Neil Whitehead - Urban Landscape Artist. I work in watercolour, ink and acrylic in South West England. I love the fusion of the modern age framed by listed buildings, historic shop fronts, archways and spires. Born through 'urban sketching', my fast and fluid style is all about rhythm and expression. My work is not about a photographic representation but a more original and artful take on the form and colour of our towns and cities.

Waouh ce bâtiment ocre dans cet ensemble terrifiant ! Quelle émotion Neil ! Bravo
So beautiful❤
Thank you for the great demo!
There's such freedom in your brush strokes. I love watching you lay down colors and seeing where the water takes them. Thanks for sharing! ❤
thank you for watching

Het there, bought your book today! Great stuff. Thank you for your instructions.
I love your work. How about the pen ? Brand?
A Derwent ‘Line maker’

Happy new year!

:>
WOW!
You're a huge inspiration of mine. Please never stop uploading 💪
Such beautiful work! Mad skill😊
You spilled paint on every page. How come?
🤣
Is that hot or cold press paper?
this is cold press in a Moleskine watercolour pad
Side question: what brand is that coat?
the coat is D-Robe
Wonderful, love your style 👏😸⭐
thank you
Great video Neil - I have followed you for a while but never been brave enough to give your technique a go - so this will help as it shows it in detail how you go about it. Can I ask what paints you use for the wash and what pen/size you use for your sketch please?
glad to know this has been helpful. As this was quite large i used a combination of winsor and newton watercolour tubes for the sky and larger areas and Inktense pans for most of the remaining areas
Thanks Neil. Really good video
Thanks for showing paintings you might not be happy with.
Interesante el resultado. Me gusta!!
I love these longer demos that you record. Watching you sketch and paint is so enjoyable and also relaxing.
Thank you. 🙏
Great artwork. May I ask, how does the Inktense paper react to the paints in comparison to normal 220-300g watercolour paper?
yes certainly. The paints spread so well with the inktense and give me the most satisfying graduated washes
Does the Inktense line have more bold colours than these? I'm trying to figure out the difference because they look very similar.
Yes, I would say that Inktense is more densely pigmented.
@@NeilWhiteheadArtist Thanks for the reply.
Let me ask you something. Why draw something that then won’t be checked out properly by yourself or others. I understand for example painting and exposing but a hidden sketch in a book among a bunch of similar ones next to it, that will probably go unnoticed, what’s the point of that ?
Thanks for the comment. Simply, I love to sketch. It’s also the best way to progress techniques and experiment . My larger gallery pieces often start with a sketchbook entry.
Де люди тут мистецтво бачать? Як на мене то мазня. Дочка в першому класі такі розмальовки малює
🤣
I love love love your art style. I love the way the watercolor and the black ink go together. Your art gives off this beautiful feeling. Where do you draw them and where do you get your inspiration? Your art inspires me❤
Thank you for your lovely comment. Inspiration is outside - Sketching the urban landscape in the street. :>
🥇 May I ask U what is this big flat brush ??
yes, this is a size 10 Filbert brush
Danke!
🙏
I love the look, but I'm way too anal to paint like this. ❤
😂
This is beautiful 🤩 I am attempting to learn and have had a few "successes". I tend to overwork. I am trying to be "freer". What always amazes me is when an Artist uses a sketchbook...what if you end up loving the painting but you then can't frame it. I suppose it's all about practice.🤗
Thank you for your lovely comment. My sketchbooks are a joy to build. If there’s anything I particularly love I will recreate. I work on both sides of each page so they stay bound and chart my progress (and backward steps!) 😀
Anti stress et créatif 😊
Wow! 😊
Keep trying!😂
😂
This is gorgeous 🫶
@@pixelartgirl1514 thank you
Bonjour Neil Fasciné par votre travail dans l’urbain, avez-vous imaginé appliquer votre originalité dans d’autres domaines ? Par exemple le portrait, la nature morte, les paysages… Merci
I concentrate on urban scenes currently but spent many years at art school drawing people and portraits.
Great interview and explanation. Brilliant art!
Thank you. Loved doing this.
As many ways to paint a sky as there are painters. I love your swirly technique, will have to try that. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks
Quelle puissance et en même temps quelle poésie
😀😀
Do you use Derwent Inktense exclusively?
No, but certainly the Inktense sets are super handy and remain nice and bold. If I’m working larger I’ll opt for tubes as they give you more paint to play with than a pan
@@NeilWhiteheadArtist Thank you. I notice now that this Derwent set are "watercolour" and not "Intense". How much difference do you see between the two different types?
@@davidzemens352 hi, these are a little less heavy in pigment but perform very well. Not a huge gap between both but the 24 watercolour palette here has a really good colour range and offers some nice granulation.
Love your loose style to you ever paint in the countryside? Would love to see how you handle it.
thank you.
What brushes do you use and size
I tend to use a chunky filbert brush for most my watercolour works.
