear seat belts, so you can bail out if the truck caught fire!
@misters2837 explain that to state police. I'm sure they're super lenient
The hi line tubing rises up and over the cluster valve to the first stage regulator and the vent is pointing up.
I just went back and watched the video and you are correct I missed that, the vent is pointed up on that first tank, the next time i deliver there I will point it down.
Why is the vent of the regulator pointing up?
All of the regulators we install are at a minimum slightly horizontal tipped down so that moisture condensation etc... dont create a freeze up probably just weird view on the camera
Thanks for the video we have 2 above ground tanks Nice to know what you didn’t know 👍👍👍👍
Glad it helped, with two tanks you probably don't need to worry too much about run out!
