And Joseph didn't write the book of Mormon, he spoke, others wrote. Some of what he spoke is from the KJV. Practically all of the BoM was preexisting. The race claims were common of the time. The Lost Tribe claim is common to the time. The link to Jesus claim is common to then and now. On and on it goes.

You're first one was a lie. There have been doctrinal changes to the Book of Mormon. Many times Christ was changed from the Father to the Son. That's a massive change if you understand the difference between Traditional Christianity and Mormonism. Also names were changed like Benjamin to Mosiah. This was corrected after Benjamin was referred to after his death so someone decided it must actually be talking about Mosiah. 8 words were deleted from Alma 29:4. Ironically those words referred to making Gods decrees unchangeable. That change was necessary to justify the churches constant changing. 1 Nephi 20:1 had an entire phrase added to it. Where did that phrase come from? I wish the members would stop lying, it's especially hurtful to the youth.

The anti-Mormons have never been able to debunk the Book of Mormon. This is the reason they then turned their attention towards the Book of Abraham. Though however one by the name of Paul Gregersen debunked the arrogant Egyptologist opinions against Joseph Smith by presenting proper interpretation. Not a single anti-Mormon will admit to it though.

Nobody is required or expected to believe in the Book of Mormon just because. We can say that there must be more to it than simply reading the book, but beyond such generalities it is impossible to know (and foolish to speculate, IMO) precisely why one or another individual might not seem to get a certain revelatory result. There is way too much we don’t (and can’t) know about them, their intentions, and their spiritual relationship with God. Best we can do is make decisions based on what we do know that we’ve received a witness, that should matter to us a great deal more than the predictable existence of others who say they haven’t.

@@krismurphy7711 That's kind of a false dichotomy. The idea of tight vs. loose translation is a subject of significant debate even among believers. What I assume you're referencing comes from David Whitmer, who did not witness the process directly, reporting what happened fifty years after the fact. There's also the possibility of Oliver Cowdery or the typesetter making mistakes, though probably not in this case given that those are more likely to be punctuation or spelling errors. We don't know how much involvement Joseph had in the actual selection of words. Furthermore, the book of Mormon mentions the possibility it will contain errors, so the notion that it needed to be perfectly rendered is a strawman. Latter-day Saints have a fairly loose notion about how perfect scripture needs to be, given the involvement of humans, so the idea of later clarification coming in isn't that odd, nor does it prohibit the possibility there could be more than one way to accurately convey the intended meaning. He did the same thing with his own revelations by later editing some of them. This is only a problem if you assume these things are done and are necessarily done in one, and only one, perfect draft. Something that Joseph Smith clearly didn't believe.

Kris Murphy and other Antis Prove Joseph Smith is a True Prophet by the way they treat him according to Christ's WORDS. From Luke 6:22. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. 23. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. 26. Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets. If Joseph Smith was a False Prophet he wouldn't have been executed by the well after being shot in the jail and falling from the window was stood up by the well and executed by a firing squad. There's literally whole parts of the BoM that copy straight from the Bible . Literally 1/6 verses in the BoM are plagiarized from the Bible. So of course if a word is in the Bible, Joseph Smith would have seen and learned it from there.

Why does John see a revelation of an angel carrying the gospel to the world? Is Paul saying that angels cannot preach the gospel? What is the gospel that the first apostles taught? Acts chapter 2 covers it: Faith in Christ as our Savior, repentance, baptism for forgiveness of sin, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, breaking bread with and following the apostles. That’s the gospel in acts 2. The promise/covenant of baptism is for all to make. Is that what you believe?

I find your characterization of these 'antis' as 'liars, deceivers, and fallacious sophists' to be incredibly distasteful. I would ask you to please be empathetic to the suffering some of these people have gone through as they were abandoned by their friends and loved ones on what, for them, was an arduous quest to seek truth and morality. Many of these people are trained scholars in their fields, and even more are driven by a very strong moral compass. In your failure to honestly engage with questions posed by real ex-members there is a potential for good people to be mislead by your words. As such, I would like to pose to you some of the actual questions and concerns I see ex-members asking as I understand them. According to the accounts, Joseph Smith began the translation of the Book of Mormon in the winter of 1828 and began in earnest by 1829. However, there is evidence that Joseph Smith was talking about the Book of Mormon and the stories within as early as 1823. With the assumption that the book is not of divine origin, this gives him a 5 year period of time during which he could have constructed the story, which would be much easier than to have done so in 60 days. In addition, the New York judicial system found Joseph Smith guilty of being a 'disorderly person', meaning that he was guilty of accepting money for fraudulent treasure digging, with the very same stone he claims to have translated the Book of Mormon with. Lastly, when the 116 pages were stolen, Joseph Smith was unable to re-translate them. The reason he cited for this was that the thieves would change the manuscript in order to try to make him look like a fraud. In reality, the thieves would have no reason to do this. If Joseph Smith was incapable of re-translating the pages, they had no need to change them. If he was, then he could do it several times and any changes to the pages made by the thieves would become readily apparent. In addition, conducting a forgery on such a massive scale would likely have been remarkably difficult and easily possible to expose. I hope I have presented a more accurate version of the concerns ex-members have with the proposed narrative. I can't say that I myself am an expert in this field, so any of what I have said is open to mistakes and misinterpretations on my part. I also hope I have made it clear in my account that I have no desire for deceit, nor do any of the ex-members to which you referred in this video.

