Have you ever gone somewhere that you just didn't belong? For me, that was Healdsburg, California. See what you think.

Tons of vacancy buildings and homes in the town,it's losing population as the folks age out and die. Younger people don't want to live in Caliente,so they move when they grow up.

My sister lives in Caliente, not much to do there at all,you have too go 150 miles to get clothes,a major doctor, and a normal food store. With home prices at $350,000 for nothing but old dumps,it's not even worth living there.

"Nipton was a wicked place, debased and corrupt. It served all comers, so long as they paid. Profligate troops, Powder Gangers, men of the Legion such as myself - the people here didn't care. It was a town of whores. For a pittance, the town agreed to lead those it had sheltered into a trap. Only when I sprang it did they realize they were caught inside it, too." - Vulpes Inculta

My stepfather was a manager for a branch of Warner Foundation Garment Co. in Malone in the late 1940s. He was sent there from Bridgeport Ct. to set up a cutting and sewing division because of a substantial difference in labor costs between Bridgeport and Malone. He was there for about six months in the late 1940s. It took two days by bus to reach, and he only came home once.

1:15, and 1:35, The Saint Helens Hotel Building, (1917-1920) Chehalis’s tallest building, originally 4 stories, but by 1920, two more stories were added, the lines below & above the 4th story, indicates the building stopped at 4 stories, when it was first built in 1917 & 1918.

It makes no sense (unless you are WOKE) to name this town after the Indians who had nothing to do with the creation of this special town. Better idea would be to build a memorial park to honor those who used to live there. Californians are fed up with name changes to suit activists desires. Removing the beautiful statue of Columbus from the Capitol is a prime example of this insanity. Now they are going after John Sutter. I am surprised they are not calling for the removal of the missions and changing the State flag to an eagle holding a snake..

Virtually nobody in Kelseyville or anywhere else could tell you anything about Andrew Kelsey. To them, the name "Kelseyville" represents a place, not a person. A place where people were born, lived, raised families, died. It seems a little unfair to strip them of their identity when they did nothing wrong to Native Americans. Frankly, I think Konocti is a cooler name, but there is local history tied to Kelseyville, and it should be respected too. A preponderance of city names around the world, not just in America, are named after persons who were often fairly nasty human beings. That doesn't mean anyone is honoring them.
