Wood River Kayak Camping, Hope Valley, Rhode Island
Wood River
Hope Valley, Rhode Island
October 12-13
Kayak camping on a beautiful autumn day. Reading The Wind Through The Keyhole by Stephen King. I got on the shore to take some pictures of a woodland sunflower, and I sunk waist deep in the mud! Crazy fall adventures on the Wood River.

Assawaga River (5 Mile River) Putnam/ Killingly, Connecticut September 28-29, 2024 Two of us set out on an overnight journey down the "Assawaga River." One local bather was warning us of low water levels and beaver dams downriver. We decided to carry on anyways. A little paddling and a few drags later, we found a place to settle down for the night and cook some out of state chili in a dutch ove...

I started at Taylors Landing in South Kingstown, Rhode Island. I kayaked down the Chipuxet River to Worden Pond and camped at a secret camp spot. Day 2 I paddled to the start of the Pawkatuck River and met up with my friend. We trekked down the river to our next campsite, but got stuck in a thunderstorm. We waited under a bridge for the storm to slow down. We eventually made our way to a spot t...

Deerfield River July 20, 2024 Florida to Charlemont, Massachusetts. 4 of us set out on a journey from Fife Brook Boating Access to Shunpike Rest Area. Sorry to say, we skipped Zoar Gap for safety reasons. Shout out to the couple who warned us how dangerous it was and how ill prepared we were. Also feel bad that the lady left her keys in their car. Oops! Hope you enjoy my long documentation of t...

I returned to the river on the Tuesday and paddled downriver to see the bridges and shoot some bonus footage. Enjoy! Also please take your trash with you if you decide to visit this river! A few days before the trip, I received a text from my friend with a campground, a campsite, and a date. I showed up that Saturday night and someone else was at the campsite! I got the wrong info! With no service, I walked around each campsite hoping to find my friends. I found them! After an amazing rack of ribs, I fell asleep. The Next Morning we set out on the Farmington River. Starting in Rhode Island, I drove all the way down The 95 South to a small town in Maryland to a friend's newly purchased former chicken farm. After a few days of strategic and vigorous preparation, we set out on a diagonal course trough the Amish country of Pennsylvania and the mountains to the great north. We set out on the Susquehanna River on May 31 around Midday Tea Time (12:00). We spent ...

NICE Video, Thanks.Where exactly was the putin spot?
He who picketh up shards of glass illustrates and radiates pristine class
Did you get permission from the land owner to camp there ? That was definitely NOT- 'No trace' camping. That fire ring look's like you just made it. If I were the land owner I'da been pissed off without having given permission. I know exactly where you're at, I live just a few miles away and have paddled that river many times. Just smart enough to do it in the Spring with a real water level. Simply Noob's giving plastic, Box store, butt boater's a bad name. Don't follow their example kiddies. On the other hand, I was a young Noob once and did dumb thing's too. ...Which didn't seem dumb to me at the time ! Now I've got over 216 river's paddled and over 8000 miles in a 'CANOE' seat. No crappy plastic kayak's for me, just canoe snobbery ! But I do appreciate that you do enjoy paddling.
relaxing!
🐸
nice one . Beaver dams are cool . also i guess they help to keep the water level high which makes it easier for paddling
I don't mind beaver dams. Without them, this paddle might not have been possible. We had to drag a few times, but for the most part we were able to paddle. We haven't had much rain for the past few months!
cool vid! thx
I haven't got up to this section yet, but one way to make it extended would be to put in at Sandy Point in Potowomut, go up the Potowomut River (aka Greene River) and carefully get out on the south side of the bridge area and then drag/lift the kayak back into that section. Great vid!!!
I actually did that paddle the next day! Bradford Ave to that same bridge and back. We saw so many fish jumping in that area.

Floating along from New Zealand of all places😂😂😂😂✌️✌️🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🏝🏝🌈🏝🌲⛺️⛵️🌊🍻⛱️🌏
Thank you for watching from Middle Earth!
I love the swamp maples turning red!
Maples are one of my favorite trees this time of year.
Ty for being a great guy! Picking up the trash was classy! I don’t kayak, but I love your adventurous video
You're welcome! I hope it inspires people to pick up trash. It is so easy to bring a bag for garbage along with a dog walk! Kayaking is not for everybody, but if you are a nature lover and live near water, it can be a great hobby! I hope the videos can at least give you the kayaking adventure experience!
I love that your immediate thought was to clean up all the trash. You classed the place up for the next person!
Thank you! I don't love that I have to pick up trash, but it is so rewarding seeing it trash free! When I am cleaning broken bits of glass from around the firepits, I wipe away the layer of leaves to expose the glass. It feels so nice under the leaves. It is therapeutic!
Would love to know where you camped
I don't usually reveal my secret campsite locations. I just don't want the spots getting blown up and trashed. I do believe my videos leave enough clues to find them though! Finding the spot is half of the adventure!
They look good for Hot dogs!
Thank you! Next time I make them, I'll make them true NY system style. Rope, meat sauce, wiener buns, finely chopped onions, and celery salt.
🍴🍴🍴
Most effort I have ever put into a camp dinner.
@ I'll be trying the tuna packet and crackers trick someday... 🤪
Cool trip man. Brought back some good childhood memories on the Pawkatuck
Thank you! I'm glad it brought back old memories! You must have had an awesome childhood growing up on the river!
Hell yeah, you did a great job capturing what it's really like to do it. My dad has been telling me the stories lol!
Thank you very much! It's funny how many people have done that river in the past! Even my parents went there when they first met.
Watching from New Zealand, sweet float bro🤙🤙🤙🤙🏝🏝🏝🏝🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿🇳🇿✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️
@@shanefraser7764 Heck yeah! Thank you very much! Hopefully some day I can paddle in New Zealand! I've been scoping out some lakes in the South Island.

