I’m riding all 58 counties of California over the next year (2021).
I want to encourage others to get out and “discover your path.”
My name is Dennis. I’m 51 y/o and NOT an expert or even an accomplished MTB rider. I’ve been riding less than 2 years now.
I purchased my first full suspension bike - Specialized StumpJumper EVO 29'er - and started mountain biking in the spring of 2019. I quickly became addicted. I'm constantly in search of new trails to ride around the great state of California, and beyond.
These videos are to inspire you to “find your path” … or trail.
Even if you are a beginner - like me! Or ride infrequent. Just get out there!
I love hunting for new trails to ride and showcase. Blue Square or “some” Single Black Diamond is my trail preference. I'm always eager to get more saddle time to improve my skills, and to help others get more involved in this great, pandemic-proof, past-time.

On my wishlist to check out someday! I lived in Ferndale for a couple years as a kid, always wanted to go back. They filmed Outbreak in Ferndale which is 28 miles south of here =)
That trail looks more like XC.
Yes Marin is where it all started, but not in Novato and not on this trail. Move on to Mt Tam and China Camp, and visit the Fairfax Mountain Bike Museum to get closer to the real experience and history. So happy you love this sport, as I am a 70 year old native Maronite who has been enjoying this sport in Marin for over 55 years. Keep on discovering!
Spring is the best time to ride Lake Tabeaud! The grass is bright green and the wildflowers are super bright, especially the Upper Standard.
Tuttletown, not Turtletown. Anyways, that section has a lot of short trails, one with a few decent switchback. Blues I think, maybe greens. Use the pavement to link them together for some good cardio. Tower Climb. If I remember right from the trailbuilders, was designated black from a fitness level. Remember, it is a multi-use trail so jumps, drops, etc is completely irrelevant. Try riding it reverse if what you did. Remember the name, Tower CLIMB. Still, good video. Go back in the spring when flowers bloom. Beautiful. The fire messed things up but still a good ride
I grew up most of my childhood there and didn't most of that information. I do remember the oil spills though they made beach trips horrible. Great video.👍
Does that mean they have no cell service? Or internet? Or cable Tv? !
I live and ride mostly in the south Santa Clara valley. One of the most common problems riding the trails bike paths is “Goat Head” thorns (long spikes with a head). My solution that I’ve found successful is thorn strips (between the tire and tube) and Slime. Works for me. I haven’t had a trail flat since.
Since, I have added Cush Core. This is the ultimate protection from flats. In fact you could ride without any air at all if needed to get back to your vehicle. Pain to install, but haven’t had a flat since!
I did this race back in 1993. Called the China Peak Classic.
Nice video. Need to ride some of those areas!
I enjoy watching your channel. Good to know which trails I should shoot for and which ones to stay away from. This one definitely looked rocky ..not one of my favorites.
The county dirt road from the Newell area to Goose Lake is real backcountry. A.k.a., Clear Lake Reservoir Rd or state road 136...highly recommended. Just south of the Oregon border and real remote. Btw, I'd sure be carrying a firearm, if not for rowdies, for dogs, coyotes, and cougars.
Dennis I'm rewatching some of these rides... your bear story reminds me, last year I almost hit a bear cub coming around a blind corner on the Foresthill Divide trail in Auburn. I mean "almost hit" as in "narrowly missed" it because it moved off the trail in a split second. When I say bear cub I mean like a few months old "where's Mom?" as the second thought in your head after "holy S#!+". So you don't have to be as far north as you were to have a bear scare : )
Yikes,,,guess I’ll skip Modoc
Great video. Just for clarification, the $3 pass is for day use of the park. Parking is free no matter if you parked inside or outside. Cheers!
Grew up in Weaverville and never hit the trails cuz I wasn't into biking. Now I'm back in the area as an adult, and had no idea about those trails. Can't wait to shred 🤙
yeah that trail is better going the opposite direction also Mr. toads wild ride is a fun little single track
Thanks for the vid.
My family lived up there for nearly nine years. There are some very beautiful areas of Modoc County and different terrain.