I applaud the creator of the video in that he does try to present the critical claims. The following is a response to the claims and the video presenter's counter arguments. "The Book of Mormon was completed in 3 months". Not only should Joseph's work on the first 116 pages be counted into this calculation, Joseph was described in his mother's journal as concocting stories of ancient inhabitants since his childhood. Joseph had been working on these stories for several years. As far as the book being dictated in 57 days, it doesn't seem miraculous by any measure as a dictation and writing out the book of Mormon would take much less than 57 days. In addition, the text is littered with superfluous phrases, verses and even chapters that wouldn't have made sense to painstakingly etch into metal plates. Another point is that a sizable portion (~15%) of the Book of Mormon is nearly identical to the KJV bible (which is an enormous problem in of itself). Joseph didn't have to prepare at all to dictate this content. "There is very little editing in the Book of Mormon". This is simply not true. There were thousands of edits from the original manuscript including crucial edits including accidentally killing off King Benjamin when he was already dead. The book was also edited to fit Joseph's evolving view of the Godhead. "Joseph used The View of the Hebrews as a guide to create the Book of Mormon". I haven't seen any critical scholar state this. What the View of the Hebrews DOES show is that basic plot line of the Book of Mormon was certainly floating around in Joseph's milieu. That plot line being an ancient middle eastern migration to America with two warring factions and the winning faction being the ancestors of native Americans. Other than the basic plot line, there isn't any critical scholars that suggest Joseph copied from that text. There is, however, proof of other occasions that Joseph took ideas created elsewhere and claimed them as his own. Take for instance his generous "borrowing" from the Adam Clarke bible commentary to create the Joseph Smith Translation of the KJV bible. "Joseph picked up after breaks in his dictation to pick up exactly where he left off". The idea that Joseph wouldn't at least get a summary of what was written down actually contradicts other witness claims that Joseph would ensure that the scribe was spelling things correctly. Why would Joseph trust that the scribe got the last couple sentences correct before the break when he didn't trust them to spell words correctly? Either Joseph completely trusted the scribes or he didn't. Apologists seem to want to have their cake and eat it too with this claim. "[Critics] don't mind being liars, they just want to tear the book down". This seems weird because the presenter hasn't actually showed any actual lies. Theorizing about how Joseph created the book isn't a lie. A lie would be saying something like, "I don't practice polygamy" when you have over 30 wives. "Joseph knew the bible extremely well". I'm not sure why the presenter is disputing this. Even faithful apologists admit this. Even from the church website, it says "An examination of the major published collections of [Joseph's] teachings yields more than 400 references to the Old Testament. ... it is noteworthy that only 6 of the 39 books in the Old Testament are not found in his words, suggesting that the Prophet was well acquainted with the entire Old Testament." "Joseph would often tell stories about ancient Americans". This is verified in Lucy Mack Smith's autobiography on page 85. It says, "During our evening conversations, Joseph would occasionally give us some of the most amusing recitals that could be imagined. He would describe the ancient inhabitants of this continent, their dress, mode of travelling, and the animals upon which they rode; their cities, their buildings, with every particular; their mode of warfare; and also their religious worship." "No book like the Book of Mormon has been created since". Sorry wrong again. James Strang translated his "Voree" plates. In any case, it doesn't really matter HOW the book came to be when there is extremely compelling evidence that the Book of Mormon is fictional. The civilization that is described doesn't even begin to line up with archaeologists have discovered. They developed different technologies, cultivated different crops, domesticated different animals, believed in different deities, and had different DNA. The devastating anachronistic elements described in the Book of Mormon precludes it from serious investigation. For example, if a journal was found that was claimed to have been written by Abe Lincoln but it mentioned automobiles, there would be no point in discussing how the journal came to be.

I'm formerly LDS. The notion that the people of South America were descended from inhabitants of the Middle East was a popular notion at the time and certainly not unique to Smith. I don't believe Smith wrote it alone - I believe a fair amount of it was plagiarized from a variety of sources including the King James Bible. I believe after the Book of Lehi was destroyed that Smith invested more effort in a general outline so that he couldn't be caught in any inconsistencies. As to the allegations regarding non-believers and morality - I would posit, Mr. Patterson, that my own morality and worldview are more coherent than your own. My ethos requires no appeals to the supernatural nor rewards of eternal reward or threats of punishment. It only requires accountability to my fellow man and the self-respect required for philosophical consistency. I hope someday you find the same self-respect that demands integrity and consistency for yourself.
