Yes, the rules were changed recently so any difficulty level is allowed. Normal difficulty on 200cc avoids most random bumps at the start of tracks

I’ve been practicing the 48 DLC category extensively for some time now and noticed exactly the same thing! When you get hit by lightning and blue shells is incredibly consistent across all tracks. It’s kind of crazy how consistently the last 2 places lag behind at a distance such that I get hit by lightning and shells in the same corners of the track. Oh, and don’t we all just *adore* the lightning/shell combo that removes your Horn before Bluey stops by, crushing your hopes of dodging Mr. Boo using your coin.

Yes, it was a big hobby of mine before I left for college. I still like playing as much as I can, but I'm studying chemistry now :)

I've done lots of 96 tracks runs already (and in fact hold the WRs for both items and no items in 200cc). I'll return to it at some point, but probably not for a while

No item time attack, basically time trials without using mushrooms

There are separate categories for items vs no items. There is more luck with items than without, but there's a lot of skill required to have a fast time regardless

How long have you been playing for? There's a lot of small things I do that add up to a lot of time over the course of the full run.

I've been playing Mario Kart for years. Speedruns, however, have only been playing for a few months... Currently my PB is 2:56.55.xx. Under 2:56 is definitely possible, but I don't understand why I'm still wasting so much time on you. I drive the same lines as you on (almost) all routes, use the same shortcuts (Big Blue, Mute City for example) I'm probably still too inconsistent and easily make big mistakes that cost a lot of time... Just in the 200cc no item Cup speedruns I'm almost exactly 10 seconds behind you in practically every single cup...@@pianist1562

Not an expert, but that time loss seems like it could just be from your driving lines not being fully optimized

Ah you started talking about it around PPS.. With Easy/Normal COM, you have a more consistent start and usually don't get immediately bumped like you often do with Hard COM. The Easy/Normal COM's mid-race bumps also feel less aggressive compared to Hard COM bumps, but that might only be anecdotal. CPUs also feel more congested and grouped with Hard, and more spread out with Easy. Normal COM is probably the best to use from what I've seen since the rule change

Holding a trigger button at the start of the run forces the Animal Crossing season (ZL = autumn). I still always forget if I don't name my first split like that :P

If you’ve actively got a mini turbo, hopping over glider cannon ramps save about .1 seconds over tricking because of how the game treats speed acceleration on the ramps. While in MT you’re already at max speed so there’s no reason to trick off it, in fact tricking causes the game to set you at a slower speed which it will then ramp back up to full.

@@velociraptorplanet Correct, although to clarify, it's not just when you have an mt boost. Any time you hop onto the edge of a cannon glider it shoots you up to cannon speed more quickly, period. Nothing else needed. Some cannons (like DKS and RR Wii) don't let you do that for some reason, but it's generally faster.

Wave 6 is very hard, don't feel bad about it :P DKM and PPC especially are really volatile and easy to lose big chunks of time on

Nino (a very good player) got 2h52m on his first run, so somewhere around there. That's pretty much my best guess since I haven't run 48 tracks dlc yet
