My Dying Bride - The Burning Coast Of Regnum Italicum
= Lyrics =
My black, feathered breast
Unto comes o'er mast & sail
Look upon a broken site
Torn apart through wind & hail
Lead me to the chaos of water
As I reveal myself to you
A fall from God is a blessing unknown
It's rivers deep from which I drew
Where is the burning city?
Great Naples, it's kings alone
A hunger roared and reared
A fool suffers in Rome
Mon enfant, prends patience,
Bientot la nuit tombera.
Dors, si tu peux,
Et reve de pays merveilleux.

Lyrics: Father, for all of your invention, What have you to show? The seas you see around you, Are controlled by those below. You have been merely an instrument, Strings plucked by lesser hands, It's time to ply your trade, father, And execute your plan, We should not decay in a prison of your design, I will rise and take the life that's mine! Our bodies grow weak, Our kingdoms fall, But the de...

Creation has no knowledge to the depths of mysteries created and yet to be. ONLY the creator JESUS CHRIST knows and can reveal anything and everything to you if your heart and faith are with HIM. - Kid (Boyle when he was young) must go to the loft with his grandaddy - Grandaddy watches his kid fuck a mermaid for his own sexual gratification - Grandaddy is now dead. Kid went back to the loft to check on the mermaid, but it was actually a fake mermaid, in reality it was a PT Barnum-like chimera, a monkey with his legs sewn together. - Guy in the audience (Johnny), Boyle tells his joke to, is in a wheelchair, and Boyle is reminded of his situation with grandaddy because both the "mermaid" and Johnny can't use their legs. Hope this helps for those who "don't get it" (I was one of them before I did a little research and reading)

(Best I've found) JOKE EXPLANATION: Historically, hobbyist taxidermists would con people into thinking they had a type of mythical creature when in fact it was a collection of animals sewn together. I think this joke specifically references the 'Figian Mermaid' which actually turned out to be a monkey with its legs sewn together, amongst other things. Before knowing this, I just found it hilarious as I assumed the young boy's memory was fuzzy and inaccurate due to the trauma of the situation, plus the coercion by his grandad, and when he looked in the chest years later it was actually just a monkey with its legs sewn together, drawing on the absurdity of realisation. Both are funny in my opinion but the Figian Mermaid explanation I think is most accurate.

The slow look from flint sky to jaguar paw as the point of his earlier comments about living with fear comes full circle with the elder telling the story. The idea that the man asked for these gifts out of fear, and that fear drove him to control and take until there was nothing left…is the exact same illusion/lie so many of us fall into today. The idea that we will never truly be safe/secure, happy, strong enough, just enough in general until we own more/claim dominion over all around us. Hence the raiding civilization that comes the next day being the example of what living in fear does to people. Driving them to take more than what they need, to kill, enslave, steal and generally act without a moral compass. All out of fear. Their entire civilization was based off fear, with the ruling caste using it to keep control, out of fear of losing their riches/power. And is it any different in todays modern world? I think not.