Whoa! Here for the premiere!
@@hermytools Awesome! That is some dedication! Thank you for watching!
Look like a nice time kayak camping 🏕 man . Me & my whole entire family loves kayak camping 🏕 man . We kayak camp 🏕 37 miles over the labor day weekend holiday with some friends . It was also cool man seeing you kayaking 🛶 barefooted 👣 man cuz that's how i have to kayak 🛶 to is barefooted 👣 because there's no footwear wear that will fit my foot . Good video buddy thanks you for sharing this video buddy .
I try not to wear shoes when I am paddling. Sometimes I use water shoes if it is really rocky and I have to do lots of portaging.
Your tuna recipe looks interesting. I might give it a shot someday. Thanks for the video. It looked like a great trip.
It is a really tasty treat. I like using salmon more than tuna. Such a fun trip.
nah rain never hurt anyone lol
⚡️⚡️⚡️
Hi! I really enjoyed your video of the Chipuxet River. I loved how you captured the plants and the overall nature scenes-truly beautiful. Sleeping in a hammock must be quite an experience, it looked so peaceful! Looking forward to more of your adventures! David PT
Thank you! I have plenty more adventures to come. I couldn't recommend the hammock sleeping more! It really is the best way to sleep in the bush.
🍺
Nice trip! I've been under those train tracks at the end a dozen times and have never seen the water that high. Usually have at least two feet of space. Twice I have had a train pass over while I was under them too.
That is awesome! I have been waiting for years to be under the bridge while a train passes. There is always hope for next year!
nice one nice little basket you made . you could modify it into a fishtrap if you wanted some bait or just to have a look at what's in the water
Thank you! I really hope to make more baskets in the future if I can find the right material. Those fish traps are only legal in my area if I get a permit.
🦞🦞🦞
I like the cracker basket! The steak looked perfect! Where is that put-in?
Thank you! I really enjoyed making the basket! I've been seeking out more vines. The steak was tasty with the rosemary. The put-in is at a baseball field off a side road off route 6 in Brooklyn. It is not the same ball field near the sewage treatment plant, but before the waterfall just slightly upriver.
That looks awesome! Except for the part with the 4 person tube. Did you do those rapids?
@@trishamullin5003 No I didn't do those rapids. I would do the Zoar Gap if I had a shorter kayak, a skirt, and a helmet. I just wasn't fully equipped for that.
Try going through the Warren and West Warren section. Quite a rough ride.
Maybe I'll give it a shot some day!
🍺🍺🍺
What type of kayak do you use?
I use a Wilderness Systems Manteo. It is 13 feet long. You can find them really cheap on FB marketplace. I added sections of stretchy rope to the front and back so I could bring more gear with me on camping trips.
Kayak Kalisthenics! 😂
Nice video of the Chipuxet River! Thank you
Thank you very much! I am hoping to get a new drone so I can get footage like this again!
ssssssssss
Where did you launch and where does it end? Im in ri! Lol
@@jamessawyer8744 you can launch from Zeke's Bridge. There is a fishing access off route 3 near the bridge. Zeke's bridge is definitely an easier launch spot, but route 3 is more for the adventurous.
@@WickedEarthAdventures thanks man!
There is something nice about being in a hammock warm and dry in a rain storm!
@@mikekennedy2965 It definitely makes the sleep way more comfortable.
I am so jealous! 😜👍
dead end... maps.app.goo.gl/iv2hQCWtN9bJatDaA How'd ya'll get back to where you started??
👍❤️
I love this spot. Went a few weeks ago at dawn. Incredible. Made it to the top. Floating back is the best.
@@johnnyprovo988 It is a very relaxing paddle when going back downstream.
OMG. From the serene to the WTF moments and the comment at 4:35, then the end! sheesh! freaking cool , wild, and funny vid. What was that guy on the shore near the end doing??
@@johnnyprovo988 I'm not sure what that guy was doing at the end. It seemed like he was trying to get a generator or pump started? The sounds he was making were ridiculous. I had to document it. I heard it for about 5 minutes before we caught up to him on the shore. Hope he's okay.
What a beautiful place, and an epic adventure! Great video lad
Thank you very much! It is a unique spot for the area.
Yep, that'll do!
