Thank you for such a great book that can be used in so many ways.
LOVE THIS
What a wonderful interview!
Thank you for this! I can't wait to try it with my clients
Very cool, I loved the way he picked the rainbow, the trees, and the flowers :).
Miss you already, JP 💔We'll keep the build running!
I'd love to see you demonstrate some of these games in therapeutic action! I can imagine overcooked getting very frustrating for a client, so that introduces a lot of opportunity for collaboration and communication.
Love your videos! I'm really interested in the pretzel breathing technique you demonstrated. You mentioned something about crossing the left and right brain/mid-line. Where can I find more information about this?
Thank you for this video as I will try out these games in my practice!
Thanks for the suggestions! I’ve recently been getting into cooperative play board games doing small group work with small kids.
I’m interest in implementing play therapy with video games as well in my practice. How do you do it? 1 session play therapy and 1 session discussing the play therapy?
Take some courses. We have a course on the AutPlay website home study courses. Also check out the trainings offered by Dr. Jessica Stone.
Unravel Two is a great game I play with my young daughter. It's nice to hear you confirm this as a good therapy game, and something I can use in therapy with my own clients moving forward. Thanks for the other recommendations too.
Wonderfully Wired Brains is also great.
Amazing range!!! My fave book is “The Brain Forest” written by an Australian neurodivergent clinical Psychologist. Highly recommend to all! It’s the best book I’ve read!! Thank you for your content 🙏
I found you when looking up 'lego therapy'. I'm an expressive art therapist (combined art snd play approach) and I always enjoy developing my skills further and to get new ideas. This puzzle idea is brilliant. Thank you. Keep them coming 👐☺️❤️
I am afraid that you can not do this with an autistic child. It is very stressful
Yes you can. All autistic children are different, there is a range of neurodivergent presentation. It is important to match the activity with the child - their play preferences.
Hello! First of all, thank you for all your informative videos! I have studied play therapy under PTUK but will I be able to practice in the US as well? If not, is there any short conversion course or exam that will help me to practice in the US?
In the US you have to be a licensed mental health professional to practice play therapy. If you can meet the requirements for a licensed mental health professional then you can practice. There is not conversion course.
Would you just use this one intervention for the whole session?
Yes and no. If the child liked it and wanted to keep playing we would keep going. If they wanted to move on, we would move on.
What a great idea. Thx Doc!
Love this!
Thanks for putting this short video together. It’s super helpful. I’m a play therapist and will be attending your training in the UK later in the year. I’ll look forward to watching more of your video content before the training.
I love that he bridged his calm space with yours even though he said it divides the two spaces, it clearly connects them! This is such an amazing testament to your attunement with each other!
Thank you so much for your tips.
Omg thank you sooooo much. I just found this channel as a new therapist working with this population and I’m completely clueless 😂I really appreciate you providing this resource to us seriously
Two of my favourite therapists. Thanks for this video!
Thank you for these excellent videos that are full of tips and techniques, Dr.!
You're very welcome!
Great idea!
Thanks!
How does that help regulation?
It is a body movement intervention. It activates that whole brain which can help kids regulate their nervous system.
@@RobertJasonGrantEdD Thx. can you suggest where I can learn more about regulation.
verbal play is fun too. "big miniature" Could have been a whole new game.
I am in a play therapy course right now and am actually discussing different approaches for an assignment and have not been a fan of the old ones since they always rule out autistic individuals. I wanted to discuss AutPlay as a preferred approach to use once an RPT after following the facebook page for some time. Did you create AutPlay with one of the other/older theoretical approaches in mind and make it more inclusive? For example, did it come from Gestalt, developmental, etc. Congrats on the book! Looking forward to ordering soon.
It is mostly a diversity understanding to apply to whatever play therapy theory you are implementing - how to do that theory in an affirming way. There are some protocol suggestions which mostly come from CCPT, Filial, some Theraplay, and directive interventions influence and integration.
Thank you for the response! I will share with my class for sure.@@RobertJasonGrantEdD
Nice! Are you a play therapist?
Yes I am!
This kid is so charming. What a fun game.
Thank you for your videos. I am a student therapist and these are very clear and helpful.
Such a great topic ❤thank you
loved this
This is fantastic! Thank you!
I love the high 6. How original and fun!
Thank you for talking about this topic.
❤
Great ideas for my sessions!
❤. Thank you!
Amazing video, thank you!
The candle on the camera was a mark of genius! :)
I appreciate all of your videos! Thank you for these fun ideas!
Would you mind sharing where you got the spin and balance boards from?
Both from Amazon. Although I have seen the balance boards in the store 5 Below.
I am training in counseling right now and I am really drawn to sandtray therapy. I am really enjoying your videos. Thank you. I'm wondering about aquarium gravel which is heavy, but pretty cheap and can be purchased in different colours. Also Samurai soil - tiny black beads for use in aquatic terrariums.
I use aquarium gravel with surprising success! People either love it or avoid it
great
Would you recommend this for a parent with 2 neurodivergent children? I also have an extensive background in healthcare.
Yes, the book is focused on professionals but in AutPlay parents are considered partners.
I love a good DIY! Thanks for sharing
Great suggestions, thanks
