Creekside Neighbours: The Golden Jackals of Mumbai
The Creekside Neighbour: ‘The Golden Jackal’ is a short film that unveils the hidden world of the golden jackal, a resilient predator thriving in the mangrove forests of the Mumbai metropolitan region. Based on the research findings of the Mumbai Jackal Project, this film showcases the collaborative efforts of the Wildlife Conservation Society-India and the Mangrove Foundation. Through striking visuals and insightful commentary, the documentary explores the golden jackal's survival in the urban wilderness-navigating threats and coexisting with humans. It also chronicles the challenges faced by researchers as they contended with tides, muck, and mosquitoes to uncover the secrets of this elusive predator. Along the way, the film offers a poignant reminder of Mumbai’s rich yet often overlooked biodiversity, emphasizing the urgent need to protect the city’s vulnerable wetlands.

Great 👍
is there any relationship between golden jackal and dog ... ? are they enemies ?
Biggest threat to this environment is the current govt wanting to build a coastal road here
Love to see tholese jackals. Pls keep on working on them and save.
Commendable work, keep it up.....
Dog is the main culprit for extinction of many creatures e.g. dodo, Hawaiian birds, Tasmanian tiger and so on. #hatedogs #hatedoglovers #saynotodogs
Beautifully made video
I'm 40 yrs old i Spent my entire life in and around MUMBAI , even i didn't know that there were jackals thriving here in outskirts and in mangroves...its wholesome to know
But unfortunately, very few people care about such unique urban wildlife. And corrupt politicians and builders want to wipe out the last few remaining green spaces around Mumbai. And mangroves are getting dumped with garbage by illegal encroachers at alarming rate. Another problem is cat and dog lovers and their terrible feeding habits which have highly increased the population of cats and dogs which are a threat to the creatures living in the wild patches.
Nice documentary. Thank you. Can you please share which mangroove areas did you find the jackals? I am guessing it is on the Navi Mumbai side, but I may be wrong.
Can someone tell which part of mumbai is this place eaxct location
They are all around Mumbai in the mangrove belt of the region
Here in Naigaon east & Vasai West Mangroves are being destroyed everyday. Land is being reclaimed and huts and bungalows are being built.
Wow I remember my dad telling me about jackels roaming in around golf club in chembur in 70 tis
Good effort
It’s amazing how such rich wildlife thrives around a city of 20 million people. Ian Malcolm was right. Life finds a way.
wonderful.....a few years ago I also saw a Jackal near Vashi Creek (Sagar Vihar) while jogging. The stray dogs were chasing him and he rush in to the mangroves.
Amazing work folks, and awesome storytelling. It makes heads turn in ustke bustle of Mumbai. Keep it up.
I myself lives in Mahul Gaav Mumbai Surrounded by Mangroves Forest and I have seen many wildlife like Golden Jackels, Asian Palm Civet, Mongoose and even birds like Golden Eagles, Flamingoes it such a vast spread Bio Diversity I really love to enjoy see them and preserve them for future generation.❤
Golden eagle in Mumbai??? That’s nearly impossible
You have mistaken a brown kite for golden eagle.
Nice !! wok !! Amazing to see videos on India wild life !!
Wonderful 👍
After watching this documentary I totally felt and I am just born in Mumbai and was completely unaware that these many species of wildlife are in and around Mumbai. Amazingly documented and thank you for sharing.
Ugh! Indian accent is just waak! 🤮
Free ranging Dogs are a bane for wildlife everywhere whether be it Wolves or highly endangered Great Indian Bustard. Still people keep feeding them!
Those ppl have dog-brain installed in their heads. 🤣
This is an outstanding bit of documentation. Bombay’s amazing. I must salute the NGO and the reserchers and Godrej for keeping some of those Mangroves free . Isn’t snake bite a danger when researching.
around 20 years back I saw jackal on hill which lying between Vikhroli and hiranandani gardens(Pawai)
Magnificent. But we won't let them live happily for long. 😢
Some thing amazing
Superr....
Excellent
Wow, it is amazing to know that jackals are thriving in the mangroves of Mumbai. I still remember the stories my grandma told me as a kid about jackals roaming around their home in Manori and Gorai. I was shocked to see a leopard in those mangroves! Thats absolutely bonkers! I hope we can save the mangroves before it’s too late.
Bro any fishing spots in manori
@@GDe-gi1kz Lots of them bro, lots of freshwater ponds around the island during the monsoons and winters.
@@DylinGomes bcoz outsiders are not allowed in your place
Wow! I am intrigued ✨
Interesting❤️
I used to stay at Bandra East, Mumbai and remember seeing a fox like animal who used to hang with stray dogs around rainy season. This was well before BKC came up where there was a big thick, mangrove jungle on the creek.
