like the comment about qualified vs licensed,
Thanks! An attorney helped me out with that one, and has been invaluable over the years
Such great info for other inspectors to know. My mentor taught me this years ago and I've been stressing it to my inspectors when I train them. I always tell them if we can find a way to put in the report to have the whole (roof, windows, electrical, foundation, etc) looked at it's a benefit for us and the client. Windows is a great example, especially when there's a seal issue. Our report will read that broken seals may not always be visible at every window, depending on temperatures and time of day. Recommend having a qualified contractor evaluate all windows.
Thank you! I am glad to hear you are doing that as well. It really does protect our clients and us, and doesn't come off as alarmist if it is written well

Thank you!!!
@ do you have videos of how to market to real estate agents in their offices?
@@MrGraphy5 Yes - it is in our video library as well. Its one of our most popular podcast episodes
@ thank you thank you I’ll be urs to watch that video
AI won't crawl the entire crawlspace so I think us home inspectors should be safe 😂
LOL, agreed! I think we brought that out in the podcast too. BUT, it will affect our industry adversely if we don't embrace it
I generally agree, but if we lose the public's trust, then we usher in peopkle who will opt for "virtual inspections" which are already a thing. $99 and a photographer will send 500 photos to a report mill using in-house report-writing "home inspectors" and AI. The key is for us to maintain ethics and the public's trust. Realtors need to hear that too. They're next on the chopping block. Ask a travel agent about that...
@@prestonkincaid I agree. We own it as an industry or we will lose our industry all together
What are the legal ramifications in licensed states? If the software has the name Home Inspection, do the software guys have to make sure it meets the state’s requirements? Will the cheap guys who do the AI Home Inspection be on the hook for failing to meet SOP requirements or is the AI Software responsible? Is the agent who recommends an AI Home Inspection on the hook as well? I think these are questions that may slow its establishment in licensed states but anything is impossible. Great episode
@@handyvetinspections5497 Thanks! To be honest.... we aren't attorneys, and this is unknown territory that we are entering. So we don't know. I imagine it will take them many years to figure out all that legal stuff for it - but great questions!
Yeah saving this one
Awesome video. Great ideas. How would i get ahold Ian. Maybe for a video chat. I have a ton of questions
Thanks! Ian doesn't do any one on one coaching, but I can let him know if you have any questions. What kind of questions would you like to ask him?
@inspectortoolbelt ok i understand. Almost done the Internachi courses and have been binge listening to alot of the podcast episodes and wanted to pick his brain
told you i would get to on my lunch break
Wow this podcast may have changed my whole perspective on the path forward. Focus on commercial buildings. Very interesting
It is a big and growing industry
I'm listening to the part being called a "doo doo head" and what not. Even in the military my response is always " I've been called worse by better"
LOL
Holy crap. As a serving member of the Canadian military and taking the Internachi courses this episode is great
Thanks!
I love the real talk you have on the show. Not trying to sell anything or anything like that. Telling real stories. Awesome
Thanks!
Another banger episode
Thanks!
I'm currently taking the Internachi courses and going to start my own company. These are all great points. Thanks
Awesome! All the best to you in taking the courses and starting your business!
@inspectortoolbelt would you like to do an episode with an inspector in training ? Maybe for all the up and coming / younger inspectors?
I volunteer 😊

Thanks! It's important
Being military i know all about needing to take time for family.
Great one, Ian!

Another great show! Thanks again, fellas!

