    Comments 19 Add a comment… @susanknight4841 0 seconds ago Is this a genuine Conan Doyle story? It sounds far too verbose and with a modern turn of phrase. It doesn't sound at all to be cast in Watson's narrative style. Just one of various examples ... Would Holmes talk about centimetres instead of inches? Definitely not one of Conan Doyle's best if it is genuine.

    Gloria Scott was a barque with only three masts. By the way one question - could the 'Sophy Anderson', that barque mentioned in one of Sir ACD Holmes' adventures, have been actually 'Gloria Scott'?? ♍

    • @MagicalDreamPort
      @MagicalDreamPort 15 днів тому

      "Gloria Scott is known as the three-masted barque mentioned in Sherlock Holmes' first great case, and the story details the tragic fate of the ship. However, the Sophy Anderson is briefly referenced in a different story, and there’s no direct evidence in Arthur Conan Doyle’s works linking the two ships. Still, it’s an interesting theory, and exploring possible connections between the stories is always fascinating!"

      @@MagicalDreamPort Not first great, but FIRST EVER case, that made our friend think of making his hobby a source of money for living. He solves the mystery still not as a consulting detective, but as a student on long vacation between two terms (or so).

      @@WojciechWachniewski-st1zm "Thank you for the clarification! You're absolutely right-this was indeed Holmes' first-ever case during his student days, which set the foundation for his future as a consulting detective. It's fascinating how this particular case inspired him to turn his passion for solving mysteries into a profession. Doyle's attention to such details really adds depth to Holmes' character!"

      @MagicalDreamPort Actually it was Mr Trevor the Elder, who suggested him this. By the way Holmes and Watson made my English reasonably good as for a foreigner. Excellent language and excellent literature!! 🇬🇧 😊👍👍♍🇵🇱

It's incredible how these stories can improve language skills while also offering such compelling mysteries. I'm so glad to hear they've helped you with your English-Conan Doyle's works are indeed a masterpiece of language and storytelling!
