Bama Land 300
United States
Приєднався 11 жов 2023
These videos will show what our experiences are turning an unimproved 300-acre tract of land in west central Alabama into a homestead with ATV and walking trails, excursion cabins and generally an all-around fun place for us, our children, grandchildren, friends and other family.
ATV Carport Build - Ridge Beam Scarf Joint Part 2
Part 2 of cutting the Scarf Joint for the ridge beam for the ATV Carport I'm building. I didn't speed up any of the video . Did you know you can use the J,K and L keys on your keyboard to Stop, Start and skip ahead and backwards while watching a video in UA-cam? You can also speed up the playback by clicking on the settings icon on the bottom right of the screen. I know the Scarf Joint videos are longer the usual for my channel. I continue to try different things in the whole production process in my UA-cam journey. I'm having a blast!

I'm like a kid in a candy store at Biddy Saw Works. I loved the store before Blake bought the business. Now it's even better. If you're in the NW Alabama area or NE Mississippi, visit Biddy for your lawn mowing and materials need. You won't find a finer Stihl dealer either! We take a walk around the store and highlight their new Materials yard. A bit of a departure from my usual video. Enjoy! w...

Creek Oak Tree - Or Is It Another SweetGum
Переглядів 2848 місяців тому
I saw up another blow down tree near our creek. I struggle to tell the difference between White Oak and SweetGum tree by looking just at the bark. Now that spring is here and the leaves are coming out, identifying trees will be much easier.

We deal with fourth and final saw log from our big Sweetgum tree. I'll be sure to film when we mill these into boards and live edge slabs.
Cutting Saw Logs From Our Big Oak Tree

In this video, we continue to work on my fallen huge Oak tree. We are down to the trunk of the tree. All the limbs have been cut up into firewood rounds or taken to my burn pit. It's really great to have friends around to help with such a big project. I can wait to see the boards that come out of milling the 4 saw logs we got out of this monster tree. Enjoy!
Cleaning Up A Huge Fallen Oak Tree

This is the beginning of a couple of videos showing us clean up after a huge tree that fell in a freak wind storm during the summer of 2021. The storm's heavy winds lasted about 30 seconds and destroyed several large trees in the neighborhood. This is step one in my water spring area beautification project. Stay tuned for my upcoming videos getting this area of the homestead properties most bea...

Things got a little messy with my filming and story telling. The best I could do was edit a mash up of a bunch of footage I had. This video will give you an idea of what I've been up too the first half of February 2024. The next videos will be shorter and show us cleaning up after a freak storm blew down a huge Sweet Gum tree on the homestead property. We got 4 really nice saw logs from that tr...
We Install A Safety Harness And A Hoist Line In The Northern Tract Double Tree Stand
Переглядів 9410 місяців тому
My young friend Jason wants to hunt from one of the tree stands on the property. Today, he and I go inspect the one he wants use and set up a harness for him for safety. A hoist line is a safety tool as well. It's best to climb the ladder without being burdened with other items. Too many hunters are injured or worse by falling from tree stands each year. Y'all be careful out there.

Got Gravel? Sorting gravel with a Flip Screen S-30
Awesome 🎉
Thanks Man.
I like metal roofs too
I do too!
I vote galvanized metal roof for the carport. Matches the aesthetic of the house, sure....but those storms up there can be brutal.
I haven't looked into sourcing the metal roof. My sense is the cost may be much higher than shingles. I'd have to get metal cutting tools as well. I will not have spent a dime on lumber so I may be able to justify the cost. I'm also intimidated by my lack of experience with metal roofs but that has never stopped me....
I still love that Jeep lol
And you know your woods all those years in the wood floor business.
Can I have my own bama cabin;-)?!? Sis too?❤?😂
I’m liking your videos and the likes aren’t showing up?! That happens to a lot of content providers.
That'll come with more views...I'm hoping :)
Yes Happy Birthday Mom!❤
I like the pine straw vs red mulch… so overdone!
I have an acre of young pines that I cleared the ground underneath real well. I'm hoping to get all of my landscape straw from there.
Seems to me a haven of value for the homesteader at Biddys 😍
It's a great store
Update on the tracks? I'm torn between whether I should use my existing 12x16.5" tires or get a set of rims/tires due to mcclarin's screaming deal sale on the 10x16.5" rubber OTT. Looks like you are running 10" and I'm wondering how well they worked in your swamp
We haven't been in too wet of conditions yet. The only time it was moderately buried, the Bobcat climbed right out of it. The McClariin tires grip the tracks very well. I'm surprised I haven't seen the tires slip inside the tracks more. My only comment regarding 10 vs 12" is make sure you have the clearance on your machine. I hope that helps. McClarin did not disappoint. I just got new tires to run without the track system. I'll know more once I have some time without the tracks. Nearly all my time on my Bobcat has been with the tracks system from McClarin. Good luck!
What would be good for your channel is you being you. Great job.
I hope that comes through.....
Your camera work is excellent. Editing...great....music choice...Wow!
Thank you very much!
These are very interesting and entertaining videos. Thank you.
Glad you think so!
Love the Bottom Zupp T shirt!
I still have 100's
Plumbing parts?......thats me....Do i see a trip?
Absolutely, hurry up. I need to step down a 12" water main pipe to a 4" Sch 40. I'm guessing there's a rubber gimmick that'll do that for zero pressure drain situation for the pond build.
Great video. Again....the music is great!
Thanks Jim, Audio editing in general is at least 35% of the overall. Picking the music is a good bit of that.
How do you pick your music......it rocks.