you need a buyers market with homes that are priced REAL!......as a new inspector 250 sounds good when you cant compete with the "good ole boy club" MASTER inspectors.....or i could go back into construction DEMO for 20 bucs an hour...back broke, pissed off, and working with murders and bank robbers....lol....250 SOUNDS SUPER!!!!!! 3 a day with thermal, 4point and wind mit in the mix....yeh thats the ticket!
Love this information I need a reference guide if you have it!
We don't - but CCPIA training is where you want to get trained to do that and get those resources. Its a pretty amazing course
The Pareto distribution is expected when you have positive feedback loops. Do a good job for your clients, they refer you to your peers. More work give you more opportunities to enhance your reputation. But, it can be a real challenge to get that feedback loop started.
Good point :)
Thanks y’all!!
You bet!
What do you guys consider the "top inspectors"?
the 20% of inspectors/inspection companies doing 80% of the inspections. So the mathematical top 20%. Not talking about skill etc
Great info and ideas. Thanks 😃
You bet!
Totally agree: we are professional consultants. Great episode.
Thanks!
Make no mistake. Realtors have become VERY crafty at removing us from the equation. That's a new dynamic.
Yep! Agreed. But now the agents re the ones being removed from the equation. Albeit a slow start, their downfall hs started
Agreed. The Home Inspection transaction is too short to see Realtor for their true selves or antics. On longer transactions, renovation loans, where they are the actual client or giving their buyers poor advice, the view is horrifying. They also seem to have the buyers under a spell. One of the biggest problems is shopping. They have a knack for introducing the their clients to lower qualified contractors. They also use lower qualified contractors on their own homes and introduce material defects. They have successfully steered potential buyers away from FHA, VA loans. What little inventory they have has gone to cash investors to protect their pay check. The wolf (the Realtor) is basically guarding the hen house. The wolf, "I promise, I will not eat the chicken. I;m here to protect it."
Currently taking my classes online! There’s more piece of advice you could give to someone breaking into the industry. What would it be?
Listen to every one of our podcast episodes from beginning to end - seriously
good stuff!
Thank you!
I dont think the real estate market is going anywhere anytime soon. The insurance premiums are through the roof right now, HOA fee's are through the roof, taxes are slightly up and there are new fees associated with the buyer agent side comission, so with all these factors even the .5 cut in interest rate is really barely enticing people to sell/buy/
I agree and disagree. I think it has to do more with inventory than anything else. The rate cuts were also for the broader economy, and not just real estate. But the real estate marketing is moving in the right direction though. Getting a little better all the time
Thanks fellas!
Thank YOU
I have a question about setting up Google AdWords for a home Inspector, is there an email address I can send message to?
Howdy! I would reach out to Jason directly. I believe he gives his email address in this podcast, but you can also reach out to him on Facebook Messenger as well
THIS. You are spot on. To be honest, this is what I've been trying to say, and didn't make the connection to articulate it in this way. I am the highest priced inspector in my economically depressed area, and my business is thriving. I charge the most, and therefore feel the need to always deliver on it. That means I set the bar high and I work hard to deliver the very best inspection experience and report. My Google reviews reflect what I deliver, and clients actually mention that my prices are high but worth every penny. Which then only helps to drive more business. FEAR is what keeps inspectors at the bottom or in the middle. Be courageous. Be the highest priced, and also, be the very best. Your business will thank you. The biggest mistake inspectors make is assuming clients want an "affordable" inspector. They don't. They want the very best. They WILL use pricing as a way to judge that.
Preston - exactly and well said. The bottom and the middle of that spectrum keep us fighting for scraps, while the high end of the spectrum gives us everything we are looking for - better pay, more work, better value for our clients, and more
Samsung Refrigerator??
@bobmurphy9294 Which part are you referring to?
Thanks again, sir!
Thanks for listening!
Yup! Many inspectors fight for the worst clients by lowering their prices.
Exactly
Another great show! Thank you so much!
I’m doing my online courses now. Any tips for getting started after I get my license?
The best tip - listen to every episode of our podcast from the beginning :D. We literally cover from beginning to end
Great show! Thank you
Great episode!!
Great and Informative video! I have two questions, it is possible to get into commercial inspection without becoming a home inspector first? (Florida). 2. Is Florida a good state to be in this area? How viable is to have at least 1-2 inspections a week when you are starting out? Thank you for your time and knowledge. Sorry to bother you.
Howdy! Thanks for listening! Please see below: 1) Yes... but it is a much easier transition if you go from home inspections to commercial inspections 2) Yes, Florida is a great State for commercial inspections. 1-2 commercial inspections a week? That really depends on your marketing skills and efforts. Keep in mind too that sometimes a commercial inspection can take a couple of weeks. So don't worry about the number of inspections you do

Another great show! Thanks guys!
Thanks!
thank you for bringing attention to the topic, more agents and homebuyers need to understand this. Something else that was not mentioned is the liability and standard that inspectors are held to. Inspectors are being paid pennies in comparison to the value of the home. Inspectors will find issues in need of repair costing thousands and tens of thousands of dollars while clients tire kick a $350 inspection. RE agents that ask for discouts are criminals but we wont get into that.
Thanks for your comments! Something does need to change - but we are the ones who need to do it
