S2E45 - On this trip along the mid-coast of Western Australia, north of Perth, we have now reached the tourist destination of Kalbarri. Whilst only a small fishing town, this town packs a punch with it’s natural beauty. The beaches are spectacular and the National Park is simply stunning. Unusually, we stayed in a caravan park (that only has ensuite powered sites & cabins) but was required with...

Hi Mike, that was the best and most informative Vid I have watched on an American Truck build, thank you for that. I have a question for you, would it have been cheaper to go to the 3500 Silverado as it has the heavier axle loadings already built into it from factory. Cheers Dave.
Noice Vid.... One Day
Very informative and really appreciate the time you took in making this video keeping within one video over and return. Still trying to learn more how large dogs would handle such a trip and have not seen a video where pets can be with the owners in specific cabins. Thank you again 👌🏻
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻 unfortunately there are only 2 options for pets - place into pet cage or leave in caravan. they are not allowed to remain in vehicles or enter cabin area
noice. One Day...
Hi guys just found your vids love them I don't have any social media at all But would love to no how u make money for your trips Cheers norm
@@NormSchultz-px2sb Thanks for watching 🙏🏻 We are mostly self-funded (rental income, savings, occasional work) however we also have a crypto based investment that provides fortnightly payments. If interested in more details on anything, email greataussieodyssey@gmail.com
Thanks for the video. Did the GCR late July '24. 3rd time on this road. Did the xing west to east Southern X to Curtain Springs in 4 days which was nice and relaxed. Have done similar in two days previously but that was a long haul and would never do it again! Would recommend min 3 days to do it. Taking it easy much better. Free camped along the way. Road was completely dry - must have been a dry spell at the time. Can't remember seeing any roadworks at all. Couldn't be bothered lowering tyre pressures as there are considerable lengths of bitumen to traverse. Just left them at 40psi highway pressure all the way. Few bumpy sections but overall not too bad. Have only blown out one tyre on my 3 xings and that was likely by running over something on the road (like a piece of metal). Tyre was nicely sliced. This time no problems at all. Plenty of rubbish around at popular camp spots which is a shame. Great place to camp is at Giles Breakaway (which was nice and clean there with bins etc). Visting Warburton is an experience in itself. Overall really enjoyed my trip and would love to do it again.
@@dontrump4697 👍🏼 absolutely allow 3 days to enjoy a great part of Australia. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Thank you for this thorough and informative video. Congratulations on a magnificent vehicle build. 👍
Thanks for watching 🤙🏼 and really appreciate the feedback.
Great walk through but the star wars music became obtrusive and irritating - a little bit goes a long way ! 🙂
That’s what Sam said also. We just recently got a copyright flag for the Hot Chocolate music so will soon be removing all the music and redo. Star Wars will be out too 😉
Gday Mike Awesome truck and am looking to purchase same @ NB2 - will keep it pretty standard by comparison to yours though 😊 Just a quick query re your iPad holder one the console - would u mind sharing the brand pls? Safe travels to u both
Hey - thanks for watching. The iPad holder was just a generic one we found on e-bay that sits the stem into a drink holder. Can’t remember a particular “brand” but has worked well.
No worries - thank you I’ll do some searching
Hi guys just found your channel and watched your chev build vid it was great I enjoyed the factory tour, can I ask a question you mentioned the total weight was 5100 was that to include your ball weight and how much fuel and water was included thank you so much in advance happy travels Bill
Thanks for watching 🙏🏻 yes the Chev is total 5.1t including 280kg ball weight & 211 litres of fuel
@@greataussieodyssey thanks for that 👍👍
Very neat. It makes me miss living and working on my uncle’s ranch even with the mundane chores. It never got as hot as the temperatures you shared. A hot summer day was 85 Fahrenheit and temperatures in mid fall could be 35 Fahrenheit and mid to late winter could easily reach the mid to low teens. Twenty plus inches of snow is also typical. These extremes come from the dry air in the high desert and his house is at 7000 feet in elevation. Again, neat video.
thanks for continuing to watch 🙏🏻 the environment is beautiful but can also be harsh. it is not for everyone, but we enjoy it out there. we would love to one day experience a USA high country ranch ❤️ is definitely on the bucket list.
Very neat video. I really like to see the different ways people handle cattle. I really liked seeing Land Cruisers and Jeeps being used in their natural environment for associated work. Holly’s sense of humor and not having a fit when she realizes being filmed speaks volumes about her and the folks on Carnegie.
thanks for watching 🙏🏻 yes Holly is a great sport as are all the staff & muster crew.
We raised our baby on Carnegie moved there as manager when she was 2 weeks old ….love that place ❤❤
thanks for watching 🙏🏻 hope our few vids about life on carnegie will bring back some memories ❤️ we love carnegie so much will be heading back again this year.
Nice video. We loved shell beach 🐚
How were the corrugations on the gravel sections? Thanks for the great rundown.
thanks for watching 🙏🏻 corrugations on GCR are relatively tame if tyre pressures are lowered (about 50% reduced) & drive to conditions
Great Vid ... One Day....
hey guys - great video! looking to do this in a AWD Nissan X-trail in a couple of weeks - how were the corrugations?
Thanks for watching. The road is currently in pretty good condition and you will have no problem with your vehicle. Recommend tyre pressure dropped by 50%
Great video guys cheers
Thanks for watching.
Hey may, do you think we can do that with a 2WD Van (length 5.6m hight2.8m width 1.8m) 4cylinder engine. Thanks for your help :))
yeah will be fine - just take it easy, lower tyre pressure & drive to conditions
@@greataussieodyssey thank you! We'll start tomorrow!
@@myrtheoosting8145 let us know how you go !
What month was it that you drove across
Nice to see road open again , rubbish is a big issue at free camps. Why can't people respect others and take there crap and dump it legally
Great work guys well done on the Video & catch up soon on the road Safe travels John
we will cross paths eventually 👍🏼
great Vid....
Puppies look very happy on the beach. I’m gathering Rusty is the red one 😅? So with the day care for them, did you organise that just when you arrived at the caravan park? Any tips of finding dog sitters? Thanks, great video. Have a great week. Alexandra Tasmania
thanks for watching 🙏🏻 yes rusty is the red, axel is the black ❤️ when we will need puppy day care, upon arrival in town we ask: 1. caravan park, 2. visitors centre 3. local vet AND 4. any FB recommendations. any names that come up multiple times are usually our choice. rarely would we pre-arrange before arriving in town
A lot of the rubbish is from the locals
When did you drive the Great Central? Is it since it reopened so in the last couple of days or is it prior to it closing…. Just trying to work it out! Thanks guys
A couple of months ago, after a previous closure
@@greataussieodyssey ok thanks. We’re looking to cross it in July but know it’s only just opened now after being closed since Early March.
That was awesome guys!🙌🏾
thanks for watching 🙏🏻 … hope your all sorted & back on the road now !
@@greataussieodyssey we’re back on the road thanks! We’re in Erldunda at the moment but heading off to Uluṟu tomorrow

