If you learned something from our vide...

    Tip: if you’re a beginner or don’t know how to tie this knot (me about a month ago) start tying with braid. It is much easier than Fluro or mono. So you can get used to tying the knot then it will be easier with fluoro and mono

    How does it hold up? Better than the square knot?

    • @HTKnots
      @HTKnots 5 днів тому

      It is better than the square knot under tension, there is a double sheet bend (beckets bend) version that you could also try which is simple to do, just by wrapping around both lines one more time before tightening!

    Thanks. FYI, I was looking for this knot on "Animated Knots" and found… The Midshipman’s Hitch Knot described here is better than the “Taut Line” version described below because it creates the useful intermediate Awning Hitch; this takes the strain while tying the final Half Hitch and the completed hitch is more secure.

    And yes, it's the same shape as a bowline, but a bowline is a knot at the end of one rope. A sheet bend is a bend connecting two ropes. A bend connects lines together. A knot is tied in 1 line.

  • @geoffk7072
    @geoffk7072 16 днів тому

    The bend should be made with the larger diameter rope. It will hold much better that way. The bigger the difference between the ropes, the more round turns you should use with the smaller diameter rope.

    I personally like the figure 8 knot more. I think it has more uses. There are definite benefits to the bowline though

  • @nacholibre1962
    @nacholibre1962 16 днів тому

    Bullshit. This isn’t the most useful knot at all. In fact if not tied properly, it is one of the list dangerous, because thus used in mountaineering. The figure eight knot is superior in construction and strength.

    Sheet bend is literally just a bowline. Just remember which one is supposed to be the fat rope and which is supposed to be the thin rope.

  • @JustinShaedo
    @JustinShaedo 17 днів тому

    Well made video. There are a few tests showing if you move the leading end, so it goes to the outside of the loop, it creates a stronger bowline.

    • @tylercrowley2559
      @tylercrowley2559 16 днів тому

      To go outside do you take the end and go through the “bottom” of the loop after going round the main line?