Thats some nice lumber. When you say youre going to sticker it...what does that mean? What is the limber going to be used for? Home build? If so, are you going to get it graded?
Stickers are usually 1” by 1” wide pieces of dry wood. They lay perpendicular to your lumber and in between each layer to provide airflow as the lumber dries. More on that in my next video. I’m not exactly sure how I’ll use this lumber but not likely for any portion of a home. Lots of projects around here that I will need good hardwood for. Some of the slabs would be great for an epoxy river table.
Amazing property and projects. We love Calvin!
Very cool that the family has that much history in the area. No doubt great resources.
He's a good dude.
Physics ! Exactly. Looking forward to more.
I could have done better with more camera angles showing the excavator's movement. It was really sketchy. For me anyway!
Did I miss it- ?what will you mill from these huge logs? Do you have specific projects in mind?
These logs are in these videos. ua-cam.com/video/R1IvSKV5wck/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/iiMvs3CY5nE/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/kRZqe1BzxDw/v-deo.html More coming soon on the milling and offloading at the homestead. Stay tuned!
I do have a few projects in mind. I want to build a better firewood shed/small building at the fire pit. All the locals that came by the mill that day were saying this is white oak. The debate continues on how to identify sweetgum vs white oak. Either way, the wood is hard and the grain is nice. After all the white oak wood flooring I've nailed up, I can say it looks and smells like it. It's the thick sapwood layer that throws me off. We milled a lot of very wide and thick boards. Like 14"+ by 2". Those would make very nice farm tables.
I bet these heavy equipment companies could use footage like yours to share with their customers.
I home they find them and tag in their socials....
Super!
Thank you very much!
Great video. It's fun to watch the progress.
Thanks 👍
Take it all in....breath deep. That air's gotta be clean and crisp right bout now. Looks so inviting Dave. Wishing you the best luck with your progress. I still don't see me shooting a short approach into that place though. I hate airlines.
Cool video. Watching the labor and tools working together to accomplish goals.
It's been a blast. I can't wait to mill those logs. Ended up with 4 huge saw longs. The top one has where all the branches came out. Those boards will have some really cool figure. They will be nice for coffee tables etc...
Great video. It showed progress from earlier videos and gave us an idea of future ideas. As far as the gravel? My first thought is you don't mess with mother nature. However, your just updating it. It sounds like you want a little gravel pond that leaches back into the surrounding area. Great job. Thanks.
Yep, the water will go where it goes now, just pausing and looking better while on it's way. That's the plan anyway.
You and Jason got a great set up! Glad he’s there to catch you if needed. Can’t wait to see more of the creek. Let’s go 🎉
I want to film a solo overnight camping video by the waterfall soon. That one will be epic!
Very easy viewing. The time flew by. I don't know if it was because it was interesting or someone could have fallen at any time. Of course it was interesting. Great job.
Thanks @pilotjim60. I cut out so much footage too. No one fell but it was funny watching the old man hike back up the hill!
Glad to hear you had such a great experience with our product and our customer service! Dan is definitely a great guy and a perfect representation of what we hope to achieve with our service. Keep chopping that brush and let us know if you ever need anything.
Indeed! I have picked out a few of your products that are on my wish list. We will be doing business again in the future. Thank you!
Looks like it works as well as a few goats!!😂
I'd say better.
🤔😂Boys and all their toys!!!
Indeed!
Love learning all this stuff now I just need to collect some acres!😂🤗🥰
Yes you do!
Beautiful land brother. I gonna enjoy watching your journey building your homestead and you habitat improvements.
Thanks Dave, So many ideas! I hope I can make it interesting.
I’m in NW Alabama in Moulton. Where are you located?
Right on the MS border near Columbus MS
Might need more exploration on Power back up for NC property…💭🤔
That place is probably better suited for a diesel backup generator. If you have the room for solar panels, this system rivals Tesla's power wall.
Makes me think of GA ice storms - and sliding down the iced sand traps on the golf course. 😂. Yeah but ice is scary:)
So cool the roofed container idea 💡
That was so much fun at our age. Kids probably couldn't get away with these days.
How cold was it? Love the content.
It got into the low teens at night and then the low to mid 20's for the high for two days. Thanks Jimmy. I had to get out of the house. I was getting cabin fever.
I love this! ❤
I love just being outdoors. So much to explore. Thanks!
Amazing!!! Great attachment on the skidsteer. Awesome drone footage! Very informative!
Thanks @SkylineBaronPilot. Have you noticed the rule of thirds in my filming? Thanks to you.
@@bamaland300 yes! Well done Sir!
We want to see the bridge building video. Good job with the narration, looking forward to more!
Me too! Since I have a portable saw mill, I can cut my own lumber from local trees. I'm also not restricted to commercially available lumber sizes. That should give me unique design opportunities. Going to be fun!
Nice video Dave. Looks like that thing cuts well. Good luck with your channel, I’m subscribed!
Thanks, you too!
SO many cool features in the South Tract! Can't wait to see what you do with it!
Thank you Mike. After 5 years, there's still parts of this property we haven't fully explore. Sharing all this with you guys is going to be a ball!
Healing turpentine? Tupelo Honey 🎉 all good stuff!
I might play with some small batch Turpentine
Exciting to see what’s coming! ❤😊
Me too!!
👍🏻
Thanks Buddy
❤
You’ve always been a great teacher❤
You're the best!
Yeah. You can fix all that and make it pretty😂
I thought you wrote the music cause it goes so well with your content… super job on that!