great ep guys - lots of good info for when we get over west!
thanks for watching Jack !
we waved to everyone no matter which direction :D
but do you get annoyed (like Mike) when get nothing back ? 😂
You sold the Chev?
🤔 the details are in the vid 😉
Love the sharkies jersey. Keep the vids coming. Cheers. Did you ever play for for the Sharks?
thanks for watching 🤙🏼 not other than juniors as was born & bred in cronulla

Rest Area is exactly that, REST Camping is overnight sleeping. Anyone caught sleeping overnight should be fined. My mate owned a gate to a day use area and the sign at the gate said no camping. He said no camping means at the gate not at the day use area. Same mentality, needs a fine or two.
there lies the issue - everyone has a different definition of REST v CAMP 🤷🏼♂️. your not right, I’m not right so the signs need to be clear and not open to interpretation. vans moved on after a couple of hours ?! so now all signage has been changed to “Day Use Only” which is at least clearer
Question the people that run the station full time are they having a holiday and whilst there away are you guys looking after the place whilst there away
thanks for watching 🙏🏻 they were away for 2 weeks holiday, there was 3 weeks where the muster crew had to camp away from homestead so those 5 weeks we are essentially alone. the other weeks we are assisting the fulltime staff. the whole time we are also responsible for the tourist trade that comes thru on way along Gun Barrel Highway.
hi Guys great video. Mike what size wheels and what offset are they, that you are running?
thanks for watching 🙏🏻 they are 37x12.5x20 Maxxis Razr AT -18 offset Fuel Sledge Rims
Thanks Mike just looking at how I want to set up my 2500hd

Have ya converted ya Starlink to 12V? Outback Comms

Assume ya have a Drone ?
yes HAD a DJI Mavic Pro until left front rotor seized and it crashed into the ocean about 2 weeks ago. have a cheap chinese built Holy Stone as a backup but it’s really only viable for straight up and photos. will be picking up a new DJI Mini 4 in a few weeks