Yeah I'm honestly a bit bummed by this one....there's a pretty fun single track pretty much all the way around the lake. Some "legal" some not. This was my home ride pretty much daily. I would be happy to go with you again and show you the rest sometime. I'm in Roseville now, but still ride that area often.
Enjoyed the video, have fun and be safe.
Just rode it today. Thanks for the video. It helped me out
Believe it or not I never watched this video, so looking forward to some fall/winter riding up there this year!! It’s Where I learned to ride, one of my favs!!
Thanks for the video. Been wanting to view all the trails on UA-cam before headin to them. Hope the algos show your videos more. 👍
One of my favorite trails great ride.
I live in Modesto and would like to know where this ripin ripon place is at
If your headed north on 99, cross the river into Ripon and take the first exit (Chevron gas station). Make 2 quick rights (almost a u-turn). Head to the end of the street. straight ahead is a small parking lot. Park there and head on to the trail... it runs along the river on both sides of the freeway.
Where is this exactly an Ripon ???
This is a local trail system for me. The hole in the gate isn’t a secret lol. A lot of riders will park at Jenson USA bike shop and ride to that hole and ride to some of the trails within sycamore. Yeah it can get a little confusing on where each trail starts or how to get to them, even with Trailforks. If you are ever back in town, there is a group called Team Dirty Works that rides that area almost every Saturday or Sunday. Unless they post otherwise on Facebook. Great group and they can show you some great sections.
I've got a house about 10 from that pay gate. Be sure to watch out for snakes. My neighbors have been finding a lot of them this year in their yards.
State of Jefferson FTW
Its a tough ride. Did it last summer for the first time in 15 or so years. My 65 yo bod paid a steep price! Probably don’t need to do again but it glad I got one more chance at it. Thanks for the memories! Lol
such a great ride. hope to make it an annual ride event with a group of friends. thanks for reaching out!
You’ll need to come back to Calaveras County and ride the “Arnold Rim Trail” in Arnold Ca, and all the trails around it. You’d love it. Great video of Glory Hole and all your other videos.
Most definitely will add it to my ride list later this spring. Perhaps you can show me around. I appreciate the kind words friend!
I was thinking about checking this place out. Do you think it’s worth it or should I just stick with exchequer? I haven’t ridden to many areas so any other reccomendations I would appreciate it
Exchequer is a great place to ride. I like to mix things up and find alternatives and go exploring. Red Hills is another option. Trailforks is also a good free tool you can use on a desktop PC to find other trail options depending on where you are traveling from or to. I hope this helps.
that is so cool
Great trail . Good report and video
Put the trail you’re riding on your title, so when I search for a trail your video will show up.
Congrats on an amazing accomplishment. I’m 5 counties down. Following your path!
Some beautiful country out there - enjoy!
Stoked to see you grow as a mountainbiker bro, thanks for the shout out 😁 You are a great ambassador for our sport. Looking forward to riding w you again.
Congrats on making it through all of the Counties. That is quite a feat. I have been on board since the beginning it was a pleasure watching you.
I don't ever comment on videos, but in this case I'll make an exception. Congrats! Mad props! Thanks for giving me some great MTB goals.
I appreciate the kind words. It was a one-of-kind journey.
Congratulations brother!
so cool to see an older dude doing these vids i love it!
nice vid
What’s the name of this trail of you don’t mind me asking
Skyline
Great video bro! I grew up in that area, Calaveras County did not even realize there where MTB trails up there like that!
Hey! Great video, thanks Dennis, can't wait to ride with you again!
Your route was out Middle Trail, back on the Upper Park Road, then Lower Trail to Middle Trail back to the Easter Cross parking lot. LOL to the first five minutes of "little bumpy, little rocky". :)
Good job for not complaining . . This trail is loaded with rocks . Going Down river from Salmon falls bridge is alot better .Thanks for the video anyway
Yeah, Darrington is much nicer.
The trails look epic over there nice golden dirt. Great edits informative aswell 🤟🏻🏴🔥
