The ritual of the Age-Set in Paweny’s Culture

Paweny community age set or age initiations, is homogeneously followed by all subclans.
It is a very complex process that has been traditionally practiced for generations since the time of immemorial. One age is initiated and set for at least over two or more decades. At the end of those decades, the older age-set will relinquish its leadership and hand it over to the next in line to the throne.
Age-Set has diverse, but defined responsibilities and duties to take care of. These defined responsibilities and duties are not limited to protection, providing, guiding, but also among many other, safeguard the culture’s norms, customs and traditions and maintains peace.
Buga de Bol, one of Paweny subclans, arrived at this ritual and cultural exercise after many years. This critical traditional practice was interrupted by the long civil war of 1983-2005. It would be the first of its kind ever since the peace was since.
On April 23, 2022, Turuk Age-Set trusted the clan’s torch to Ajinjing Age-Set (1985-2007). This was done honourably which marked a new beginning. Unlike Turuk, many of Ajingjing Age’s set carry no frontal traditional marks or extracted inferior front teeth.
Miyen Age-Set, which was initiated 2010, is waiting respectfully for their turn, but it’s not for very long before this ceremony you are about witness takes place, again.
